Welcome What is an expedition cruise with Hurtigruten? It’s so many things rolled together into one epic adventure. Here are just a few aspects that help make these cruises so special. An expedition cruise with us ventures to places many have only ever dreamed about. You’ll gaze in awe at the most spectacular natural landscapes on our planet, delight in the many charms of the region’s culture, and witness rare and exotic wildlife. Your expedition ship will take you beyond the usual highlights and iconic cities, going further to remote communities and hidden vistas few get to see. The focus is on active exploration, bringing you ashore to really discover each destination. But always doing so with sustainability at the core. A handpicked Expedition Team of experts will be with you every step of the way, accompanying you on landings and organising activities. Listen to their fascinating lectures in the ship’s Science Center and maybe even engage in a Citizen Science project of your own. Your expedition ship enjoys an informal atmosphere and is your comfortable haven at sea, home to exquisite restaurants that serve truly delicious meals. An expedition cruise with Hurtigruten is all these things and more. It is the culmination of more than 125 years of our exploration history, harnessed into incredible expeditions and momentous experiences that stay with you forever. Are you ready to start your adventure? 2

An adventure can be summed up into two things: journeying somewhere exciting and being adaptable to whatever comes our way. Both apply on your expedition cruise with us.
Expect the unexpected Embarking on an expedition, you’ll be travelling to some of the most remote and pristine places on the planet. These are areas where nature reigns supreme and where wildlife live free. Itineraries on our expedition cruises are not completely set in stone. This gives us the flexibility of responding to challenging elements and to grasp new opportunities for exploration as they arise. The option to divert from our course is an essential and exciting aspect of expedition cruises. Certain days on several of our itineraries have multiple possible sites we can visit. You can trust the ship’s Captain and Expedition Team to pick the best option, based on the conditions on the day.

Taking sustainability seriously Exploring this blue planet of ours for more than a century has taught us the importance of being green.
Hurtigruten has been sailing to polar regions for more than 125 years. Over decades, our Captains, Expedition Teams and returning guests have witnessed the impact of climate change on these vulnerable areas with their own eyes. We want the Arctic, Antarctica, and everywhere in between to remain places of pristine nature, pure water and clean air.
That’s why we’ve committed to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, putting them at the heart of who we are and what we do. They are our guiding principles, taking us steps ahead of current regulations to offer you greener and more sustainable expedition cruises on and for the planet.

A thirst for knowledge Why does an expedition cruise with Hurtigruten have such a focus on experiential learning? Meet Tudor Morgan, our Director of Expedition Operations, for the answer. “We know that our guests aren’t typical tourists. They’re modern-day explorers who want authentic experiences and are willing to journey to remote places to get them. Being able to truly connect with nature and understand the destination is key for them. We know that because we’re exactly the same. We’ve therefore developed a full lecture and science programme to satisfy their hunger for knowledge”.

Your haven to the horizon
SCIENCE CENTER, MS ROALD AMUNDSEN © AGURTXANE CONCELLON
Your expedition ship is your home away from home; casual, comfortable, and complete with everything you need for your adventure and more. Sailing in style If you picture an expedition as being on a rusty old frigate with faded décor, prepare to have your expectations blown away. Top to bottom, bow to stern, you’ll find that your ship is full of fresh modern interiors inspired by simple Scandinavian chic, with extra homely touches here and there. We’ve made every effort to use natural materials like pinewood, slate and leather, imbuing your onboard environment with an earthy, elemental feel reminiscent of the places you’ll be exploring. Each night, you’ll actually look forward to sleeping soundly in your cabin, happily snuggled between a warm duvet and soft cotton linen.
Laidback vibes From the get-go, you’ll see that life on the ship is relaxed and the atmosphere calm and informal. The only dress code is that there isn’t one and you won’t see a butler or black-tie dinner in sight. We want you to be thinking about all the exciting places you’ll be discovering with us, not worrying about what you’ll wear at dinner! Feel free to get to know the Expedition Team and chat to the friendly crew. They’ll have many stories to share about previous expeditions and their personal adventures. Together, we’ll travel to the most remote coasts in the world and become one big family of explorers. We wouldn’t have it any other way.

Gaze at gorgeous views Each public area of the ship, be it the restaurants, outdoor gym, lounge, bar or even sauna, has been designed with your viewing pleasure in mind. There are wide windows, sometimes floor to ceiling, that blur the line between outside and in. The open-plan setting bathes public areas in natural light and gives you an ever-changing gallery of passing scenery to lose yourself in. You’ll enjoy spending time on the outdoor observation decks too, where Expedition Teams can sometimes be found pointing out sites of interest in the sur-

rounding landscape or identifying species of seabird currently flying alongside the ship. Social hubs What is an adventure without companions to share it with? As you set foot on exotic shores together, you’ll naturally grow closer with your fellow explorers. You’ll probably find that, just like you, they also share a love of nature, wildlife and community. Enjoy swapping stories in the various seating areas dotted around the ship which usually have great views so that you don’t miss a thing. You can also
hang out in the Science Centre, deciding which of the many Citizen Science projects you can do together. Afterwards, pull up a few cosy armchairs in the Explorer Lounge and Bar, order some fine wine, and toast to new experiences and new friendships.

Your ship comes equipped with a full suite of facilities for you to maintain an active lifestyle balanced by relaxation therapies for both body and mind.
Healthy hearts Some of our expedition ships has an indoor gym. Aside from rowing machines, fitness bikes, and free weights, some ships also feature advanced SKILLMILL™ equipment which will help you to build strength and to tone up. If you’re on one of our hybrid ships and the weather allows for it, you can also enjoy the fresh sea air while working up a sweat in the outdoor gym or while doing lengths in the heated infinity pool. Watching the waves while
circuiting the 150-metre outdoor running track might even add an extra spring to your step! For calmer forms of exercise, our warm-water voyages organise daily yoga classes run by professional instructors, great for keeping your body supple and energised. Relax and rejuvenate After a work-out in the gym or a long day of activities off the ship, you’ll definitely want to spend some time recharging.
Blow off some steam in the sauna with panoramic views or soak away any stresses in the outdoor hot tubs. A meditation session will take you on an inner journey to clear out the mental cobwebs, leaving you feeling at peace and refreshed. And to really treat yourself, there’s the Wellness Center on our hybrid ships. Skilful therapists offer a variety of tension-releasing treatments that cleanse the skin and the soul. Infuse yourself with an aromatherapeutic scrub, feel

Loving Local Food Prepare your tastebuds for mouthwatering meals on board, inspired by the region’s flavours and crafted from mostly locally sourced ingredients.
Low food miles, high quality As we explore the coasts of countries across the world, each culture has its specialty produce that you’ll be excited to savour firsthand: Chilean bass, Mexican limes, Norwegian cloudberries, British clotted cream, French wine. Sourcing our food locally supports local businesses, creates positive ripple effects in the communities we visit, and promotes more sustainable and seasonal eating. Good food, good karma. Dishes of the destinations Your exploration isn’t just one of sights and sounds but tastes too. Our chefs might pick a selection of unique local herbs and spices to add to their dishes, infusing them with an extra twist. Or perhaps they’ll take inspiration from the area’s traditional cooking techniques to prepare your main course. To round off the meal, locally grown fruit could make an appearance as part of your yummy dessert.

