If you are an apple owner (iPhone, Mac, etc..) you have probably already downloaded IOS8. IOS8 brings so many new features to our hands. I downloaded some of the apps and used some of the

photos Photos. They have changed your photo album so that all of your pictures will be easy to find. Giving you the option to name them and also using the location the picture was taken at, which is very handy. They have added a bunch of new features that allow you to edit your pictures without having to download different apps to do it or waiting to upload them to a computer with photoshop. The only thing you need to lookout for is that they added a recently deleted album, so if you don't want a picture on your phone, be sure to delete it from your albums and then the recently deleted album.

messages They did make some changes to the messaging as well. It nearly makes it seem android-like with the little bar above the keyboard that tells you what you should say next. To remove that just touch one of the words and scroll it down, this should get it out of your way. There are also a couple other keyboards that you can download but they permanently have the bar above the keyboard.

continuity Now you're iPhone, Mac, and iPad can be connected like never before. They have added apps such as iMovie and Garage Band to your iPhone to give you creativity on the go. If you're feeling creative and aren't around your Mac, no need to worry because you now have those apps on your phone. If you have an epiphany and know exactly what you need to do to a song or video you were making the night before on your Mac you can make those edits on your iPhone or iPad with Handoff. This allows us to share work between devices, which is pretty cool. Along with being able to do that you can send text messages, Facetime, and even answer calls from your Mac and iPad, if your phone isn't on hand.

health A new health app has been added. Step counters such as the Nike Fuelband or Garmin VivoFit have become very popular so Apple decided to add an app that does basically the same thing. It keeps track of your steps, calories, walking distance, sleep, and much more. If you're looking for something to keep you in shape this app is it!

That moment when you're walking and your phone slips out of your pocket and then it's like everything happens in slow motion: your phone spins, turns, and does amazing stunts finally hitting the concrete floor. It feels like the end of the world when you pick it up, only to find out that your phone screen now has a million cracks across the screen that was once without a scratch

Loooknthe CRACKED Side

Replacing technology such as iPhones, Galaxies, iPods etc. can take so much time and effort and a whole lot of money that some just don't have time for, so look at this way: the spider-web-like patterns are kind of cool and creative. The different patterns and cracked lines going into different directions on the screen gives it a harder way to see everything on the screen of course, but at the same time we can think like an optimist and look on the bright side of the situation...Well I mean on the cracked side according to this situation. Instead of getting upset with yourself for not being careful, add some color into it and give it a rainbow-life pattern like many have before or just begin looking at it as cool different shaped designs across the marble screen.

yessica ramirez

Sarah Jannadi, a freshmen Biology major, stated "I was getting out of my car and my phone fell! At first I was shocked and mad but then it seemed kind of cool and spidery looking." The Biology major later got a new one with a clean unscratched marble screen. "I now keep it held tightly in my hand as I'm getting out of a car," she aid with a laugh. Agreeing with Sarah, there is also Sara Sprinkle, a freshmen Nursing major who had said that, "I personally don't have a cracked phone but I've seen people that once had a perfectly conditioned phone then dropped it and broke the screen and sort of just added a little color and or changed the wallpaper to make it more artsy and cool."

Different from Sarah, there are some like Justice Robinson, a freshmen nursing major, who absolutely hates having a cracked screen. "It just makes it harder to type and it's just plain annoying when the screen isn't as sensitive as before and you have to keep tapping at the keyboard," she says as she looks at her screen with about a million little cracks on it. (If you don't like the way it looks, you can get your phone fixed at Celltech Cellular Repair located on 544 Westport Rd, Kansas City, MO 64111.) It just depends on the person how they look at their cracked phone. Either in a way where it's sort of artsy or just a plain ole broken phone.

