THE MARKET FLOATING HOUSE CONTAINER HOME MULTI UNIT
Hungarian girl with a lovely name, who has always been dreaming to explore the space beyond. That’s probably why she decided to pack her suitcase and move to Florida in 2018 after obtaining Bachelor’s degree in Architecture in Hungary. Even though her dad had been living in Florida for almost 22 years already, starting a new life from scratch was intimidating and challenging at the beginning. However, she managed to start working for Millwork Company and quickly became the main designer of the team. Working for a company with supportive team members and exciting luxury design projects is satisfying, however, she decided that it’s already time to dive into the field of Architecture more and work hard for academic advancements. After getting approval from World Education Services on her Hungarian diploma, she is ready take another step towards her goal and apply for master’s studies. She believes in persistency, consistency and hard work.

01 THE MARKET
LIGHT STRUCTURE FOR MARKET PLACE Pannonhalma is a town in western Hungary with approximately 4,000 inhabitants. The town`s touristic charm relies in the Archabbey and the surrounding lavender fields. Local population prefers to use bicycle, public transportation or go by walk. The Pannonhalma market is a community space which gives home to vendors with permanent and temporary rented spaces, local farmers, performers with small audience, and visitors who interested in them. To avoid the hall-like nature, a combination of covered and open space had to be created on a narrow plot, serving the specified needs that the market should be able to accommodate. It facilitates the following: vendor buildings, office building, gathering area, restrooms, storages, mushroom examiner lot, parking lots, garbage storage and maintenance room. The initial step in the design phase was the roof structure that gave the market its characteristic. From the start, the presence of roofing elements bouncing in space remained the only fixed point in the design, which tries to respond to the heights of the surrounding houses. The area is bordered by the main road, 2 dirt roads and an empty plot. I made the buildings accessible from all four sides. Eight small trucks, eight cars and fifteen bicycles were provided with parking, which is the required minimum, but the open-air market`s plot can function as an additional parking space.
Market sales can take place both indoors and outdoors. With the exception of vendors occupying space in masonry structures (approximately eleven units available for rent), I would leave 32 m2 of portable

sales space in the covered area. The permanent premises would include shops for everyday needs, such as: butcher and fishmonger, vegetable shop, fruit shop, dairy products shop, pickle shop, baker, florist and
newsagent. In the small producer markets, the locals and people from the surrounding villages would sell their home-grown goods and handicrafts on the announced market days.

Once the local vendor has rented his plot in the office, he can immediately move out to the selected portable desks. All local vendor spots are made up of mobile structures, making the space suitable for small crowd, with a conjunctive point in the middle of the market. The community space can be

filled with chairs and benches which they can keep in the storage. Longitudinal traffic is interrupted by a community point in the middle of the market, giving a big breath between the spaces. There would be a tall tree in the center, which is also the

02 FLOATING HOUSE LIVING OVER WATER
IJburg is an urban development district in the eastern part of Amsterdam. Once the project is complete, it will comprise around 18,000 homes. IJburg is located and is being built in the IJsselmeer. This means that the existing natural functions and requirements of the water system needed to be taken into consideration in the realisation of the district. The district seeks to realise natural values, an extraordinarily high density of 71 homes per hectare on average, preservation of the quality of the water in the IJsselmeer, as well high aesthetic appeal. Water can be experienced almost everywhere on the artificial islands: along the edges of the islands of course, but also near almost every single home at the middle of the islands, because of the waterways. The IJsselmeer is a Natura 2000 area. Its shallow, sheltered, nutrient-rich character and the abundance of crustaceans and water plants make the area attractive for waterfowl. Around 100 species of birds are found in the IJsselmeer, a number of which are protected. Although IJburg itself is situated just outside the protected zone, the construction of the new islands must be conducted in such a manner that they do not have any significant impact on the protected area. Creating islands proved to be a better solution than draining land, both for environmental reasons and in terms of the quality of life.
Situation
12
The water system for the first phase of IJburg is unlike the water systems in other land reclamation projects in the IJsselmeer: it was decided that IJburg would be raised rather than drained. This
extraordinary ap- the quality of the proach to land surrounding wareclamation was ter. chosen because of, among other reasons, the standstill principle, which states that the creation of new land areas may not impact

03 CONTAINER HOME LIVING IN A CONTAINER
Győr is the most advanced city in its region, and it has great connections to Budapest (Hungary) and Vienna (Austria). From my lecturer, I got the task to place down a mobile home in the downtown area. In the area there are many bars, an opera house, a basilica, a small zoo, hundreds of small businesses and it is bordered by the Raba river. I positioned my house on top of a storage building due to a lack of space. I got the idea to use shipping containers from my previous semester. After I located my chosen site, I found the right sized (W 2,6m x H 2,6m x D 5,2m) containers. In my original 2015 plans, I had the vision that the containers could move their position and change the layout. After I revised my old plans, I realized that it was an unnecessary and expensive function. I still find the moving house idea fascinating, but I decided to present it in a fixed position.
From the family description, we can find out that the mother would like to have a garden, hence I planted some on the rooftop. The full house on the first level couldn’t fit on the site, so
Situation
18
I created a second level, which made looking over the city partially possible. The family was very happy about the view and they requested balconies.
19
Visualization The minimalist living space design is quite simple. The 10 containers provide a space big enough to use standard furniture, reducing additional costs. After we take the stairs
20
from the sidewalk we arrive at the covered main entrance`s terrace. On the lower level we find the foyer, a restroom, dining room, living room with a fireplace, kitchen and storage. The stair-
case brings us up to the second floor where we can find the aisleway, 3 bedrooms, a bathroom and 2 balconies.

04 MULTI UNIT
STUDIOS FOR STARTERS Győr is the most developed city of northwest Hungary. It is halfway between Budapest and Vienna, situated on one of the important roads of Central Europe. It is the sixth-largest city in Hungary (population 130 000) and one of its seven main regional centers. The site, Malomsok setany, is located 15 minutes away from the Szechenyi Istvan University by walk. I deemed that it`s a perfect spot for a young adult to start his/her career because the important institutions and the downtown is in the neighborhood. The outer structure is separate from the inner buildings. The transparent surface case function is to provide shelter from strong wind, sunlight, and snow while it lets the nature and natural light inside. The inner buildings are hosting the following: wash-room, maintenance room, storage for bicycles and other items, dumpster, restrooms, office spaces with chamber and tea kitchen, community room with kitchen, a guest studio apartment, 9 studios on the upper level, terraces and a garden house outside. There is a parking lot in front of the main entrance.
My goal with the design was to create a space where nature and humans can live in close connection. The roof and the second level flooring have transparent elements. Also, there

26
are breakthrough points in the slab to provide direct light to the lower level. I dispersed 11 green areas in the building and a greenhouse outside for those who love gardening. My idea was
to build a community instead of spreading the studios all across the site.

Each of the studios has a 36 m2 area, which is a small living space. On the other hand, the residents can use a wide variety of communal places like the offices to work and study, the community room to invite friends, or the covered summer patio to hang out with other residents. The building has 2 main entrances and 3 to the backyard.
There is plenty of space to grow in the future, according to the resident’s needs.