Each expedition also immerses you further in the local cuisine with a
C739LDN_7682LDN_438923__HRG_288_EUROPE.indb 15
Signature Seafood Evening as well as tastings that showcase the region’s delicacies. Imagine tucking into creamy clam chowder off the coast of Cape Cod, succulent king crab in Arctic Norway, wine tasting in Seattle, or slices of succulent Argentinian steak on your way to Antarctica. All these gastronomic gestures add authentic tastes to your every bite, completing the cultural and culinary experience. Sophisticated plant-based menus We believe that the future of food is a plant-based one. Rather than simply offer generic options on the menu, we’ve fully embraced full menus of gorgeous ‘green’ food. It’s not only our commitment to sustainability that drives our desire to celebrate plant-based food. Every dish looks and tastes so good! If you’ve already stepped into this world, you’ll be in for a treat on board. If you’ve yet to be converted, our menus will inspire you to try. This is healthier eating, for you and potentially for the planet too.
A delicious menu might look like this: • Three-bean soup with garlic fried kale • Beet Bourguignon with pearl barley, sautéed carrots, red onion, and pumpkin seeds • Grilled watermelon with vegan ice cream, black pepper, and mint A focus on food The Expedition Team will give lectures and talks that give you the stories behind the food we serve on board. These could be presentations that delve into the historic and cultural connection of delicacies of the region. Or they might focus on how a science-based approach can help agriculture or fishing become more sustainable. Your expedition may also feature optional excursions to nearby farms, fisheries, or vineyards. Each promises a profound look at the importance these local industries have had on the surrounding communities.

When only the experts will do
Join an expedition cruise in Norway from Dover and sail into the Arctic Circle as far up as the Lofoten Islands, Tromsø, North Cape or even Svalbard and back. These expeditions are the perfect choice to uncover gems of the stunning Norwegian coast, exclusively handpicked by those who know it best.
More to explore Drawing on our decades of sailing the coast every day for more than 125 years, we’ve created new itineraries that include some of our personal favourite places along the coast, taking you to special spots few know about, let alone visit. Our ships will dock for half a day or a full day, giving you several hours to really experience each place. Most days will feature an included excursion and you’ll have a wide range of optional excursions to choose from as well.
All the wonders of the coast Our expedition cruises bring you to explore some of Norway’s best fjords, be it the likes of Geirangerfjord, Sognefjord, or Hjørundfjord. You’ll go to the top of the European continent at North Cape or perhaps all the way to the high Arctic archipelago of Svalbard. Behold Norway’s most photographed fishing village in Reine, browse petite bookshops in Fjærland, or enjoy a concert at the Northern Lights Cathedral in Alta. Remote yet ruggedly

beautiful islands such as Senja, Træna and Værlandet are hidden treasures that few get to visit, just waiting for you to discover them. And of course, there’s the light. In winter, between October and March, the Northern Lights colour Norway’s night skies, making our Christmas and New Year’s sailing that much more magical. Come summer, Norway above the Arctic Circle becomes the land of eternal daylight, even at midnight, granting you extra sunlight hours to explore even more.
Experts by your side The Expedition Team will be there to guide you as you discover the beauty and charm of the Norwegian coast. Through talks and lectures, they’ll enhance your experience with insights that can only come from intimate, local knowledge. You’ll explore topics that relate to Norwegian culture, history, food, wildlife, geology, and much more. The ship’s onboard Science Center will be your hub of discovery where you can study microscopic samples and learn about Citizen Science projects.
Home-grown on the coast Norway is at the forefront of a culinary revolution. Its pantry is the bountiful Norwegian coast. Freshas-can-be ingredients are grown, plucked, and harvested naturally all along the coast, and delivered directly to our chefs in the ports we bring you to. From handmade Lofoten icecream, artisanal cheeses, and succulent king crab, you’ll be able to savour the finest food Norway has to offer in our onboard restaurants during your expedition cruise.

you. As we make our way back to Dover, we’ll make one last call in Côte D’Opale, France. Here, you’ll enjoy breakfast and a walk on the beach as the sun rises.
Spring is in the air The fjords are magical in any season. On this springtime expedition cruise, we witness the fjords waking up from the long winter months. The days grow longer and the sun warms the air. Snow still covers the mountains, but as it begins to thaw, meltwater gushes down rock faces powering beautiful waterfalls and adding a deep colour to rivers. Down in the valleys, pastures are green, fruit trees are in bloom, and the idyllic fjord villages emerge from hibernation.

Midnight Sun Expedition Cruise from Dover Sailing from Dover, this expedition cruise takes in Norway’s famous fjords, charming coastal cities, Arctic landmarks and remote island archipelagos under the Midnight Sun.
Under the magic of the Midnight Sun
Norway’s best-kept travel secrets
On this summer expedition, you’ll have the chance to visit unique places like stunning Hjørundfjord, and Reine, a small village speckled with red fishing houses.
With our ships and knowhow leading the way, you’ll have the opportunity to explore locations along the Norwegian coast that few expedition ships sail to.
Above the Polar Circle in the Arctic North, you’ll experience the phenomenon of the Midnight Sun, which brings endless days drenched in hazy warm hues that light up Norway’s fjords and mountains.
Discover remote and rugged islands shaped by the elements, like Værlandet, as well as working fishing villages and well-preserved idylls, such as Træna and Senja, and unspoilt fjords where fewer visitors venture.
The atmosphere in summer here is very chilled, humming with the social buzz of local people hanging out late into the night, just as you might well be.
In an early morning ship cruise through Lysefjord, you’ll be treated to spectacular views of the famous Preikestolen. Your expedition ends back in Dover, but not before enjoying breakfast by the beach in Côte D’Opale in France.

From the White Cliffs of Dover to Norway’s Arctic… Board comfortable MS Maud in Dover bound for Norway. The Ultimate Winter Expedition Cruise from Dover This extensive winter expedition cruise brings you to a wide range of Norway’s coastal communities, snow-covered mountains, and fjords, hopefully under the Northern Lights.
Into the Arctic Circle
Off the beaten track
You’ll journey from Dover, first to the canals of Harlingen, then to Bergen. From that picturesque city, it’s time to sail into spectacular Sognefjord and hidden Hjørundfjord. Enjoy exploring the coast of the Trøndelag region before going on to spend over 9 days above the Arctic Circle during winter, chasing Norway’s Northern Lights.
The ship will continue south to discover geologically diverse Senja island, and the stunning Lofoten fishing village of Reine surrounded by mountains dusted in snow. Your adventure will also take you to Loen at the heart of Nordfjord and to remote but charming communities in Kalvåg and Klosterøy.
Remember WWII British heroes in Narvik and then go into expedition mode along the coast of Vesterålen, exploring this scenic area based on the local weather conditions on the day. Learn about polar exploration history in Arctic capital Tromsø, see the top of Europe at the North Cape, and admire the Northern Lights Cathedral in Alta.
Before heading back to Dover, you’ll spend a day in Amsterdam. Explore this cosmopolitan city on a canal boat tour. By the end of this great adventure into the Arctic, you’ll have made many special memories. Don’t be surprised if you’ve fallen in love with the Norwegian coast, perhaps even witnessing the magnificent Northern Lights several times.