From as long as you can remember, you've been told that if you nurture your talents, you'll never work a day in your life because you'd be in a career doing what you love. How many people have you run into that are actually living that tale? I happen to have been very lucky and caught up with the Missouri Mavericks hockey team's Public Relations & Communications Manager, Madeleine Stroth, and got a little taste of what pursuing your dreams can do for you. If you don't know, the Missouri Mavericks will be competing in their 6th season in the Central Hockey League with their 2014-15 campaign. The Mavs have made the playoffs in each of their first five seasons, including winning the 2014 Bud Poile Governor's Cup, capping off a season of franchise record regular-season wins (44). "Creativity is an essential part of my job with the Missouri Mavericks. Outside of developing eye-catching graphics for MissouriMavericks.com and our social media platforms (Facebook/Twitter), it is extremely vital that I work with my team to continuously seek new ways of engaging our target audience. A big focus for me as the Public Relations & Communications Manager for the Mavericks is policing our brand and tailoring our brand message to different audiences. Creativity is key when structuring numerous campaigns throughout the season to keep things fresh with consideration to both content and platform." Being in media is no easy task. You have GOT to keep up with the trends and be open to change or get left behind! "In an industry that is constantly introducing new ways to interact with and reach fans, staying current in trends and creatively implementing new tools into your campaigns is vital. (i.e. using SnapChat to give fans an insider perspective or live-streaming an interview using Google Hangouts.)" Get hip or get left! You can't be creative with a closed minded way of thinking. Social media is taking this generation by storm and if you want to reach your audience (us), you'll have the best luck by grabbing our attention through an app or site. "I use creativity every day in my position, whether it is creating a graphic or advertisement for an upcoming event, writing a press release, or brainstorming a promotion, there is always a need for new ideas." Who said your passion can't be your job? And who said passionately working in the field you love is unheard of? One thing I love about creativity is that you set boundaries, and then break them into your own molded artwork.

Creativity drives one's resourcefulness, invention, imagination, critical thinking, and ethics which are all important aspects for problem solving in society. Everyone is capable of creativity, yet many are unaware and it remains untapped. Creativity is so important that many employers look for it as an attribute when seeking potential employees. Students thrive when creativity is awakened so why is creativity not essential in our learning environment? I had the pleasure of taking a course that would become one of my most challenging, memorable, and applicable courses taken since beginning my endeavors with Avila University; Art, Advertising, and Hip Hop. In the class, we made up a Hip Hop persona and had to become that character, dropping several bars (rap versus for the lyrically challenged). We were introduced to different cultures through outings across our city and we applied our underst anding through demonstration. The lessons taught by Dr. J. Anthony Snorgrass and Professor Marci Aylward enhanced the expression, creativity, and understanding for the students. By the end of this class we were aware of how the worlds of Hip Hop, advertising, and art could come together collectively across ethnicities and make a harmonious difference on society as a whole. Lecture is great, regurgitation of literature we deal with, the creativity of applying the knowledge gained in the classroom to society, priceless. This is dedicated to Dr. Joseph Snorgrass and Professor Marci Aylward of Avila's beloved Visual and Communication Arts Program. Keep up the creativity!

So many times we sit down wanting to make something completely original, something so earth-shatteringly creative, but end up just disappointing ourselves. Here are 5 ways to never let that happen again.

1.

Change up your environment! Go somewhere new when you create. Taking a trip to different part of town and physically being in a different place can change your mood, thought process, and ideas.

2. 3.

4.

Relax and get comfortable. When you're in a physically comfortable environment, you think more clearly and have a better attitude, letting ideas flow more quickly. Sit down with your favorite cup of coffee and listen to your favorite music as you create.

Don't psych yourself out when trying to be creative! The stress that comes along with trying to top past ideas only inhibits the creative process. The strain you place upon yourself to "BE CREATIVE NOW" blocks the free-flow of thought.

5.

Turn off your computer and your phone. Stop surfing through the internet for more ideas. Stop watching more movies or YouTube videos. Stop reading one more click-bait article. Don't read one more tweet or status. Keep those pesky notifications and novelty media out of reach to give you room to focus on creating.

Write down a list of things you love. Get involved and really dig deep, describing the images, colors, sounds, and words of your favorite things. Create something that emphasizes that favorite thing or feeling.

