If you applied as an incoming freshman or a transfer student and have since attended another institution, we need those transcripts to verify your GPA before an admission decision can be made based on your new application.
What do I need to do once I’m admitted? COMPLETE THE FOLLOWING STEPS THROUGH MYLEO:
LOAN: Money that is borrowed and must be paid back
1. Submit your campus housing application and fee.
WORK STUDY: A program enabling students to work part time on campus while attending college
2. Upload your proof of bacterial meningitis compliance form before your New Student Orientation (if under 22).
SCHOLARSHIP: A grant or payment made to support a student’s education based on achievement
3. Register for New Student Orientation prior to the start of term. Participation is required for all new students.
How am I classified if I have less than 12 transferable hours? If you have less than 12 transferable hours or you are a high school student with college credit (no matter how many dual-credit hours), you are still considered a freshman and must follow the freshman application procedures.
Can I take or complete my degree at one of the off-site locations? Though many courses and degrees are offered at our off-site locations, please contact the specific location or visit tamuc.edu/locations to confirm which courses are available.
How are transfer credits evaluated? Credits are assessed by the Office of Admissions and may be reviewed by department heads or deans. Only collegelevel courses with a grade of “D” or better will transfer. Courses with grades below “C” may not count toward your major. Transferable credits will be awarded upon completion of an evaluation.

1889 William Leonidas Mayo establishes East Texas Normal College in Cooper, Texas.
1919 A student suggested the name “Lions” as a team mascot. Before then, we were known as the “Normalites.” 35
1926 Ferguson Social Sciences Building was completed and is the oldest building on campus.

The original campus building in Cooper was destroyed by fire.

The Heritage House was built and served for 41 years as the president’s home.
The tune of “Corrine” was adopted as our fight song.
President Mayo purchased four acres in Commerce, Texas.
1959 National fraternities were invited to campus.
1917 1907 College Hall (pictured left), the first building constructed on the new campus in 1895, burned.

A fire destroyed three of the four buildings on campus with only the administration building surviving.
President Mayo died the day his college became a state institution. His gravesite is located on campus.

After a threat of potential closure, a unanimous decision was made to keep the university open.
The Centennial Mace becomes part of the University graduation ceremony.
The Lucky Lion Hand Sign is introduced.