Arctic Winter Expedition Cruise from Dover Join us on a one-way winter expedition to the landscapes of the Norwegian coast, exploring its fjords, towns and cities on the hunt for the Northern Lights.
Sailing north from Dover Setting off from Dover, you’ll spend a day in Harlingen, a harbour city in the Netherlands with a strong nautical heritage. Once the ship reaches Norway, your first stop will be Bergen, where the Fløibanen funicular will take you to a viewpoint 320 metres above water level for wonderful view of the city. Don’t miss the UNESCO-listed Bryggen district with its colourful wooden wharfs. We then continue on to Sognefjorden, the longest and deepest fjord in Norway. Here you will visit the tiny hamlet of Fjærland, not far from the largest glacier on the European continent, Jostedalsbreen. Next is breathtaking Hjørundfjorden, surrounded by the Sunnmøre Alps with peaks soaring 1,700 metres straight up from the sea.
Polar nights and Northern Lights The hours of daylight shorten once we cross the Arctic Circle, replaced by dim blue twilight that makes the snowy scenery of the coast even more magical. Explore the Lofoten archipelago and the town of Svolvær, with the impressive jagged peaks of granite mountains as a dramatic backdrop. Next up, visit the war museum in Narvik to understand the central role this town had during World War II. After discovering the beauty of Vesterålen, your expedition cruise ends in Tromsø, known as “Paris of the North” for its cosmopolitan vibes and as the “Gateway to the Arctic” for its long history of polar exploration.

Expedition Cruise from the Northern Lights to Dover From Tromsø in the Arctic, first sail to North Cape and then to Dover, England, looking for the Northern Lights and exploring rarely-visited Norwegian islands along the way.
Arctic adventure Your expedition cruise starts in the vibrant city of Tromsø. From here, we sail north to one of the northernmost points in Europe at North Cape. Turning south, we dock in Alta where you can join exciting winter activities and visit the impressive Northern Lights Cathedral. Next, we arrive in Senja, rated one of the ten most beautiful islands in the world for its diverse landscapes. With an impressive mountain range, maybe the aurora above, and snow-dusted, red-painted fishing huts, the village of Reine in the Lofoten Islands is understandably one of the most photographed landscapes in all of Norway.
The ship then sails to the village of Loen deep within Nordfjord, not far from Jostedalsbreen – the largest glacier in Europe. We’ll then go on to visit the charming fishing village of Kalvåg, which few ever see. Our final destination in Norway are the islands of Mosterøy and Klosterøy, homes to an old WWII fort and medieval abbey. After an enjoyable winter expedition along the Norwegian coast, your journey takes you to Amsterdam, the Netherlands’ pulsating capital, before coming to an end in Dover, England.
Enchanting mountains and hidden gems Continuing south, we cruise the Helgeland coast, admiring its many mountains and myriad of islands.

Polar nights and Northern Lights
Your expedition will take you to a range of communities living and thriving on the Norwegian coast.

Christmas Expedition Cruise from Dover Make your Christmas and New Year´s even more magical with an expedition along the beautiful Norwegian coast, bringing together yuletide traditions and the spectacular Northern Lights.
It’s beginning to look a lot like…
Starting the New Year on an adventure
Sailing from Dover, we reach Egersund, home to Norway’s best Christmas market, on the morning of the quiet Christmas Eve.
In the Arctic capital of Tromsø, you’ll learn about its polar history and possibly take part in exciting excursions.
Then we journey deep into Sognefjord to enjoy Christmas Day in the picturesque village of Fjærland.
We’ll be celebrating New Year’s Eve, surrounded by the spectacular scenery of the Lofoten Islands, a true highlight. We’ll then spend a day exploring the remote, rarely visited, but very charming island of Kalvåg.
From there, it’s across the Arctic Circle to visit Svolvær, the largest town in the Lofoten Islands. Basking in the light of the Polar Night, we continue north to Narvik, a small town with huge historical significance. We go stargazing in Alta; situated at 70°N, it’s one of the most northerly towns in the world and one of the best places to see the aurora, should it appear.
Just before the ship returns to Dover, you’ll have time to explore the Dutch port of Harlingen, on the southern shore of the Wadden Sea, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Scenic fjords and fishing towns Hjørundfjord is our first stop, a beautiful Norwegian fjord. Sailing across the Arctic Circle we visit the Lofoten Islands, calling at Svolvær, a town framed by a spectacular mountain backdrop. Next, we visit the idyllic fishing village of Sommarøy, North Cape at the northernmost point of the European mainland, and Vardø, once a centre for Pomor trade and with historic ties with Russia.
Our last two days are in Norwegian waters. In Troms and Finnmarken, we aim to make landfall and explore. On our penultimate day, we sail into and drop anchor in waters surrounded by the stunning Lyngen Alps. Our day will be spent hiking, kayaking and just enjoying the sense of wilderness. We say farewell in Tromsø, the starting point for so many Arctic expeditions, many of which are detailed at the Polar Museum.
Into Russia and the White Sea The port of Murmansk marks our foray into Russia. From here we enter the White Sea region, where routes and landing sites are dependent on weather conditions. The city of Arkhangelsk beckons, before we move on to the rarely visited Solovetsky Islands. On our last day in the White Sea, weather permitting, we will explore the Kola Peninsula, before returning to Murmansk.

The Wonders of Madeira and the Canary Islands – Atlantic Expedition Cruise Verdant volcanic landscapes, breathtaking coastal scenery and unique island cultures an unforgettable expedition to Madeira and the Canary Islands awaits.
Garden of the Atlantic Your expedition starts in Gran Canaria, the third largest of the Canary Islands. Often called a ‘continent in miniature’ due to its varied landscapes and ecosystems, Gran Canaria is an idyllic launchpad for your adventure. Explore the capital, Las Palmas, before embarking on your cruise. Our first stop is Madeira, the aptly nicknamed ‘Garden of the Atlantic.’ Sample exotic fruits and worldfamous Madeira wines before sailing to the tranquil sandy beaches of Porto Santo.
Islands sculpted by volcanoes Lanzarote is a geologist’s dream. Take in the eerily spartan volcano-sculpted landscape and its sun-kissed capital, Arrecife, and explore Tenerife – an island dominated by the world’s thirdlargest volcano. As you soak up the atmosphere of Santa
Cruz, you’ll experience its irresistible mix of a vibrant harbour, charming old-town appeal and a slick modern edge. Afterwards, you’ll see why La Palma is called La Isla Bonita.
Go way off the beaten track When you set foot on El Hierro, you’ll be on the youngest, smallest and westernmost of the Canary Islands. On its hiking trails, you’ll discover why UNESCO declared El Hierro a World Biosphere Reserve. As your cruise draws to a close, you’ll enjoy an authentic slice of traditional Canary life in La Gomera before ending your expedition in Gran Canaria.

