Not
much of a big deal
This exhibition relies on the term translated from Japanese as “mono no aware”. It includes; “the empathy towards things”, sentimentality and the sadness of the fugitiveness of things. This is why the pictures we share on instagram is important to us. So the only material of this exhibition is insta.
We decided to start this exhibition at our very own home, breaking the so-called boundaries of our private life, to share the things that we mentally make a big deal of but not physically.
This exhibition has two parts in it. After we exhibit our photographs at home, we take our guests to a local pub in Arnavutkoy, which has a family album in it, which makes up the second part of this exhibition. It has our non-extended Instagram pictures in it for the exhibition visitors. Planning this exhibition, we aimed to be mobile because it is important to us to mix the notions of “public space” and “private space” politically and individually. We used a manual way to show the appreciation to the photographs that have been exhibited. We gave our visitors blue stickers to “like” the photographs. In this way we maintained the tradition of Instagram and this booklet includes the most “liked” photographs by the visitors during the exhibition.
Dilara Gostulupce, Erdem Onel, Sevinc Calhanoglu, Hazal Paftali, Bercin Uluz and Sezen Turkmen have contributed to this exhibition with their photographs. They are all part of an art project called “Ucodabirsalon” (the term “uc oda bir salon” is used in Turkish to describe large houses and its room in it) , which the artists aim to pursue in future exhibitions. 17.01.14 - Arnavutköy