Social media has brought an entirely different aspect to the way we think about everything. With much of everyone's web experience becoming personalized to their social media, there becomes little need for outside news sources. You choose the information you receive by which people and boards you follow, who you friend, or what channels you subscribe to. You personalize the entire experience.

With all the tools made available to anyone with a mobile device, a new age of journalism has risen and it has fallen into the hands of the citizens. Enabling people to publish and share information to the entire world with just the click of a button, journalism is more embedded in the community than ever before. Reporter's roles are diminished as citizens contribute more and more information. Bloggers are now news sources for some and news that happened seconds ago can be shared with the entire world in one tweet. The role of a reporter has changed and no area is affected like sports reporting.

Sports reporting is an area in which for years was dominated by writers who got to state their opinion. They wrote stories and they were published. Many people would like the opinion of the writer, and many would not. This is not the case with the emergence of social media. Readers can state their opinion and make points to improve conversation on topics that were once one-sided. This has caused journalists to give up editorial control of their stories. Stories have become an ever evolving conversation amongst the public. Journalist cannot determine the final direction of their stories like they once were able to. Their role is lessened and Rather than seeing just the information that is reported, readers can now access the opinions of everyone who has felt the need to share. Information is abundant and flows freely through social media sources to reach more people than ever before. In a time where almost everyone has the ability to share news in seconds, where is the need for a reporter? Where is the need of a reporter when the person next to you has the capability of capturing a breaking story with one reach into their pocket? Perhaps there is no place for a reporter in today's social media driven world or perhaps reporters are still needed to spark and help drive the conversations in the community. People are always going to crave the story and most don't care who finds it. So are reporters still relevant? Yes, but they no longer need a degree in ournalism to share their story. Kelby Phelps

Vanilla ice cream, glazed donuts and cheesecake these are all classic, timeless desserts. Put the vanilla ice cream between two cookies and it's an ice cream sandwich. Blend the donut with a croissant and it's a cronut, mix the cheesecake with a cupcake and it's a cheesecake cupcake. These are all desserts that are simply just twists on a classic, they are new ideas. Today the ice cream sandwich seems to be a rising trend. The ice cream sandwich is a dessert that can be manipulated in a variety of ways regarding flavors, the possibilities are endless which is important when it comes to innovation and staying current. A current flavor trend for fall is pumpkin spice, which is not just in coffee anymore. People can find it in ice cream, cookies, bagels and even beer. Another trend that seems to be on the rise is the macaron not to be confused with the macaroon which is a totally different dessert. The macaron is French, meringue based sandwich cookie filled with butter cream or jam,

usually seen in bright colors. Macarons can be found in a local bakery specifically at 3 Women and an Oven, the co-owner Jayne Torline says her favorite trend is the "French macaron done right". Being able to observe in their kitchen and trying a macaron, they definitely did it right. Jayne says their bakery does "from scratch baking". She also believes that working with scratch made desserts and with realingredients is a trend that will last. Jayne says, "It's important to people to use local ingredients and fresh ingredients, slow made is more important to people". Some people don't care about sprinkles or glitter on a cupcake, they want something that's at least semi-healthy or gluten-free which is another trend. The ice cream sandwich, pumpkin spice, and macarons are just a few trends that are becoming more popular, but another dessert that's been the trendiest since 2007 is the infamous cupcake. People may think that its long run of popularity is over, but not quite yet. Becca Moyer, an employee at Gigi's Cupcakes says "The cupcake trend is staying successful, it hasn't died out". Again the cupcake is a dessert that can be manipulated in tons of ways which is so important to keeping a dessert trendy and current. Innovations to any classic dessert will grab people's attention; it's up to the innovator to keep it trendy.

First year Head Coach Anthony Boyer has accumulated a great deal of talent for the first year of the program. With 13 student-athletes preparing to compete this year, the anticipation is growing to see the program in its first year. Boyer was the head assistant coach of the men's and women's cross country and track & field at William Woods University in Fulton, Missouri. This year he comes to Avila with NCAA Division I experience. As a student-athlete at UMKC, Boyer not only competed on the Track & Field team but was a standout. He set records for both the 400-meter hurdles and the 110-meter hurdles, but his accomplishments didn’t stop there. He was also named the Summit League Co-athlete of the year in 2010 and the Summit League Indoor Championship Track MVP. With a successful athletic career under his belt, Coach Boyer is excited to bring the same success with him to Avila, only now as the Head Coach of the program.