Neighbouring nations and classic countryside
From the chalk cliffs of England’s Dover to Scotland’s windswept Shetland Islands, there’s a wealth of nature, culture and history to be unearthed at every turn. Our expedition ships allow you to really explore the coastline and isles, dropping anchor at little-visited natural harbours and beaches, or pulling up alongside historic Welsh ports and Irish cities. Birders are in for a treat as we voyage to some of Europe’s most important seabird colonies, while aficionados of culture will always find something of interest at our destinations,
from whisky distilleries to curated museums. Distinct countries and cultures The British Isles are shared by several nations, each with their own intriguing differences in culture, customs, history, governance and even language. England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland collectively make up the United Kingdom, while the Republic of Ireland is a separate country on its own. Along with hundreds of smaller islands, such as the Isle of Man, they are often referred to as the British Isles.
As much as divisions still exist politically, respectful rivalries in sport and good-natured jokes generally mean that the uniqueness of each nation is accepted and even celebrated. Whether it’s the quiet politeness of the English, the charisma of the Irish, the romantic and passionate Welsh, or the wit and humour of the Scottish, each adds to the rich cultural tapestry to be discovered here. An expedition cruise with us will allow you to observe the various subtle differences for yourself.

A history stretching back into the mists of time It’s no secret England, Wales, Scotland, and Ireland are soaked in history, and it seems everywhere you look there’s a castle, cathedral or ancient ruin to explore. You’ll get to see this up close and really feel the drama of the past, while in seaports and coastal cities you’ll see the rich maritime heritage of these islands, ranging from royal Tudor flagships to WWII battleships and much more. With a cast of Romans, Vikings and Normans having inhabited the region, you’ll learn about the islands’
complex past as you explore age-old monasteries or walk among the ruins of age-old settlements. The legacy of the ancients remains too, and few places conjure a mystical sense of antiquity as powerfully as the stone circles, standing stones and other monuments erected by Neolithic cultures. Coastal nature and wildlife The seas and coasts around the British Isles are rich with wildlife, including everything from humpback whales and basking sharks to dolphins and seals. What’s more, islands including St. Kilda and the Treshnish Isles, are home to immense colo-
nies of seabirds, including Atlantic Puffins, Razorbills, Black-legged Kittiwakes and Northern Gannets. Wildlife throngs coastal areas too, with birds such as European Oystercatchers and sandpipers to be seen near beaches. Otters frequent river mouths and White-tailed as well as Golden Eagles soar above the islands and glens of Scotland. What’s more, there are innumerable wildflowers, rockpool life and smaller creatures to be discovered on the many nature trails and coastal paths you’ll have the opportunity to walk.

4 days MS Fridtjof Nansen Departure: 7 May 2022
British Isles – Historic Ports of the English Channel and Irish Sea Explore the historic coasts and sea ports of England and Ireland on this voyage aboard our state-of-the-art hybrid ship Fridtjof Nansen.
Historic stops in England and Ireland Voyage back in time as we sail up the beautiful coasts of England and Ireland. You’ll set out from Portsmouth, which played a key role in WWII, and visit Fowey in Cornwall, where pirates once smuggled rum and gold along the picturesque coast; Waterford in Ireland, founded by the Vikings in the 9th century; and Liverpool, beloved city of modern culture and Victorian nostalgia. There’ll be plenty to occupy the curious, from ancient ruins, castles and Viking settlements, to picturesque fishing villages, famous historic ships and the vibrant modern city of Liverpool. You’ll visit Cornwall’s rugged coastline with its rocky coves,
and maybe drop in on the nearby Eden Project, which features the world’s largest enclosed tropical rainforest.
Cultural highlights, learning and relaxation You’ll also find plenty of time to relax, with atmospheric old pubs to dive into, quaint harbourside cafés to sample cream teas in, and sandy beaches to stroll on. Our experienced Expedition Team are on hand to ensure you get the best experience on board as well as ashore. We make the most of our time on this short but eventful cruise aboard our brand-new expedition ship, Fridtjof Nansen, which features a lecture hall and a Science Center for learning.

Culture and wildlife in two remote archipelagos
Cape Verde, with its 15 different islands, nine of them inhabited, and the Bissagos, with over 88 islands and islets, are both fascinating archipelagos best visited by sea. Our small expedition ship allows you to really get close to their inaccessible coastlines and hard-toreach isles. We’re able to drop anchor off isolated, unspoilt beaches in the pristine Bissagos, or pull up alongside atmospheric Cape Verdean ports on ancient Atlantic trading routes. Nature lovers can look forward to the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in the
Bissagos, plus the globally significant levels of biodiversity in the waters around Cape Verde. On a cultural note, there’s the unique musical heritage of Cape Verde and the fascinating social structures of the Bissagos islanders. A blend of influences and beliefs Cape Verde is home to some of the world’s most sensual and evocative musical forms. The archipelago sits at a maritime crossroads in the Atlantic and has absorbed influences from a variety of traditions. From this, a musical culture has arisen
that’s a heady mix of West African and Portuguese styles, and migration to and from Brazil and the Caribbean has added to this. With its songs of longing and separation morna – perhaps the most famous musical tradition – reflects the pain of migration, while dancebased coladeira is far more rhythmic and joyful. Fundamental to life in the Bissagos is the islanders’ animistic belief system, which sees spirit in everything and holds the natural world to be sacred. This approach has helped preserve much of the islands’

remarkable biodiversity. The islands are also a matriarchal society, with women managing the religious, political and economic lives of their communities. Nature and wildlife The Cape Verde islands were formed by volcanic activity, and coral covered outcrops rise up from the seabed to surround many of them. These provide rare oceanic habitats for the hundreds of different species of fish that have been catalogued in these waters, along with at least 17 species of cetacean in the deeper water.
The archipelago is also a bird-watchers’ paradise, with many fascinating species arriving as temporary visitors on their way to distant climes, such the Sandpiper and Spoonbill, or those, such as the Madeiran Storm Petrel, known locally as the jaba-jaba, which use the islands as their sole breeding site. As you cruise through the Bissagos Islands aboard our expedition ship MS Spitsbergen, you’ll see why they were declared a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in 1996. A relative lack of human impact, combined
with diverse ecosystems including mangrove swamp and coastal savanna, has created a rich habitat. A plethora of birdlife, as well as many species of sea turtle, crocodiles, stingrays, sharks – including grey reefs and hammerheads – plus dolphins and the West African manatee make the islands their home. The most iconic inhabitants are the rare saltwater hippos, who bathe in the Islands’ lagoons.

Safaris Exploring the various islands on foot turns an experience into an adventure. You’ll be heading ashore a lot and walking on trails that lead through a range of distinct ecosystems. In the Bissagos Islands a particular highlight is Orango National Park, where in November and early December a guided safari on foot will give you the chance to witness the rare saltwater hippos, one of the islanders’ sacred animal icons.
Landings with expedition boats Our small expedition boats allow you to set foot on beaches and terrain that would otherwise be off limits due to a lack of infrastructure and facilities. They’re great for wildlife watching, so we’ll be on the lookout for marine creatures as we head to and from the ship.
Town and city tours From mainland African cities including Dakar and Banjul, to some of the smaller villages and towns on the islands, our Expedition Team will be on hand to point you in the direction of the most interesting sights and inform you about the culture and history of the place. Whether it be an included activity, an optional extra or just an informal look at some of their favourite places, the team will enthuse and inspire you.
Visiting local communities In the Bissagos Islands you’ll get the opportunity to meet the local Bijagos people under the guidance of our team and with a local translator. The Bijagos people still live a traditional way of life and theirs is a matriarchal society. They also follow an animist belief system which informs how they interact with the pristine natural environment. A visit to their communities is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and the Expedition Team will lead you on foot to meet them.

