London 1818: a secret love affair begins between 23 year-old English poet, John Keats (Ben Whishaw), and the girl next door, Fanny Brawne (Abbie Cornish), an out-spoken student of high fashion. This unlikely pair begins at odds, he thinking her a stylish minx, while she was unimpressed not only by his poetry but also by literature in general. However, when Fanny hears that Keats is nursing his seriously ill younger brother, her efforts to help touch Keats and when she asks him to teach her about poetry he agrees. The poetry soon becomes a romantic remedy that works not only to sort their differences, but also to fuel an impassioned love affair. When Fanny’s alarmed mother and Keats’ best friend finally awake to their attachment, the relationship has an unstoppable momentum. Intensely and helplessly absorbed in each other, the young lovers are swept deeply into powerful new sensations.

Queen Elizabeth School Easter Concert
This has to be the greatest musical of all time. It is known by everybody and is suitable for all ages. QES is renowned for its school productions and this year is no exception. Set in 1930s Austria, the story of the arrival of a young nun, Maria, into the cold, gloomy Von Trapp household sets the scene for the musical. Maria and the children begin to liven up the surroundings, much to the disapproval of Captain Von Trapp and his friends. Eventually love blossoms for the unlikely couple and under the storm clouds of war they make their escape to freedom. This piece of musical theatre will be performed by our students from Years 9 to 13 and is directed by Mr Lee Fleming with musical direction by Mrs Jen Hartley.
10 Robin Hood – a Pantomime Proceeds towards the Kirkby Lonsdale Institute and Kirkby Lonsdale Play Partnership. From a previous Kirkby Irregulars production
A chance to hear some of QES’s biggest and best music ensembles performing at this end of term feast of music. Guaranteed to feature a wide range of musical styles and groupings of instrumental and vocal music. You’ll certainly find something that you really enjoy.

Reviews The Geoff Eales Trio I really enjoyed the concert that the Geoff Eales Trio put on. My favourite type of music is Jazz. I loved his style of playing and they were all amazing. At the end of his concert I bought a CD of his music, because I enjoyed it so much. I even got Geoff ’s autograph. Jess Wood, QES 8K
London Gypsy Orchestra On Monday 2nd November members of the choir went to Settlebeck High School where we started to learn some songs in foreign Languages. We learnt songs in Bulgarian and Romanian. It was different to be working with students from another school but we made a good choir together. We rehearsed every day that week with two sessions at Settlebeck and two at QES.

On Friday 6th we went to Ulverston Coronation Hall, where we had a two-hour rehearsal with the whole orchestra. At 7pm the doors opened to the public. For the first half of the performance we sat in the audience and listened to the London Gypsy Orchestra. Just before the break we had to go and stand at the side of the stage and sing the last two songs of the first half. After the break we went up on to the main stage we started with the song Posadila Baba, which included some Bulgarian shouts. We finished with the encore, which only had words for the verses. A good time was had by everyone. Emma Hopkins, QES 9S