Creativity infiltrates so many aspects of college life whether academics, clubs, or in this case, athletics. At the start of the 2014-2015 academic year, Avila University was proud to announce the inaugural year of the Varsity Men's and Women's Track & Field team. Interest in the program has been building among current and perspective student-athletes alike. One challenge the team will have to overcome for the first year track program is the lack of on-campus facilities, specifically an outdoor track. One of the hardest parts of developing any new sports program is getting the same equipment and facilities as the competing schools. It's difficult to provideeverything necessary for a first year program, the lack of an on-campus outdoor track however seems to be the only hiccup in what appears to be a program with the talent and coaching they need to compete at a high level.

10 ways to get your creative juices flowing

1.Go somewhere- Changing our current environment and breaking the routine is the quickest and most effective way to activate new parts of your brain. 2.Exercise- According to Psychology Today, "the creative process springs as much from the subconscious as it does from a conscious thought process. Most often, creative solutions are not wrestled from your mind through sheer force of will. Eureka moments tend to occur spontaneously, almost always when the conscious mind is thinking of something else, or nothing at all." Exercise allows you get your mind off the task at hand. 3.Write it down- Keeping track of our thoughts can help us develop our ideas further, by allowing us to return to it at a later time and build on top of it.

4.Be a copy cat!- "Good artists copy, great artists steal", Pablo Picasso 5.Connect the dots- some of our best work is a result of connecting complete opposites 6.Ask- Don't be afraid to share your ideas before they are complete- a different perspective could be exactly what you need! 7.Let the no's motivate you- creativity is an intimate process and rejection can knock you down and keep you down if you let it- GET BACK UP- Nobody else has your voice, your mind, or your vision and it needs to be heard! 8.Know that bad days happen- Writers block doesn't discriminateyou're bound to have highs and lows- make sure you work hard during the highs. 9.Get enough sleep- Making sure your brain and body gets the rest it needs is crucial for creative intelligence. 10.Start- starting is the hardest part. No first draft is perfect! Remember, it takes dozens of revisions to form a good idea, and hundreds of revisions to create a brilliant idea.

"The 1-0. Hit hard, deep to right. It's a long one and it is gone! Home run Oscar Taveras! How about that for a debut?" said Cardinal announcer Rick Horton. As quickly as St. Louis Cardinal 22-year-old prospect's career started, it came to a sudden end. On the night of October 26 and Game Five of the World Series, Major League Baseball lost one of its brightest stars, Oscar Taveras Taveras was driving with girlfriend, Edilia Arvelo, in his native Dominican Republic when the couple died in a car accident. Taveras was one of the most promising prospects in all of baseball and was said to be a future middle-of-the-order hitter with skills similar to that of Vladimir Guerrero. Taveras was a once in a generation type of player who was on the cusp of stardom.

Cardinal Nation is devastated with the rest of the nation. Oscar Taveras was a kid that always had a smile on his face and was a big part of the St. Louis Cardinals future. Taveras was the prized player in the Cardinals organization ever since he signed with them for just $145,000 in 2008. At 16 years old, he jumped through the Cardinals minor league system at a rapid pace, and in 2011 he won MVP for Double-A Springfield, hitting .321 with 23 homeruns and 94 RBIs when he was just 20 years old. When he got the call-up to come to the St. Louis Cardinals in 2014, the entire fan base was buzzing.

