Reproduction is defined as the biological process by which a new individual or parent produces similar offspring. This process ensures an increase in the number of species when conditions are favorable. This is one of the basic characteristics of living things. Two types of reproduction are – asexual and sexual. Sexual Reproduction – The process of sexual reproduction is very complex, involving the formation and transfer of gametes, followed by the process of fertilization, zygote, and embryo. Asexual Reproduction – This reproductive process involves only one parent, and the new offspring are genetically identical to the parents. Reproduction in human beings All human beings go through the process of sexual reproduction. In the process, both parents are involved in the creation of a new person. The combination of gametes (sex cells) from each parent produces offspring. Therefore, the newly formed individual will be genetically and physically separated from the parents. Human reproduction is an example of sexual reproduction. In humans, the reproductive systems of men and women are different; therefore, they are known to exhibit sexual dimorphism. Men have testicles – also called testicles, and women have ovaries.
