SATORN CENTRAL PIER The project learning objectives are to study the impact of site and human activities on architectural design; to understand quality and quantity of space for public uses; to analyze and translate the users’ behaviors into architectural design; and to study structure, details, and material uses related to program in architectural design. This Satorn pier is one of the important nodes of transportation on Chao Praya River. It is a central pier station which connects to the mass transit system, BTS at Taksin station, and is near by Silom area, a CBD of Bangkok. The Satorn pier has several types of passengers come to cross the Chao Praya River everyday. The pier has many existing programs that serve the passengers activities and needs such as small flee market, public motorcycle and rickshaw parking, small retail shops, and tourist information center. The pier design should be related to the programs and solve the problems resulting from the site surroundings. The site and environment setting must be concerned in the design. In addition, the design must address an appropriate structure to the functions

2010 PROJECT 1 FUTURE

LIVING

In architectural history, the issue about ‘Future Living’ has always been one of the most familiar and widely‐taken subject for investigation, no matter where and when. The implication of ‘future’ architecture for many people may be something that is totally avant‐garde: Visionary architects in different periods were responding to the changing of social, technological as well as cultural context.

ACTIVE LIVING

Active is a systems of flexible, non-rigid matter. It’s mean lively and full of ideas. It’s having the power or quality of acting. So the active form should be the strong regular movement of itself like a Movement in musical time. The empty form act here as transformation that change our perception and sensation of interior space and exterior space. The object will be an explosion from starting point creating new space by shooting in every direction. The concept of empty form will eventually bring characteristic for active space represents a continuous path that is interconnected in it is different stages. There have different direction of movement negative and positive space, different scale and link from narrow space to biggest space to make more active feeling. The space considered to be one of encouragement for people in the community on the same surface, harmoniously and congruously.

PART 1: EMPTY FORM EXPERIMENTION Empty Form entails an entirely novel ethics and mode of architectural practice. It is more sustainable than sustainability. Sustainability only demands your design survive for the lifetime of the program and then decompose as quickly as possible. It promotes a life preoccupied with death. Empty Form is life preoccupied with afterlife. You must evaluate every present decision by considering how it will impact future users and future programs. It demands greater responsibility, imagination and accountability in your decisions about design, form, structure, and material. It also ensures that your design will aspire to architecture’s most historic pursuit: permanence.Because of such aspirations, we will ask you to think about what qualities matter to people generally, regardless of programmatic requirements. We provide you a list or a lexicon with some typical slogans that are used to describe contemporary living. instructor :Seadhar Jirawattnotai

ACTIVE

Motivating people to begin and maintain an active way of life.Moving toward an Active lifestyle Motivating people to begin moving is indeed difficult, and keeping them moving

2010 PROJECT 1 FUTURE

LIVING Studio 08 05 10 Model study 1

The group of model come from inspiration from rhythm. first model from wave of movement that staring point creating different level of plane in order of rhythm.this form isn’t clear rhythm it’s could be more clear level by increase height level. the second model it’s develope from first model it’s same problem too because it dosen’t clear rhythm.and the third model it’s different concept I design empty form in different plane by create overhang plane. The shape will be sharp because it does will make the object have a movement.the third model it’s more interesting about overhang plane and have nice circulation in this model.

Studio 11 05 10 Model study 2 Second group of model come from process of first model by make clearly rhythm and in different plane by push the plane downwards and the lift the plane upward to make different level. And design in several form and different direction to provide the opportunity for a more dynamic experience through the space. the first model is very seperate it’s should be connecting all together. The second model is ok but plane in center look strange. And the third model very interesting about pattern of form it’s nice to push the plane down to the ground it’s very nice section in this form.

2010 PROJECT 1 FUTURE

LIVING

Studio 15 05 10 Model study 3 (pinup) the third developments, the concept will eventually bring characteristic for active space represents a continuous path that is interconnected in it is different stages. There have different direction of movement negative and positive space, different scale and link from narrow space to biggest space to make more active feeling. The space considered to be one of encouragement for people in the community on the same surface, harmoniously and congruously. this form have develope by change form from triangle to rectangle to be usefull space.

Studio 25 05 10 Model study 4 after pinup 1, i find site to set house and that i found site on soi charoen nakorn 9 near Watsuwan pier. The site is very interesting because the community in this site is low density and it’s will make people who live in this house have more active as riverside area it’s will movement around the clock. So it’s have interesting viewpoint around site support the shape of house it’s more scenic point and surrounding building is simple building that make the building is look active all the time and do the site model to see effect of building when set house. And the house it’s will come new shape of house for future living and i keep the empty form to play thy different plane in house to make the rythm so i make frame of form to open some space and to cleary what they will be.