West Africa Archipelago Cruise – Cape Verde & Bissagos Islands from Dakar Join us as we discover the fascinating cultural, geographical and biological diversity of two African archipelagos, from beautiful Cape Verde to the tropical Bissagos Islands.
Africa to Cape Verde From rocky volcanic promontories in the deep Atlantic, warmed by the dry Saharan winds in the north, to lush and humid tropical rainforests further south, you’ll experience a mosaic of cultures, peoples, traditions, landscapes and ecosystems. Dakar, the buzzing capital of Senegal, lies on a promontory jutting out into the ocean. It’s the most affluent and influential city in Western Africa, and the preeminent hub of one of the continent’s most successful democracies. The nearby island of Gorée played a historical role in the slave trade, and is a draw for many visitors. Laid-back Cape Verde is situated around 350 miles from the African mainland. Its location creates some rare oceanic habitats, with coral reefs rich in marine life, and seas where cetaceans and turtles thrive. It’s also a bird-watchers paradise, with many fascinating species arriving as temporary visitors, together with several extremely rare endemic species. Uninhabited at the
time of its discovery, it was populated by Portuguese settlers and African slaves, fostering the development of a unique culture.
Bissagos Islands and back to Africa The Bissagos archipelago, located off the coast of Guinea-Bissau, is a pristine tropical paradise. These islands, which are a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, are known for their incredible biodiversity. They are also home to the Bijagos people – who have retained their ancient animistic beliefs, and live in a matriarchal society where women manage the economic, political and religious lives of their communities. The tiny city of Banjul is the capital of Gambia, itself the smallest country in mainland Africa. For centuries, the River Gambia was once a hub of the cruel slave trade. Places like James Island, nowadays a UNESCO World Heritage Site, bear testimony to this tragic period in history.

MS Spitsbergen Named in celebration of Hurtigruten’s long history of travelling to Spitsbergen, the manoeuvrability and optimal size of this ship makes it ideal for expedition cruising. One of our first ships to receive a make-over, the interiors are characterised by a sleek Scandinavian decor, with colours that reflect the palette of the sea. Wide observation decks and large panorama windows allow you to drink in views of the passing scenery outside. The restaurant, bistro, lounge & bar, together with the Science Center feeds both body and mind. Keep active in the fitness room and soothe your muscles in the hot tub and sauna. A true small ship feeling. © AGURTXANE CONCELLON

The price of our flight inclusive Arrangements includes the amount of £2.50 per person as part of the ATOL Protection Contribution (APC) we pay to the CAA. This charge is included in our advertised prices. Not all holiday or travel services offered and sold by us will be protected by the ATOL Scheme. ATOL protection extends primarily to Customers who book and pay in the United Kingdom. We, or the suppliers identified on your ATOL Certificate, will provide you with the services listed on the ATOL Certificate (or a suitable alternative). In some cases, where neither we nor the supplier are able to do so for reasons of insolvency, an alternative ATOL holder may provide you with the services you have bought (at no extra cost to you). You agree to accept that in those circumstances the alternative ATOL holder will perform those obligations and you agree to pay any money outstanding to be paid by you under your contract to that alternative ATOL holder. However, you also agree that in some cases it will not be possible to appoint an alternative ATOL holder, in which case you will be entitled to make a claim under the ATOL Scheme (or your credit card issuer where applicable). If we, or the suppliers identified on your ATOL certificate, are unable to provide the services listed (or a suitable alternative, through an alternative ATOL holder or otherwise) for reasons of insolvency, the Trustees of the Air Travel Trust may make a payment to (or confer a benefit on) you under the ATOL scheme. You agree that in return for such a payment or benefit you assign absolutely to those Trustees any claims which you have or may have arising out of or relating to the non-provision of the services, including any claim against us, the travel agent (or your credit card issuer where applicable). You also agree that any such claims may be re-assigned to another body, if that other body has paid sums you have claimed under the ATOL scheme. We provide financial security for holidays not including flights by way of a Escrow held with ABTA (www.abta.com; 30 Park Street, London SE1 9EQ). If you book Arrangements other than an ATOL protected flight or Package from us, your monies will not be financially protected. Please ask us for further details. 3. PAYMENT

FITNESS TO TRAVEL ON THE SHIP, PREGNANCY, DISABILITY OR REDUCED MOBILITY, MEDICAL/ MOBILITY EQUIPMENT In order to ensure that the Carrier is able to carry passengers safely and in accordance with applicable safety requirements established by international, EU or national law or in order to meet safety requirements established by competent authorities including the ships flag state every Passenger warrants that he/she is fit to travel by sea and that his/her conduct or condition will not impair the safety of the ship or inconvenience the other passengers. We reserve the right to require any Passenger to produce medical evidence of fitness to travel in order to assess whether that Passenger can be carried safely in accordance with applicable international, EU or national law. If we consider it necessary, we are entitled to administer a health questionnaire prior to boarding. If it appears to us, the Master or the Company’s nominated medical representative that a Passenger is for any reason unfit to travel, likely to endanger safety, or likely to be refused permission to land at any port, or likely to render the Carrier liable for Passenger maintenance, support or repatriation, then the Carrier or the Master shall have the right to take any of the following courses: (i) Refuse to embark the Passenger at any port; (ii) Disembark the Passenger at any port; (iii) Transfer the Passenger to another berth or cabin; (iv) If the Company’s nominated medical representative considers it advisable, to place or confine him/her or to transfer the Passenger to a health facility at any port, at the Passenger’s expense;
(v) To administer first aid and administer any drug, medicine or other substance or to admit and/or confine the Passenger to a hospital or other similar institution at any port provided that the ship’s nominated medical representative and/or Master considers that any such steps are necessary. Where a Passenger is refused embarkation as a result of safety and/ or fitness to travel, neither we nor the carrier shall be liable for any loss or expense occasioned to the passenger thereby, nor shall the passenger be entitled to any compensation from the Carrier. Passengers who need assistance and/or have special requests or need special facilities or equipment with regard to accommodation, seating or services required or need to bring medical equipment must notify us at the time of booking. If there are any particular conditions, disabled or reduced mobility which require personal care or supervision then such personal care or supervision must be organised by the passenger and at the passenger’s expense. Those passengers confined to wheelchairs must furnish their own standard size foldable wheelchairs but needn’t be accompanied by a travelling companion. Unless we and or the Carrier agree otherwise and in writing Passengers are limited to bringing 2 items of such mobility or medical equipment on board per cabin with a total value not exceeding £2,200. All equipment must be capable of being carried safety and must be declared before the sailing. The Carrier may decline to carry such equipment where it is not safe to do so or where it has not been notified in time to enable a risk assessment to be carried out. Pregnant women are highly recommended to seek medical advice prior to travel at any stage of their pregnancy. Women who are up to 23 weeks pregnant at the end of the cruise are required to produce a medical certificate of fitness to travel. The Carrier cannot for safety reasons carry pregnant passengers of 24 weeks or more by the end of the cruise. 5. A - PRICES All Voyage prices shown in this brochure are in pounds sterling and are per person based on full occupancy of the cabin accommodation unless otherwise stated. Single/Sole occupancy of cabins with more than one berth is at our discretion as single/sole use of multiple berth cabins will be limited. We reserve the right to change any of the prices quoted in this brochure although there will be no change within 30 days of your departure date. You will be advised of the current price of the voyage or air package holiday you wish to book before your contract is confirmed. The price of your confirmed holidays is subject at all times to variations in: (i) the price of transportation resulting from the cost of fuel or other power sources; (ii) the level of taxes or fees applicable to the holiday imposed by third parties not directly involved in the performance of your holiday, including

