Pass-tufted – Brio Brio, a Tai Ping pass-tufted collection, is a custom-made offering of textures developed from a choice of stocked yarns from our Presto Program, and from custom colours. It is designed to help reduce production time for customers who require a fast turnaround and an accessible product without compromise on material and quality.
The Presto Program Presto is Tai Ping’s quick-ship program. Designed to dramatically shorten leadtime, the program allows for a two- to ten-week production time for carpet, depending on square meterage and pattern. Presto is developed in two qualities: New Zealand Wool and Dull Silk, providing a total of 80 colours to choose from.
Made to measure All Brio pass-tufted carpets are created to custom dimensions. Colours can either be chosen from the Presto Pom Box for rapid production or customised from the Tai Ping Tent Pom Box, an extensive and sophisticated palette of 480 standard colours. Textures & Yarns As in all Tai Ping’s custom carpets, texture and yarn choice are paramount in determining the character and aesthetic of the final product. Brio passtufted carpet can be produced in cut pile or loop, cut-and-loop, and shag pile, and is available in the same yarns as Tai Ping’s finest hand-tufted collections. 100% New Zealand Wool and Dull Silk are the most common choices for Brio pass-tufted carpets, though they can also be made from more luxurious yarns like Felted Wool, or 50Wool/50Silk combination, and even in the most innovative yarns developed by Tai Ping: Steele, Field and Glosilk.
Finishing – Over-tufting & Carving A Brio pass-tufted carpet can be transformed into a completely unique piece with the addition of handfinishing. Once a carpet has been tufted on the pass machine, it is taken to the hand-tufting workshop where Tai Ping’s skilled artisans can add custom pattern and texture by hand. There are two main techniques: overtufting and handcarving. In the first, a second pattern is hand-tufted on top of the pass-tufted ground; in the second, the pile is cut with scissors or a razor to create a one-of-a–kind sculpted surface. Project Types & Lead Times The Brio Collection is appropriate for use in: — Residences — Boutique hotels — Corporate headquarters — Fine dining establishments — High-end retail outlets — Private jets and yachts The Brio pass-tufted collection has the prestigious look and feel of hand-made carpet and is competitive within tight budgets and deliverable in comparatively short lead times.

Carpet Maintenance Tips
Tai Ping uses the finest natural fibres in the textile industry: New Zealand wools and Chinese silks. However, certain variations of natural yarns may present themselves, none of which are considered manufacturing defects. A technical bulletin encompassing all natural occurrences can be found at the Carpet and Rug Institute website at www.carpet-rug.org
Sprouting Occasionally, tufts will dislodge from the backing of the carpet. These loose ends should simply be trimmed flush with the surrounding surface pile with sharp scissors. Excessive sprouting is often caused by wheels of luggage carts, castors, inadequate or improper use of vacuums, and is not considered a manufacturing defect.
Colour Matching Colour plays an important role in bringing carpet designs to life and capturing the inspiration behind them. When developing custom colours for proposals, Tai Ping makes every effort to match them in the final production dyeing. We use the best dyes and the finest natural fibres available, utilising state of the art equipment during the process. While an exact match is impossible, we will always pursue the best possible match. Being mindful of the intended use and limitations of natural fibres when dyeing light pastel colours is necessary in the sample stage. Raw wool and silk have a natural yellow cast to them, unlike the stark white present in manmade fibres, making them prone to yellowing and limiting the brightness that can be achieved.
Shading (Watermarking, Pooling, Pile Reversal) Shading is caused by the different effects of light playing off the sides of fibres versus their cut ends. Shading is a normal phenomenon for any cut pile carpet made from any type of yarn. It does not indicate wear, fault in manufacturing, flaw in materials or a combination.
Fluffing or Shedding New carpets may fluff or shed short fibres. This occurrence is not considered a manufacturing defect but a natural occurrence in new wool and silk carpets. Frequent vacuuming, up to twice per week, is suggested up to six months after installation. 58
Fading Natural oxidation of dyes will occur, especially when a carpet is exposed to sunlight. This is not considered a defect in manufacturing or materials. Fuzzing Fuzzing is caused by wheels of luggage carts, castors and inadequate or improper use of vacuums. Use of a vacuum with a beater bar or harsh brushes can also cause fuzzing on a wool loop pile carpet.
Preventive Measures 1. Use walk off mats to keep dirt off carpets, and clean the mats more frequently than the carpet. 2. Replace air filters regularly according to manufacturer’s guidelines and inspect air ducts often for build-up of contaminants. Vacuuming Carpet must be vacuumed routinely. 1. Light to moderate traffic areas: vacuum as needed, but at least every 2 to 3 days. 2. Heavy-traffic and pet areas: vacuum daily. Routine vacuuming is the most important part of any maintenance program.
Maintenance Cleaning Restorative measures must be taken at regular intervals, at least every 12 to 18 months or more frequently for heavy use areas, by a professional carpet cleaning company. For more tips about cleaning methods and troubleshooting, see: www.taipingyacht.com/carpet-care
Treatment of Spots and Spills 1. Check for spots daily and treat immediately. 2. Act Quickly! The longer the delay, higher the probability for a permanent stain. 3. Blot liquids with a dry, white, absorbent cloth or plain white paper. Do not scrub the area. Continue to blot until the area is essentially dry. 4. Gently scrape up semi-solids with rounded spoon and vacuum. Do not add moisture. 5. Remove spots and stains with water first. The spill may be simply removed with just water. 6. When using stain removal cleaners, follow the manufacturer’s recommendations for use, including proper ventilation.
