DEAR READER, I AM AN MENG ARCHITECTURAL ENGINEERING GRADUATE FROM CARDIFF UNIVERSITY, WHERE I HAVE RECEIVED MY DEGREE IN MID-JULY 2019, GRADUATING WITH A 2:1 HONOURS DIVISION. I AM APPLYING TODAY GIVEN MY BACKGROUND IN ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN ALONGSIDE MY ENGINEERING SKILLS, IN WHICH I HAVE DEVELOPED OVER MY LAST 4 YEARS AT CARDIFF UNIVERSITY, TOGETHER WITH MY INDIVIDUAL THRIVE TO LEARN, INNOVATE AND CREATE. GIVEN I GREW UP IN AMMAN-JORDAN AND HAVE VISITED MANY NEIGHBOURING AND CULTURALLY FILLED COUNTRIES, MY INTEREST IN ARCHITECTURE WAS THUS DEVELOPED FROM AN EARLY AGE, AS I WAS ALWAYS INSPIRED TO BECOME ONE OF THE ARCHITECTS THAT HAVE BUILT A LEGACY AND FASCINATED OTHERS JUST LIKE I WAS, AND STILL AM. AS A RESULT, I HAVE DECIDED TO PURSUE MY ARCHITECTURAL DREAMS AND FURTHER CHALLENGE MYSELF BY COMBINING ARCHITECTURE WITH ENGINEERING, IN ORDER TO HAVE A CLEAR AND BETTER UNDERSTANDING IN PERFECTING A BUILDING FROM ITS FOUNDATIONS TO ITS AESTHETIC FAÇADE. DURING MY TIME AT CARDIFF UNIVERSITY, I HAVE BEEN EXPOSED TO DIFFERENT LEARNING SKILLS, ALLOWING ME TO BROADEN MY UNDERSTANDING, CREATIVITY AND INNOVATION. FOLLOWING THROUGH, THIS HAS ENABLED ME TO COMPLETE HIGH-TECH PLANNING, SIMULATION AND FUTURISTIC IMPLEMENTATION TASKS, GIVEN OUR SOLE PURPOSE AS ENGINEERS IS TO BUILD FOR A BETTER FUTURISTIC EARTH. IN ADDITION TO THAT, MY INDUSTRY EXPERIENCE, I.E. INTERNSHIPS, HAVE ALSO ALLOWED ME TO INDULGE IN THE MODERN/ARTISTIC SIDE OF THE FIELD, BESIDES ENHANCING MY ACQUIRED SKILLS. APART FROM MY DEGREE, I BELIEVE THAT THERE IS MORE TO WHAT A PERSON CAN OFFER OUTSIDE HIS/HER FIELD OF EDUCATIONAL KNOWLEDGE, THEREFORE, FROM A YOUNG AGE I HAVE BEEN INVOLVED IN MANY EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES THAT HELPED SHAPE THE PERSON I AM TODAY. SOME OF MY INTERESTS INCLUDE PAINTING, PHOTOGRAPHY, VOLUNTEERING AND MAINLY SPORTS, WHERE I AM A BALLERINA, A VOLLEYBALL PLAYER AND 5DAN TAEKWONDO PLAYER. AS A RESULT, I ENJOY WORKING WITHIN A GROUP OF LIKE-MINDED PEOPLE SHARING THE SAME PASSION AND PURPOSE, CHALLENGING ME TO PRODUCE MY BEST WORK AND INSPIRING ME TO THINK ‘OUTSIDE THE BOX’. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME AND FOR CONSIDERING ME A QUALIFIED CANDIDATE TO YOUR OFFICE. TALA HIDAYAH • • • • •

given the project is fully integrated, considerations including architecture, civil, structures, mechanical, electrical and interior engineering were taken into account. not to mention that a fully examined fire strategy, infection control plan, sustainable design and therapeutic elements were designed based on a BIM plan that satisfied all involved parties.

following the contemporary biomimetic style of architecture, the building envelope of the hive seeks solutions resembling nature-like structures, i.e. beehive. this naturally occuring structure made up of small hexagonal shapes that aims to create a shelter and a working space, which was thus translated into a manmade idea to provide a brief place of sanctuary and a space of care, a hospital.

• student nest •
A detailed design scheme and analysis of a structure that aims to function and stand as a ‘student nest’ for Cardiff University students, located on the Queen’s Building campus in the welsh capital, Cardiff - UK. The main purpose of such a building is to provide a luxurious leisured space in which students can relax, study and enjoy services that can only be provided by the institute. The project focuses on the detailing of the design planned and scheme chosen, in which spatial demands and considerations, site investigation, structural analysis, building services, materials, maintenance, operation, future flexibility, and costing are studied.
