ell Hello. I’m pleased to introduce myself and my work, to you. This portfolio is a sample of the three most recent studio projects produced during my Graduate studies in Architecture at the University of Calgary. The purpose of this collection of images is to showcase my design sensibility and communicate my wide-ranging skillset. One skill that is difficult to communicate in images only, however, is collaboration and teamwork. The idea of the architect as a hermit in a cave, a lone creative genious working at his drafting board a tired paradigm. For me, architecture, design and construction are more of a symphony than a solo performance. This attitude, for me, has developed through a combination of my academic and working experiences. Team work in the service industry is imperitive. Team work in school was mandatory. Team work in Professional Architecture is success. Credit is due to both Sarah Bramley and Dominique Peters, my studios 5 & 6 partners, respectively. We really pushed eachother to new be as creative as possible while maintaining a sense of responsibility to the context and parameters of each site. Thank you, for taking the time to peek at this small collection and getting to know me through my work. If your curiosity is peaked, and you would liketo see more, please visit my website, blog, or connect with me through social media.

WOVEN INFILL
the objective of this studio was to develop a system that responds to environmental RESPONSIVE ARCHITECTURE STUDIO conditions to help better integrate the home site | Calgary inner city infill - Bankview Community into the built and natural envonronments.
the woven shell of pipes that enclose this house actually store water. The water is then pumped through the structure to heat the water by capitalizing on solar heat gain. the pipes also respond to sunlight by expanding into a canopy to shade the otherwise glass structure.

Sited adjacent to the geographic centre of the “eixample” plan in Barcelona, Spain, on Avenue Diagonal, the boundary between a historic neighborhood and an up-and-coming area “22@” [Poblenou] . While recent developments have seen decaying textile factories replaced by high-rise single use developments, this building integrates itself into the urban fabric by providing an intense mix of uses that include highdensity social housing for seniors and orphans as well as facilities for multidisciplinary arts programs. Public spaces and residential spaces are connected by a simple network of ramps, which provide access to pedestrians, cyclists and wheelchair users alike. The ramp was inspired by the public share program BiCiNg.The provides the opportunity for interaction with the architecture through physical activity and promotes the health and well-being of the residents and interaction with the larger community and the rest of the city. The shifting stacked masses maximize sun exposure provides an outdoor terrace for every second floor. The ‘canyon’ is really a courtyard that allows for visual and social interaction. The street interface occurs through a ground-floor market, cafe and gallery along diagonal.

the institute for metropolitan transformation is a multi-use arts facility that seeks to promote an understanding of the city through arts and culture. the program, form, and site strategy are intended to establish a connection between the site’s beltline neighbourhood and the downtown core to the north.
PARTI MODEL
the program is arranged based upon a hierarchy of public-private, with most programmatic spaces addressing both the “front” (the street) and “back” (the CPR train tracks & downtown) of its site. the public program includes a bookstore, art gallery, theatre, and a full-service restaurant. the institute also features research and support spaces, including offices, conference rooms, and a library. the form and visual aesthetic of the building are based upon the idea of “post-industrial ruin,” making reference to the history of the site and its location on the CPR line. raised on a plinth and featuring facades with unique personalities, the institute seeks to create a 21st century streetscape and transform the urban fabric of its 10th avenue location.

PAINTINGS INSPIRED BY BARCELONA
A
city like Barcelona is has just about everything going for it. I was captivated by the buildings (old and new), charmed by the aromas of the tapas
bars and wooed by the bouquets of vino tinto. But more than any of that, more than Miro, Picasso & Gaudi, I was mezmorized by the kaleidoscope of people engaging in some of the most interesting and thoughtful public spaces I have ever experienced. The City is dense. Private outdoor amenity space is a luxury few can afford. Instead, people spend their outdoor life in public. This fascinated me. The City served as my muse and the people my unknowing models. Needless to say, it has had an effect on my own sensibilities and will continue to inspire the way I design and produce art. Barcelona’s motto has become my own - “P’osta Guapa” - Catalan for
“make it beautiful”.
