HIFF 2021 HELLO AGAIN!!! It’s been a while and we’ve missed you. Good news, things are opening, up, and Film Circuit is coming back after staff shortages. To celebrate, we’ve curated a Virtual Haliburton International Film Festival. Yes, it is that time of year. Cozy sweaters, dark evenings, hunting season, clocks falling back all remind us it’s time to gather to watch films that open our hearts and imaginations while taking us around the world. According to our recent audience survey, for which 200 people responded, the answer was – YES, we want to come back, just not yet. So a Virtual film festival seems to be the appropriate way for HIFF 2021. We’ve picked a line-up mainly from TIFF 2020 and 2021 and you can stream them on Crave, Amazon Prime, and Netflix. Most streaming services offer 30 days free if you don’t already have them. And don’t be dismayed if you can’t find some of the titles when you search them as we even had difficulties with Quebexit. Put them on your Watch List once you find them for easy retrieval. We also kept our choices as upbeat as possible! The program is posted below, on Facebook (HIFF Haliburton International Film Festival & Dock Day) and on our website www.haliburton-movies.com

Let’s talk about the movies! (pretend we are standing in the lobby) 1) We will have intro videos posted on website and Facebook, as well as videos to watch after the movie (interviews with director/cast) 2) Type your comments on Facebook HIFF Haliburton International Film Festival & Dock Day 3) join us for a few zoom chats! Line-Up FRIDAY NOVEMBER 5th QUEBEXIT (Amazon PRIME) Original Languages: English, French, Cree Genre: Comedy Running Time: 80 Year: 2020

Following in the footsteps of My Internship in Canada, Joshua Demers’s new Canadian political satire asks: what might happen if Quebec were to declare its independence? Set over the course of a couple of days on a patch of land at the Quebec-New Brunswick border, French and Canadian military — formerly colleagues, and still waiting for their paychecks — fight over who has the right to police the border. Meanwhile, a pair of Indigenous women who regularly cross the border for work must deal with this new bureaucratic nonsense caused by settlers fighting over land that doesn’t belong to them. The film includes dialogue in French, English, and Cree, both celebrating our country’s language diversity and poking fun at the divisions it causes.

ANOTHER ROUND (CRAVE) Original Languages: Danish Genre: Drama, Comedy Running Time: 116 Year: 2020 WINNER BEST FOREIGN FILM 2021

There is a theory that man is born with half a per mille too little. That alcohol in the blood opens the mind to the outside world, problems seem smaller and creativity increases. We know it well; after the first glass of wine, the conversation lifts, the possibilities open up. Martin is a high school teacher. He feels old and tired. His students and their parents want him terminated to increase their average. Encouraged by the per mille theory, Martin and his three colleagues throw themselves into an experiment to maintain a constant alcohol impact in everyday life. If Churchill won World War II in a dense fog of spirits, what could the strong drops do for them and their students?