tourist taxes, landing taxes or embarkation or disembarkation fees at ports and airports; or (iii) the exchange rates relevant to your package. You will be charged for the amount of any increase in accordance with this clause and, where this is necessary, we will notify you of the relevant adjustments by issuing a new invoice. However, if this means that you have to pay an increase of more than 8% of the total price of your confirmed holiday (excluding any amendment charges and/or additional services or travel arrangements), you will have the option of accepting the price increase and paying the requested amount, accepting a change to another holiday if we are able to offer one (if this is of equivalent or higher quality you will not have to pay more but if it is of lower quality you will be refunded the difference in price), or cancelling and receiving a full refund of all monies paid to us, except for any amendment charges and/or additional services or travel arrangements not forming part of your package. Should you decide to cancel for this reason, you must exercise your right to do so within 14 days from the issue date on your new invoice. Should the price of your voyage or air package holiday go down due to changes above then any refund due will be paid to you, less an administration fee of £60. Please note that travel arrangements are not always purchased in local currency and some apparent changes have no impact on the price of your travel due to contractual or other protection in place.
we incur in making this alteration. NB: most airlines will charge a fee for ticket changes. Costs may increase the closer to the departure date that changes are made. For example, the transfer within 60 days of departure of arrangements involving a scheduled flight will mean the cancellation and re-booking of this flight and a significant additional charge. If you change the number of people in your party, the price of the arrangements will be recalculated for the new party size e.g. this may mean that accommodation is under-occupied and each member of the party may have to pay an increased price. Any increase in price caused by changes you have requested is not a cancellation charge even though it may arise because a member of your party has cancelled. Any change by you to your confirmed arrangements after departure is in all cases subject to availability and any relevant costs. Transfer of Booking: If any member of your party is prevented from travelling, that person(s) may transfer their place to someone else, subject to the following conditions: • that person is introduced by you and satisfies all the conditions applicable to the Arrangements; • we are notified no less than 7 days before departure; • you pay any outstanding balance payment, an administration fee of £100 per person as well as any additional fees, charges or other costs arising from the transfer; and
There will be no change made to the price of your confirmed holiday within 20 days of your departure nor will refunds be paid during this period.
• the transferee agrees to these booking conditions and all other requirements applicable to the holiday booking.
5. B - VOYAGE AND AIR PACKAGE HOLIDAY
You and the transferee remain jointly and severally liable for payment of all sums.
Prices Do Not Include: • Travel Insurance • Luggage Handling • International Flights except where included in the Air Package Holiday Price • Optional Excursions • Gratuities Optional Excursions booked before you travel or local excursions or other activities that you may choose to book and pay for whilst on holiday are not part of your voyage or air package holiday arrangements provided by us nor are we agents for the provider of the service. For any excursion or other activity you book before departure or with which you are assisted in arranging whilst on holiday, your contract will solely be with the supplier of the excursion or activity and not with Hurtigruten. We are not responsible for the provision of your excursion or activity or for anything that happens during the course of its provision by the supplier. 6. IF YOU CHANGE OR TRANSFER YOUR BOOKING If you wish to change your travel arrangements after they have been confirmed we will do our utmost to help but it may not always be possible. Any request for changes to be made must be in writing by the person who made the booking or your travel agent. You will be asked to pay an administration charge of £60 per person and any further cost
If you are unable to find a replacement, cancellation charges as set out will apply in order to cover our estimated costs. Otherwise, no refunds will be given for passengers not travelling or for unused services. 7. IF YOU CANCEL

If you have to cancel for a reason covered by your travel insurance you may be able to reclaim the cancellation charges, less applicable excess. Insurance premiums are not refundable. 8. IF YOU CANCEL DUE TO FORCE MAJEURE You have the right to cancel your confirmed holiday before departure without paying a cancellation charge in the event of unavoidable and extraordinary circumstances occurring at your holiday destination or its immediate vicinity and significantly affecting the performance of the holiday or which significantly affects transport arrangements to the destination. In these circumstances, we shall provide you with a full refund of the monies you have paid but we will not be liable to pay you any compensation. Please see clause 10 for more information on Force Majeure. 9. IF WE CHANGE OR CANCEL YOUR BOOKING We reserve the right to change any of the details, and correct any errors in this brochure or invoices at any time. If changes are made before you have made your booking we will advise you before we confirm your arrangements. We reserve the right in any circumstances to cancel your travel arrangements (for example if a minimum number of participants for a particular travel arrangements not reached, we may have to cancel it) and to change airline, aircraft types, vessels and itineraries without liability for any subsequent loss. Even after we have confirmed your booking we may have to cancel or make alterations to your booking but we will not cancel your travel arrangements less than 60 days before your departure except for reasons of force majeure or failure by you to pay the final balance in full. Most alterations will be minor and while we will do our best to notify you or your travel agent of any changes as soon as reasonably possible if there is time before your departure, we will have no other liability to you.
You, or any member of your party, may cancel your travel arrangements at any time. Written confirmation from the person who made the booking or your travel agent must be received by us via email or our offices. For postal cancellations, we recommend recorded delivery. Cancellation takes effect the day we receive your letter or email. Since we incur costs in relation to your arrangements from the time we confirm your booking you will have to pay the applicable cancellation charges as shown in the table below (which also applies if we cancel because you have failed to make payments on time - see ‘Payment’ section) together with the cost of any air fare for which we have had to pay at the time of the booking and will be payable immediately on cancellation.
Occasionally we may have to make a significant change (“Significant Change”) to your confirmed arrangements. Significant Changes include the following:
EXPEDITION CRUISES: When the Charges as a % cancellation of the total letter is received holiday cost by us before (excl. insurance departure premiums) 90 or more days 20%
Change of holiday accommodation to accommodation of a lower official rating.
Change of UK departure airport. Note: A change from one London airport to another is not considered a Significant Change. London airports are Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted, Luton and London City. Change of your time of departure or return by more than 12 hours. Change of your flight from a day flight to a night flight if this also includes a change to your departure time of 3 hours or more.† Change of resort.
† For the purposes of the contract night flights are those which depart from the UK between 2200 and 0600
hours or arrive in the UK between 2400 and 0600 hours. If we have to make a Significant Change we will notify you as soon as possible and you may either: (a) accept the Significant Change and the contract between us will then be varied to incorporate the change; or (b) take alternative arrangements altogether (subject to availability). If the alternative arrangements selected are a lower price than those originally confirmed the difference will (if already paid) be refunded to you; or (c) withdraw from the booking completely in which case we will, as soon as possible, refund all money paid to us. You must inform us of your decision as soon as reasonably possible and not later than 7 days of being informed of the alteration. If you choose (a) or (b) above, you will receive as compensation a credit towards the cost of your arrangements, or any alternative selected, as per the amount shown in Scale A below. If you choose (c) we will pay you compensation shown in Scale B below. In all cases we will have no liability for any other or greater compensation or for expenses or losses incurred. Period before Credit/ Compensation departure date per fare paying notification passenger given by us (excluding infants)* 0–7 days 8–14 days 15–28 days 29–42 days 43–59 days
Scale A £50 £40 £30 £20 £10
Scale B £25 £20 £15 £0 £5
*The compensation shown above applies to full fare paying adults only. Children or others travelling at concessionary rates will receive compensation pro rata based on the concessionary price against the full adult price as shown on the confirmation. IMPORTANT NOTE: We will not pay you compensation in the following circumstances: where we make a change that is not a Significant Change; where we make a Significant Change or cancel your arrangements more than 60 days before departure; where we have to cancel your arrangements as a result of your failure to make full payment on time; where the change or cancellation by us arises out of alterations to the confirmed booking requested by you; where we are forced to cancel or change your arrangements due to Force Majeure (see clause 10). Please note: where arrangements with a higher price than the original arrangements are offered by us and accepted by you, the difference in price will be deducted from any compensation payable. In no case will we pay compensation if the arrangements offered by us and accepted by you are of a higher price than those originally booked by you and in the same location where no additional payment is made by you. 117