2010 PROJECT 1 FUTURE

LIVING Studio 29 05 10 Model study 5 it’s will come new shape of house for future living and i keep the empty form to play thy different plane in house to make the rythm in house by movement of user when they walk up to secondfloor and walk down to fisrt floor and have different direction of void all around the house it’s lead user to see outside in different view .

Studio 02 06 10 Model study 6 this model changable from model 5 in material So model it’s look fit but they didn’t look active and it’s could manage the plan some of toilet it’s not private and after add green space in center of the house tt’s will interesting to linkage that will make the surrounding scenery, andhave to enjoygreen space in center of house.

Studio 29 05 10 Model study 7 (Pinup 2) About the form that represent active, it’s nice model the concept of building is interesting but some of drawing is can’t represent than model try to make weight of line dark or light that’s will make it’s clear about dept of surface. In plan it’s have very nice courtyard in center it’s will be better if I try to link in every room in house to one courtyard to see nice green space and will see the activity movement around house too. It’s hard to manage function in the house some requirement can’t manage in house. Because it forms of building have more void so that space can’t set to bathroom and toilet .Some of space that very closely. And didn’t concentrate about ventilation in house.

Active house follows by different volume to make corner to lead user to see outside in every corner of the house and will led user to move down and go up to do some activity so the make motivated for user to want to change position to do activity and hangout with some interest corner, So many window that provide view in various direction. Each of these interior feature a space with windows that provide visual connections in multiple direction and carefully edit the surrounding scenery, many window can lead user to see outside and enjoy viewpoint around house I learn how to integrate design concept of empty form and functional space for the house and learn about space meaning thoroughly. So the character of the house above mentioned present rhythm and dynamic in different plane different direction is very interesting and idea to led user to see viewpoint outside is suitable for active living but have problem on some angle that can’t usefully

Void

2010 PROJECT 1 FUTURE

LIVING

EVALUATION In this project ,I think the first part about empty form that very interest if you concentrate about empty form that will be space of building in second part sometime A problem has appeared after try to adjust zoning .I think empty form is nice way to design new shape but sometime it’s will hard to relate about function.some requirement can’t manage in house. Because it forms of building have more void so that space can’t set to bathroom and toilet. Some of space that very closely. And didn’t concentrate about ventilation in house. So The solution is try to make some model to increases work to understand about space. So if I make some model that link courtyard to relax zone it’s will be ventilation in house too. It’s will solve problem about gap of space and ventilation that all i learn about empty form to make future living. and try to thing model in section it’s will be nice space if you have nice section.it’s very nice experience about try to thing form before function it’s will be interesting form

Different rotation systems exist through a broad spectrum of games, some having their own unique system, others in a series may change only a little. The objective of the game is to manipulate these tetrominoes, by moving each one sideways and rotating it by 90 degree units, with the aim of creating a horizontal line of blocks without gaps. When such a line is created, itdisappears, and any block above the deleted line will fall. With every ten lines that are cleared, the game enters a new level. As the game progresses, each level causes the tetrominoes to fallfaster, and the game ends when the stack of tetrominoes reaches the top of the playing field and no new tetrominoes are able to enter. instructor : Kisnapol Wattanawanyu

KMUTT INNOPLEX

Written in KMUTT roadmap 2020, the university is aspiring to be one of the world class universities in the area of Science and Technology. Learning Innovation, Research Excellence and Humanization are the three fundamental goals the university determined to put for its Roadmap 2020. When discussing “new approach to learning”, the 4 “Ins” are mentioned; Interaction, Integration, Innovation and Intention. Interaction among students, faculty and KMUTT staffs is a way to share and gain more knowledge. Integration of information from different disciplines could lead to a more applicable knowledge for industries and commercial sectors. R esearch and learning would eventually leads to the third “In” that is Innovation. Last, but not least, Intention is the main driven force for human ambition in learning. With “Intention”, it is most likely that people will be successful in whatever they would like to do. For the second project of this semester, you are asked to design a new learning space and facilities for KMUTT main campus at Bangmod. In designing the new building, you do not only provide a shell to fit all the given programmatic requirements, although it is crucial to take into considerations KMUTT future vision that has written in KMUTT Roadmap 2020. Your task, as an architect, is to devise spaces that would facilitate, or instigate the 4 “Ins” to happen.

The concept of third model is about DNA.

Studio 25 01 11 / 28 01 11 Model study 3-4 develope structure from truss structure to be cantiliver structure to support the active concept to decrese column in building and make building look like flo in to the air.

Studio 18 01 11 Model study 2 PINUP2 the model enough strong for water bottle that show the structure can be support for load. The first model is interesting in term of link visual perception it’s can see view point in two direction and longer view than basic shape and continuous form and the ideas about circulation inside building is nice but try to make floor on model to represent the ramp or step that include in structure. The second model is linkage also linked by create continuous shape make linked line in this site area and make continuous space to sharing experience. The concept of third model is about DNA the loop of architecture is stronger frame structure it’s doesn’t represent dynamic chain of DNA but its will nice if try to make rolling floor on model that will be DNA chain Now the model didn’t show about that represent DNA concept.the concept about active is nice to be revised and do it in detail example it’s will be nice instead of use column it’s will be better if use cantilevers structure So it’s will be active structure than .