He showed flashes of brilliance in his rookie season and finished the year batting .239 with 8 doubles, 3 homeruns and 22 RBIs. Taveras had his biggest moment of the year when he hit a homerun off of Jean Machi of the San Francisco Giants to help the Cardinals win their last game of the season in the NLCS. Taveras and his potential will forever go untapped. He was a man that lived for the big moment and will be missed by many. A dear friend of Taveras, Xavier Scruggs said, "A moment too big for most was just an opportunity for Oscar to show the world his talent...So many people are affected by this loss; however we need to rejoice in the fact that Oscar was even in our lives" Although Oscar Taveras was only here for a short period of time, his impact is immense. A career and a life that we will never know how great it could have been. He will never be forgotten by his fans, his friends, his teammates, and his family.

Creativity never

Goes Out of

Another problem has risen in the NFL. Apparently, being the most successful sport in the U.S. has its drawbacks when it comes to promoting one brand's product over a competitor's product. Bose is the official brand of headphones for the NFL. The coaches have to wear Bose headphones on the sidelines because NFL has an agreement with Bose to promote their product over any competitors. This means that during a game, or after, a player or coach may not wear any headphones besides Bose. If you can't wear Bose out there, then don't wear anything at all. This is the motherly advice that Colin Kaepernick should have taken before he wore Dr. Dre's Beats headphones in a post-game press conference. Or wait... maybe he struck gold. According to Front Row Analytics, Colin Kaepernick gave Beats Audio $2.14 million of advertising because of that post game press conference. He did get fined $10,000, but Apple (Beats Audio's owner) could pick up the tab right? Kaepernick just gave Apple a huge amount of advertising at a massively discounted price; I would think that he would shoot Apple an email about maybe getting some compensation or something; as if they hadn't heard the news already.

It seems that Kaepernick and the NFL have their own agendas to uphold. The NFL seems to be trying to uphold their agreement with Bose, but Kaepernick clearly wants to be a spokesperson for Beats. This clashing of interest goes back further than the Kaepernick-Beats problem. In the 80's the NBA fined Michael Jordan for wearing his new Air Jordans because they did not line up with the color regulations for the game

we got the beats shoes at the time. Back in those days, the NBA players wore their basketball shoes with one base color, usually white, with an accent color on the trim, and the logo. The NBA fined Jordan $5,000 every time he wore his colorful shoes. This wasn't necessarily a bad thing for Jordan though; his shoe line is one of the most successful in the business and has made him,

and Nike, a lot of money. Perhaps the NBA outlawing his Air Jordans drew more attention to them and made them more desirable. Could the idea of violating rules by wearing certain brands be used as a marketing strategy? In a single post-game interview Kaepernick gave $2.14 million of free advertising to Apple for their Beats headphones; that is huge! It has worked in the past for Michael Jordan with Nike's Air Jordans, its currently working for Beats Audio and it will work for any other company that has a product they can not only get in the hands of professional athletes, but make it a product that these athletes actually want to use. What professional athletes wear before, during, and after games is what young athletes want to wear. If the NFL players where Beats, the fans want to wear Beats. If one brand is banned from being seen on camera and a player wears it anyway, it automatically increases desire for that product. Shawn Bryant, who used to be an NBA marketing executive, said it best, "There is a component here where if you're told you can't do it, it becomes a little more appealing to the consumers." These players who wear these outlawed products are the "bad boys' or rebels so to speak and for whatever reason, people are naturally attracted to that image. People want it for themselves and if they feel like they are getting that image from a product, then that product is gold. Let this be a lesson in marketing to everyone. This type of advertising, though very risky, has been proven to work more than once.

If you haven't been to or driven past Union station, you might want to take a trip down there. for one it is thier centennial celebration, which means union station has been in Kansas city for 100 hundred years! I had the opprotunity to go down to union station and i wasn't dissapointed, although it was at 6;30 in the morning to drop my parents of, just there sheer beauty of it caught my eye. I mean the work that went into building this place and the history. all over union station are artifacts and photos taking you back in time to when union station was the in and out of KC...literally. My favorite part about visiting there was sitting on the benchs that were the same benches that were used when union station was first opened. just sitting on that and thinking of all the history and people that made their way through that vast hall is so facinating. if you are ever in downtown and happen to be near Union station i suggest that you pull in and just walk around. right now they are having their 100 year history exhibit with a free, permanent, culturally diverse exhibit of union station. you won't be dissapointed... colbi howser

