Atelier by FANG

Atelier by FANG Collection: a collaboration The ancient art of origami has long been a signature feature at Shanghaibased design house Atelier by FANG. This is echoed in the folded fabrics, graphic shapes and elegant angles of designer Fang Yang’s exquisite designs. Translating the beauty of her gowns into Tai Ping’s artisanal floor coverings was the challenge from which this beautiful collaboration grew. As one of Asia’s most interesting fashion talents – known for fresh femininity on elegant silhouettes – Yang is a Chinese champion of timeless, sustainable fashion. Connecting on the origami theme, here Tai Ping’s mastery with architectural effects like sculpting, carving, high and low pile echoes Yang’s multidimensional designs. Careful hand tufting techniques employed in the carpets show off a couture attitude in luxurious wools, silks and lurex. In pushing the creative boundaries and new ideas, Tai Ping and Fang Yang pushed comfort zones. The collection is sophisticated from first look, with refined material mixes and Tai Ping’s master crafting. Twisting patterns, shades and depth of the Gown rugs makes it the most dynamic of the collections. The Tutu range focused folded fan designs on oval shaped rugs are subtle in colour combinations, whilst mesmerising triangular and graphic square patterns define the Origami Couture styles. The Embroidery design focuses on a linear pattern, and the Appliqué line’s floral hexagonal origami patterned border gives a modern, feminine flavour. “Their support of skill transfer, traditional handmade crafts and workshops all over the world is inspiring - I love this about the brand. I’m delighted to see the outcome,” says Yang. When the designer first started her brand in Paris in 2013, she was first inspired by the contemporary art scene. The ESMOD alumni soon created her own powerful, feminine, East-West aesthetic with contemporary, arty touches. The label’s unexpected plays with volume, architecture and graphic lines have earned her a following of the faithful across China, Europe, America and most recently, the Middle East. Fresh from showing at Paris couture week at the Place Vendome, the visionary collaboration with Tai Ping comes as the creative hits a major milestone.
