While at the Island University, Francesca Picarazzi has been able to conduct research at the world-renowned Conrad Blucher Institute for Surveying and Science (CBI) at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. Her research has earned her various honors including the “Most Innovative with the Greatest Potential for Impact” Award from the University’s Honors Program for her poster presentation on the “Texas Coastal Winds” mobile application. She also received the top award at the 12th annual Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Undergraduate Research Symposium. “My research at the CBI has been an incredible supplement to my education at the University,” she said. Picarazzi, who is earning a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science with emphasis in Systems Programming, is working alongside Dr. Philippe Tissot, Associate Director of the CBI.

She started her journey by being part of a team that developed the “Transit Time!” app, which allows for safer and more effective navigation along the Houston/ Galveston Ship Channel. She then led the development of the “Texas Coastal Winds” app, which visualizes wind speeds along the Texas Coast, and is now available on Google Play. “During my time at the Island University, I have acquired valuable experience with many technologies that I might not have had the opportunity to work with otherwise,” she said.