Always October nic yonter

For over a month, the entire city of Kansas City was blue. It seemed as if every person and business was in support of the Kansas City Royals, who made their first appearance in the Postseason since 1985. 1985. That’s longer than most of the students at Avila have been alive. But this year, a team of young prospects grew up in a big way and gave the city of Kansas City something to believe in. Once the Royals capped off their 89-73 regular season, they had to play on the last day of September to have the opportunity to play in October. The Oakland Athletics stood in their way in the one wild card game that would take place in Kansas City based on the Royals finishing one game better than the Athletics in the regular season. As soon as the game started, the Athletics were in complete control of the game and built a commanding 7-3 lead when they scored 5 runs in the top of sixth inning. But the Royals did something in the bottom of the eighth that made their season go from a good season, to starting one of the greatest postseason runs in the history of the game. Kansas City scored three to bring the game within one and then tied the game up in the bottom of the ninth. Kauffman Stadium was absolutely buzzing. With all of the momentum the Royals way, the Athletics tacked on a run in the top of the twelfth that seem to be the decider. But these Royals were not giving up and scored two in the bottom of the inning to walk off into October. Salvador Perez was the hero and the Royals stole seven bases that tied a postseason record and sent the 40,502 fans home excited to see what October would bring.

That is when the Royals went on an unbelievable run. They swept the team that had arguably the best offense in the game, the Los Angeles Angels, in three games winning 3-2 (in 11 innings), 4-1 (in 11 innings), and 8-3. Then they went on to sweep the Baltimore Orioles in four straight games by the scores of 8-6 (in 10 innings), 6-4, 2-1, and 2-1. The extra inning warriors were heading to the World Series and would have home field advantage because In Game One, the Royals ran into the buzzsaw that was Madison Bumgarner as the Giants took the first game by a score of 7-1. In Game Two, the young firearm of Yordano Ventura led the Royals to tie the series by winning 7-2. Game Three would head off to San Francisco as the Royals took it 3-2. The Giants would come back in Game Four to even the series as they picked up the 11-4 victory. Game Five would have Bumgarner returning to the mound and leading his Giants to win 5-0. The series shifted back to Kansas City for Game Six as Ventura shut the door on the Giants by leading the Royals to a 10-0 win and forcing a Game Seven. This game would be an instant classic as the Giants won 3-2 and took their third title in five years. Bumgarner

would enter this game as a reliever and would win World Series MVP. Alex Gordon would give the Royals a bit of life as he hit a triple in the bottom of the ninth with two outs, but was stranded 90 feet away. The Royals had a magical season and the entire town was behind the team. Many fans have been yearning for a season like this and were granted that. Playing in October shut down the city for most of the month, as the city was tuned in to watch their Royals. An unbelievable season was capped off by the Royals having the best winning percentage of any World Series runner-up as they were 11-4 with a .733 win percentage.

Although our boys in blue didn't end up taking the crown, i think this city and every city in the United States, besides San francisco is pretty amazed on how far we got. I mean it's been 29 years people and out of no where we made into the world sereies. Would wining the world sereies be an amazing feat, of course, but just seeing our boys out there wearing the world series patch and seeing how this city has come alive in just a couple of weeks is mind blowing. billy butler said it best at the season celebration that was thrown the day after game seven, "I couldn't be more honored to be a part of this organization." to me, organization stands for not only the Royals players, and everyone that is involved with the team, organization means the fans, the dedicated fans that tailgated and went to the games not only during the playoffs and world series, but also during the regular season. The fans that sat patiently in the long lines of power and Light District and area bars around KC to get in. We as an organization lifted this city from what I call, "The slump". We should all be proud of how well our royals did and how much they and this city have accomplished. I can say, that i have never been more proud to be a kansas citian. Go Royals!

The FIFA World Cup is the most watched sporting event in the world. The Cup's final game is the single most viewed sporting event on earth. This event has been going on every four years since 1930. For the first time in the Cup's history, FIFA is allowing artificial turf to be used during the Women's World Cup, taking place in Canada next year.