So it’s have interesting viewpoint around site support the shape of building is very twist shape it’s more scenic point in different direction to concentrate different view for support approach of learning it’s can see view point in two direction and longer view than basic shape.

NUMBER IN CHINESE CULTURE

2 8

In Chinese culture, certain numbers are believed by some to be auspicious (吉利) or inauspicious (不利) based on the Chinese word that the number name sounds similar to. However some Chinese people regard these beliefs to be superstitions. One of their main Chinese belief is that numbers contribute a lot to their good luck and their happiness in life. Their belief pertaining to a particular number and the luck it may bring affect their behavior and choices in life . Chinese beliefs and culture revolves around getting good vibes or good luck and the pursuit of happiness and long life. In this article, we are going to look at lucky and unlucky numbers in Chinese culture, and the certain meaning of a particular number.

LUCKY NUMBER

LUCKY NUMBER

A lucky number is a number which seems favourable to a person. The Chinese put their trust in them more than anyone else in the world. The number is chosen not only in accordance to numerology but also according to its sound which should rhyme with the good words of Chinese vocabulary. As such, the lucky number is not expected to bring good fortune or luck always but having it brings satisfaction to the person; the belief is that it will always put him at an edge over the others whenever his lucky number appears or is used by him as in money bills, phone numbers or bills, house/apartment numbers or vehicle number plates.

MOD FAB LAB THE WORST CASE?

YAOWARAT

Chinatown Bangkok or Yaowarat was started when King Rama I decided in 1782 to establish the capital on the eastern bank of the Chao Phraya River. The Chinese immigrants who were originally settled in what is now the Grand Palace had to move out to a strip of land two km down the river.Over the years the settlement grew. Today Chinatown Bangkok or Yaowarat covers a square bounded by Phadung Krung Kasem Canal to the east, the Ong Ang Canal to the west, Luang Road to the north and the Chao Phraya River to the south, an area of about 2 sq km.The casual visitor to Chinatown would probably only have the time and energy to cover the main street Yaowarat Road where most of the activities are concentrated. The other road of interest is Rachawong Road which is off Yaowarat Road.Across the road from the train station is Traimit Road where the famous Wat Traimit or Temple of the Golden Buddha stands. This wat houses a 3 m high Buddha made of more than 5 tonnes of gold.Outside the main entrance of Wat Traimit is a traffic island on which stands a huge Chinese arched gate, the Odean Gate, built in 1999 to mark the 72nd birthday of King Bhumipol, the present king. This gate marks the start of Yaowarat Road and the walking tour of the rest of Chinatown. Yaowarat Road, the main street in Chinatown Bangkok, was built in the reign of King Rama V. The crowded street winds through the bustling heart of Chinatown like a mythical dragon rearing its head at the Odean Gate, an auspicious sign to the residents. Traveling to Chinatown became more convenient, business picked up rapidly and Yaowarat soon became the city's first commercial district. It still does brisk trade today.Shop signs in both Thai and Chinese give the visitor a clear indication that he's in Chinatown. The street is lined with ubiquitous goldsmith shops, sharksfin and birds nest restaurants, shops and vendors selling Chinese herbal medicine, dried mushrooms, salted fish, roast, Chinese calendars, almanacs and of course, lottery tickets. The avid bargain hunter would have a ball a time browsing through the shops and stalls.

In Submerged case, The whole town of Yaowarat sank into two meter plus deep water. Our vision is to place the new city in between the two side of Yaowarat road that will have many sign board. It’s will be the place that people can come to meet ,eat, share together. So when Yaowarat have been flood it’s will delete the boudary line of walkway and road it’s will be the waterscape instead.also the vendors selling it’s will gone. So,It’s will be the combine function with believe and activity together to make new city with belive in submerged case. ”

The Cause of Crazing

CRAZING

is a network of fine cracks on the surface of a material.

uncontrollable Beauty

Crazing is a fault of glazed ceramic. Characterised as a spider web pattern of cracks penetrating the glaze it is caused by tensile stresses greater than the glaze is able to withstand.

Because the clay and glaze of a piece have different chemical compositions, they respond differently when heated in the fire of a kiln. Both clay and glaze will expand under heat, but they do so at different rates. They also contract when cooled, again, at different rates. If the rates of contraction are too different, and the glaze contracts more than the clay, the glaze will crack under the tension. Most crazing occurs after the final firing of a piece, when the piece has cooled. Some crazing occurs at other times, during thermal stress or if the pottery is left exposed to extremely cold weather.