TERMS AND CONDITIONS If we become unable to provide a significant proportion of the arrangements that you have booked with us after you have departed, we will make alternative arrangements for you at no extra charge and, if appropriate in all the circumstances, will pay you reasonable compensation. A flight or ship delay does not constitute a change to holiday arrangements.
of service to you by ABTA’s Code of Conduct. We can also offer you ABTA’s scheme for the resolution of disputes which is approved by the Chartered Trading Standards Institute. If we can’t resolve your complaint, go to www.abta.com to use ABTA’s simple procedure. Further information on the Code and ABTA’s assistance in resolving disputes can be found on www.abta.com. 13. OUR LIABILITY TO YOU
10. FORCE MAJEURE Except where otherwise expressly stated in these Booking Conditions we are unable to accept liability or pay compensation where the performance or prompt performance of our contractual obligation is prevented or affected by reason of circumstances amounting to ‘force majeure’ i.e. any event which we or the supplier(s) of the service(s) could not, even with due care foresee or avoid. Such events may include, but are not limited to, war, threat of war or civil commotions, riots, terrorist activity, industrial dispute, natural or nuclear disaster, adverse weather, fire, flood, drought, government action, airport and port regulations and closures, technical transportation problems, maintenance to vessels, scheduling of transport and similar events outside our control. A flight or ship delay does not constitute a change to holiday arrangements.
(i) We will accept responsibility for those arrangements we agree to provide or arrange for you as an ‘organiser’ under the Package Travel, Package Holidays and Package Tours Regulations 1992 and the EU Directive 2015/2302 on Package Travel (and subsequent UK regulations) as set out below. Subject to these booking conditions, if we or our suppliers perform or arrange your contracted holiday arrangements negligently, taking into consideration all relevant factors, we will pay you reasonable compensation. The level of such compensation will be calculated taking into consideration all relevant factors such as but not limited to: following the complaints procedure as described in these conditions and the extent to which ours or our employees’ or suppliers’ negligence affected the overall enjoyment of your holiday. Please note that it is your responsibility to show that we or our supplier(s) have been negligent if you wish to make a claim against us.
11. COMPLAINT PROCEDURE If there is a problem during your holiday, you must report it on board immediately or to the relevant airline, ground handler, hotelier or other supplier, so that prompt efforts can be made to resolve the problem. In the unlikely event that a problem cannot be resolved at the time and you wish to complain, you must send us full written details within 28 days of your return. Failure to take either or both of these steps will prejudice our ability to resolve your problem and / or investigate it fully. In consequence, any right to compensation you may have will be extinguished or, at the very least, substantially reduced. Where the port of embarkation for your sailing is in the EU then any complaints relating to EU Regulation 1177/2010 on Passenger Rights when travelling by Sea and Inland waterways must be made to us in writing no later than 2 months after return from travel or the date on which the service complained of was performed. We will provide a final reply within 2 months. You must supply full details to enable us to deal with your complaint. Please note that we offer an Alternative Dispute Resolution service through our ABTA membership. Please see clause 12 for further details. You can also access the European Commission Online Dispute (ODR) Resolution platform at http://ec.europa.eu/consumers/ odr/. This ODR platform is a means of registering your complaint with us; it will not determine how your complaint should be resolved. 12. ABTA We are a Member of ABTA, membership number V7545. We are obliged to maintain a high standard
(iii) Where death and or personal injury and or loss of or damage to property occurs during carriage by air or by sea then liability and the extent of damages recoverable will be dealt with by International Conventions as set out in paragraphs (v) and (vi) and not otherwise. (iv) As set out in these booking conditions we limit the maximum amount we may have to pay you for any claims you may make against us which do not involve personal injury, illness or death. Except where loss of and/or damage to luggage or personal possessions is concerned if we are found liable to you on any basis the maximum amount we will have to pay you is twice the price (excluding insurance premiums and amendment charges) paid by or on behalf of the person(s) affected in total unless a lower limitation applies to your claim under clause 13 (vi) below. (v) Where any claim or part of a claim (including those involving death or personal injury) concerns or is based on any travel arrangements (including the process of getting on and/or off the transport concerned) provided by any air, sea, rail or road carrier or any stay in a hotel, the maximum amount of compensation we will have to pay you will be limited. The most we will have to pay you for that claim or that part of a claim if we are found liable to you on any basis is the most the carrier or hotel keeper concerned would have to pay under the international convention or regulation which applies to the travel arrangements or hotel stay in question. (for example, the Warsaw Convention as amended or unamended and the Montreal Convention for international travel by air and/or for airlines with an operating licence granted by an EU country, the EC Regulation on Air Carrier Liability No 889/2002 for
national and international travel by air, the Athens convention for international travel by sea). Please note: Where a carrier or hotel would not be obliged to make any payment to you under the applicable International Convention or Regulation in respect of a claim or part of a claim, we similarly are not obliged to make a payment to you for that claim or part of the claim. When making any payment, we are entitled to deduct any money which you have received or are entitled to receive from the transport provider or hotelier for the complaint or claim in question. Copies of the applicable International Conventions and Regulations are available from us on request. We do not have any liability to you by virtue of the Regulation 261/2004 which applies solely to the operating carrier. Any liability we may have to you under our contract with you, arising out of the same facts, is limited to the remedies provided under the Regulation as if (for this purpose only) we were a carrier; any sums you receive from the carrier will be deducted from any amount due from ourselves. (vi) Travel by sea is governed by the provisions of the Convention Relating to the Carriage of Passengers and their Luggage by Sea 1974 as amended in 1976 (“The Athens Convention) and where applicable from 1 January 2013 EU Regulation 392/2009 relating to the Liability of carriers of passengers by sea in the event of accidents (“EU Regulation 392/2009). For the purposes of the Athens Convention and EU Regulation 392/2009 we are the Contracting Carrier. The Athens Convention and EU Regulation 392/2009 limit the Carriers’ liability for death or personal injury or loss or damage to luggage and makes special provision for valuables. It is presumed that luggage has been delivered to you undamaged unless written notice is given by us and/or the performing Carrier. a) in the case of apparent damage, before or at the time of disembarkation or redelivery; or b) in the case of damage which is not apparent or of loss, within 15 days from the date of disembarkation or redelivery or from the time when such redelivery should have taken place. Damages for cabin luggage payable by the Carrier are limited up to the Athens Convention limit of 833 SDRs or 2250 SDRs if EU Regulation 392/2009 applies. Limits shall be reduced in proportion to any contributory negligence by the Client and by the maximum deductible specified in Article 8(4) of the Athens Convention or EU Regulation 392/2009. In so far as we may be liable to a Client in respect of claims arising out of carriage by sea, we shall be entitled to all the rights, defences, immunities and limitations available, respectively, to the actual carrier and under the relevant Conventions and nothing in these Booking Conditions shall be deemed as a surrender thereof. To the extent that any provision in these Booking Conditions is made null and void by the Athens Convention or EU Regulation 392/2009 or any legislation compulsorily applicable or
is otherwise unenforceable, it shall be void to that extent but not further. Any liability in respect of death and personal injury and loss of and damage to luggage which we may incur to you shall always be subject to the limits of liability contained in the Athens Convention or EU Regulation 392/2009 for death/ personal injury of 46,666 Special Drawing Rights (SDR) or 300,000 SDR under Athens Convention or 400,000 SDRs under EU Regulation 392/2009 except in the case of liability for war or terrorism 250,000 SDRs. We are not liable for valuables, monies or other securities including jewellery and watches. If they have been deposited with the reception desk on the ship for safe keeping and a receipt issued then in those limited circumstances the Carriers liability will be as set out in the Athens Convention or EU Regulation 392/2009. The use of safes on board a Vessel is not a deposit with the ship or with the company under the Athens Convention or EU Regulation 392/2009 or otherwise. The limits are 1200 SDRs pursuant to Athens or 3,375 SDRs pursuant to EU Regulation 392/2009. (vii) Where there is any loss of or damage to property including luggage which is not covered by any international convention and where liability is not limited by reference to any enactment, terms of conditions, then any legal liability that we may have for any such losses or damage will not exceed £500 per guest. (viii) You must provide ourselves and our insurers with all assistance we may reasonably require. You must also tell us and the supplier concerned about your claim or complaint as set out in clause 11 above. If asked to do so, you must transfer to us or our insurers any rights you have against the supplier or whoever else is responsible for your claim or complaint (if the person concerned is under 18, their parent or guardian must do so). You must also agree to cooperate fully with us and our insurers if we or our insurers want to enforce any rights which are transferred. (ix) Please note, we cannot accept any liability for any damage, loss or expense or other sum(s) of any description: (a) which on the basis of the information given to us by you concerning your booking prior to our accepting it, we could not have foreseen you would suffer or incur if we breached our contract with you; or (b) relate to any business. (x) We will not accept responsibility for services or facilities which do not form part of our agreement or where they are not advertised in our brochure. For example any excursion you book whilst away, or any service or facility which your hotel or any other supplier agrees to provide for you. 14. YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES AND INDEMNITY When you book arrangements with us you accept responsibility for the proper conduct of yourself and your party. If your actions or omissions cause damage to any property in the provision of the contracted arrangements, or cause delay or diversion to any flight or other means of transportation, you agree to fully