Many athletes and soccer players have expressed their disapproval of using the artificial turf. Many of the women participating in the Cup think it's gender discrimination. The players sent a letter to the Canadian Soccer Association and FIFA trying to negotiate with them about the fields.

" S S m d p c

C o w A i k r a m T T t G t y p " s w s m A p t " " a h N c if f

"The best players in the world deserve premier playing surfaces. Simply put, artificial turf is not a premier surface in the soccer world. Singling out this women's tournament for substandard treatment is a mistake. "If your organizations will not engage in a meaningful dialogue on how to correct the discriminatory treatment of women players, we are prepared to pursue legal action which we are confident should succeed," the letter stated.

CSA and FIFA never responded to the letter. Because of this, a group of over 40 of the top women's soccer players from across the world have sued the Canadian Soccer Association and FIFA. Artificial turf has been blamed for increased injuries on the field, including sprained ankles, concussions, turf burns, and an injury known as "turf toe." The American Academy of Neurology recently reported that concussions appear to be more prevalent for certain athletes playing on artificial turf, and that women athletes appear more likely to experience concussions in soccer than in other sports. Temperatures on the turf can be much hotter than on natural grass. Turf also alters the speed of the ball, and the speed of play on the field. Grass seems to be the better choice. Men have never had to play the World Cup on artificial turf, and probably won't for many, many years to come. And unfortunately, the gender discrimination seems pretty clear. "If the men's World Cup didn't allow it, and they built brand new stadiums...not even put in grass fields, they built brand new stadiums with a couple billion dollars," United States National women's soccer player Alex Morgan said, "you'd think we're worth the couple million to put in grass fields." Along with Alex Morgan, United States National Woman's soccer player Abby Wambach has been leading the movement, and has become the speaker for all athletes. "Even if this World Cup doesn't get changed over to grass," she said, "I want to make sure that we're loud enough and we get heard by all the countries with women fighting this fight, so that it never happens again." Neither CSA or FIFA have given any indication that they're going to change the artificial turf to grass. Everyone seems to agree that if this was a men's world cup, this wouldn't happen. It's not only a fight for women, it's a fight for what is right.

How I Plan to Change the

World

madi johnson

Through the idea of humanism (belief that human interests and mind are more important than anything else) I plan to change the world by reaching out to the public and spreading the news in the world of sports. I want to be able to create awareness of all of the events taking place in the United States and eventually, I'd like to be able to broadcastsporting events all over the world. Sports play a huge role in the life of Americans as well as internationally, and I would love to be able to play in the part in this process. In the meantime, I will also be doing what I love. And really, I couldn't ask for more.

Unfortunately, a vast majority of men and women today are not following their dreams as a pathway into their career choices. It has become all about the paycheck, and less about a life filled with passion. I feel strongly that the idea of meliorism (the belief that the world tends to become better) is greatly supported when a generation is following their passions. I want to be an example of a man who will not quit until he reaches the goal set before him. That is why I am where I am, that is why I will not stop until my goal is attained, and that is how I will change the world.

How I would go about a change is getting people to appreciate everyday life and staying positive even in the worst situations. There's negativity all around, but there are positives in every situation. The first way to go about it is getting people away from phone, TV, computer screens and appreciating what the reality is in front of them.

dr. snorgrass's introduction to journalism class gives us an insight on how they will one day change the world.

My words will be my power. I want my writing to change the world. I want my writing to impact others and to make people think. To make people feel things that they didn't think they could feel. My words will be my mark on the world. So, my name is Erin Casey Lee and someday, I am going to change the world. Steve Jobs once said, "The ones who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do." Think I'm crazy enough?

My desire for becoming a coach comes from the thought that I too could help change or alter the future of a kid's life, for the better. Teaching kids respect, hard work, dedication, how to face adversity, passion, and how to translate these lessons learned to everyday life, is how I plan to help change the world.

I want to change the world because now we have enough technology to live a better life every day. Technology may be used in various ways, so why don't we use it to improve our lives and by improving our lives our world is improved as well.
