Transfer Student Testimonials Being a transfer student at Texas A&M San Antonio has changed me for the better. People always said you will meet your closest friends in college and I can now say that I have. It’s like an extended family I have here with the transfer student engagement office. The whole office should know how much they mean to every single one of us. From the time I have transferred to now I have created memories and friends that will last a lifetime. Without the transfer student organization, I don’t think I would have gotten the college experience I always dreamed of. - Gabby Villegas
Being a transfer student is an interesting experience to say the least. When transferring to A&M San-Antonio I didn't feel like I was alone. The transfer engagement on campus showed me what it means to have a family at school. I feel connected with the place I go to school now, I am a part of several different orgs. on-campus one of which being the Silver Liners mentorship program for transfer students. Transfer engagement improved my overall transition into a new university and now I am thriving and enjoying my time at A&M San-Antonio.
- Michael Walik
"One of the best memories I have from being engaged on campus definitely has to be transfer week! One of the perks about attending events on campus is that you get to meet other students that are just like you!" -Stephanie Martinez

Why Mentoring Matters Why does mentoring matter? Mentoring matters because it makes you better, having a mentor will only enhance your experience here on this campus. A mentor can be a compass of sorts to help you find your direction not just in the day to day but your life and career goals as well. A mentor can be a role model accountability coach, friend, a friendly ear or a shoulder to cry on, they can really be whatever you need them to be. Mentors help us see things from alternate perspectives they can lift you up on a down day and bring you back down to earth when you get lost in clouds. Your mentor doesn’t have to be a professor or a staff member, they can be younger than you, identify different than you, have a different major or career, does it help if they do sure but it’s not a requirement. The only real requirements is that they have your best interest at heart are ready to point you in the right direction and most importantly they’re AVAILABLE for you. Once you find your mentor it’s important that you are mentorable as your participation in the relationship is just as important be vulnerable, honest and open to new ideas.

Transfer Engagement & Advocacy Mentors T
E
A M
T.E.A.M. Summary The Transfer Engagement & Advocacy Mentorship (T.E.A.M.) Program was designed to prioritize the success of transfer students’ academic health. The program pairs transfer students in a Mentor/Mentee relationship in which the interaction provides accountability, interpersonal relationship building, and support for both. The main role of the Mentor would be a case manager connecting the student with resources, identifying gaps in support, and playing a small role in the communication with the professors of the students. The main role of the Mentee is to provide information regarding the progress of their classes, identify and discuss any obstacles they encounter, attend programming events tailored to transfer students’ needs, and finally to incorporate their knowledge from these things into their academic journey through persistence to ensure academic success.

Transfer Student Testimonials My experience as a transfer student has helped me become more confident. I feel like I was able to find a group of people I can connect with so being on this campus makes me feel comfortable and supported. I appreciate all the transfer events we are able to attend so I can continue to meet more people and get engaged on campus. -Demi Villereal
As more time passes and I go through this journey I cannot express how much the transfer team has done for me. Without the transfer team, I don’t think I would have found my way through college and found the people I want in my corner forever. Thank you to the transfer office for giving me a reason to continue my education and find my people along the way. - Rosa Barajas
Being a transfer student that is also an adult learner was really daunting for me at first. But from the first moment I stepped on campus all that uncertainty was completely washed away. The programs and support that are in place really give us all a chance to connect. We are a family. - Cat Naranjo