indemnify us against any claim (including professional fees and legal costs) made against us by or on behalf of the owner of such property or the operator of the flight or other means of transportation. The Captain of an aircraft or Master of a ship has authority over the aircraft/ship and passengers at all times when they are boarding or on board. There will be no liability on our part, or that of any supplier, for any refund, compensation, or costs thus incurred. Additionally, we will have the right to recover full costs resulting from the incident from the passenger. At any port or place we may refuse to embark or may disembark any passenger who, in the opinion of the ship’s authorized personnel, might be excluded from landing at further destinations by local authorities or who may be suffering from any contagious or infectious disease, or whose presence may be detrimental to the wellbeing of passengers or crew. In cases of quarantine of the ship, or individual passengers (passengers may be required to remain in their cabin or as instructed by authorised personnel on board if they or any other occupant of the accommodation presents any symptoms or may be considered to put other passengers at risk) we will not be liable for expenses thus caused and in such cases as above there will be no entitlement to any refund or compensation and we will have no liability for costs incurred as a result. Your specific passport and visa and health requirements and other immigration requirements are your responsibility and you should confirm these with the relevant Embassies and/or Consulates. We do not accept responsibility if you cannot travel because you have not complied with the latest requirements. If you have made independent travel arrangements you accept responsibility for joining the ship in good time, regardless of any change to the sailing time or date, or to the itinerary. We are not able to refund monies paid to us, or any third party acting on our or your behalf, or make compensation or other payments where, for whatever reason, you fail to join the ship. Passengers going ashore are responsible for re-boarding the ship prior to departure from port. We reserve the right to substitute another vessel for the scheduled vessel whether or not owned or operated by Hurtigruten. Any part of the travel arrangements and the voyage is subject to cancellation, delay, modification, or island/ mainland visit cancellation for any reason, including medical disembarkation of crew or passengers or any other circumstances beyond our or our suppliers’ control. You therefore acknowledge and agree that the scheduled itinerary for the voyage

15. INSURANCE
If the contract we have with you is not performed or is improperly performed as a result of failures attributable to you or a third party unconnected with the provision of the arrangements, or as a result of failures due to unusual and extraordinary circumstances, and you suffer an injury or other material loss, we will offer you such prompt assistance as is appropriate in the circumstances. In particular, we will provide you with appropriate information on health services, local authorities and consular assistance, and with distance communications and finding alternative travel arrangements. Where you experience a delay which is not owing to any failure by us, our employees or subcontractors, this prompt assistance is likely to extend to providing help in locating refreshments, accommodation and communications but not paying for them. Any airline or other transport supplier may however pay for or provide refreshments and/or appropriate accommodation and you should make a claim directly to them. Subject to the other terms of these conditions, we will not be liable for any costs, fees or charges you incur in the above circumstances, if you fail to obtain our prior authorisation before making your own travel arrangements.
Additionally, where your holiday is outside the European Economic Area (EEA), controls on data protection in your destination may not be as strong as the legal requirements in this country. We will not pass any information on to any person not responsible for part of your travel arrangements. This applies to any sensitive information that you give to us such as details of any disabilities, or dietary/religious requirements. (If we cannot pass this information to the relevant suppliers, whether in the EEA or not, we cannot provide your booking. In making this booking, you consent to this information being passed on to the relevant persons.) Please note that where information is also held by your travel agent, this is subject to your agent’s own data protection policy. 18. VALIDITY OF TERMS AND CONDITIONS
What do we mean by a Northern Lights Occurrence?
