Together with the community, the University has experienced unprecedented growth in each of these areas over the course of 2016. As the immediate Past President and CEO of this great University, I am proud to reflect on all that has been accomplished during my last year. FOUNDATION PRESIDENT PROFILE: PHILIP C. SKROBARCZYK As president of the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Foundation, Philip C. Skrobarczyk, owner of Fulton*Coastcon General Contractors, has taken a hands-on leadership approach to providing scholarship dollars, which are critical to attracting top students to the Island University. While he believes the University is unique due to its location on its own island, he also knows it is unique in its approach to higher education. Physically, Fulton*Coastcon also leaves a lasting impression on the University, as it leads the construction project of Tidal Hall, the new life sciences and engineering building. Mirroring Skrobarczyk’s personal values, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Foundation’s mission is to promote the growth, quality and effectiveness of Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. The Foundation now manages a portfolio of more than $40 million. These funds have allowed for significant contributions to the development of the Corpus Christi campus—funding scholarships, scientific research, chairs and professorships, construction projects and improvements in classroom technology.

CORPUS CHRISTI TYPE A FUNDS MAKE A DIFFERENCE FOR ISLAND UNIVERSITY Over the years, the City of Corpus Christi has proven the importance of our mutual relationship by investing time and resources towards the Island University’s growth, with the most recent investment coming in the form of $2 million in Type A funds. The funds, which were approved in early September, will be used to pursue a Bachelor of Science in both Civil and Industrial Engineering. The University is currently seeking approval from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board for both programs. Most of the new Type A funds will provide students with stateof-the-art lab equipment which will create the backbone for a civil engineering program. The rest of the funds will be used to purchase cutting-edge modeling software. Dr. L.D. Chen, Associate Dean for Research and Director of the School of Engineering and Computing Sciences at Texas A&M UniversityCorpus Christi, explains that civil and industrial engineering are the missing foundational engineering pieces to the University’s degree offerings, which already include mechanical and electrical engineering. All four engineering degrees are interrelated and interconnected, meaning a student must know how each discipline works together.
Type A funds will ensure students in each of the concentrations will gain knowledge and opportunity for practical application.
“We are committed to our students’ success,” said Chen. “It is very important that our students do more than learn the material, they must learn how to collaborate with each other. For example, a mechanical engineer can build a drone, but the electrical engineer powers it.” The benefits of each engineering degree are plentiful. Type A funds will ensure students in each of the concentrations will gain knowledge and opportunity for practical application. Type A funds, which are generated from a Business and Job Development Fund sales tax, are designed to produce a skilled and educated workforce who can positively impact the Coastal Bend economy. Since 2009, the University has received $5.1 million in Type A funds to support the expansion of a mechanical and electrical engineering degree while also completing much-needed updates to research labs. The Type A funds also assisted in the purchase of the Coastal Bend Business Innovation Center. The Business Innovation Center is also home to the Lone Star UAS Center of Excellence & Innovation at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The center is one of only six centers in the nation to be recognized by the FAA.

ISLANDER STUDENT LEADS INITIATIVE TO ADD ISLAND UNIVERSITY TO ‘LAS BOTAS DE MERCEDES’ COLLECTION Katarina Chapa, a junior biomedical science major, has learned that hard work and taking chances can lead to unexpected success. Chapa says her time at the Island University has expanded her potential in endless ways. Along with being accepted into Sigma Alpha Pi, the local chapter of the National Society of Leadership and Success, she also spearheaded a fundraising campaign to add Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi to the “Las Botas de Mercedes” boot sculpture collection in Mercedes, Texas. Unveiled to the public in a formal ceremony in October, the statue is located in front of the Hector P. Garcia Memorial Library in Mercedes, which is located about 150 miles south of Corpus Christi, in the Rio Grande Valley.

To raise the necessary funds, Chapa worked with Texas A&M UniversityCorpus Christi officials and set up a GoFundMe account that received $950 in donations. Dr. Trent Hill, Vice President for Institutional Advancement at the Island University, matched the donated money, and together with $500 in donations from Mercedes officials, the $2,400 needed for the boot was raised. “Las Botas de Mercedes” are a part of a special tradition in Mercedes in which high school graduates take a photo standing near the boot that represents their future college. Chapa, who grew up in the city of Weslaco, but went to high school in Mercedes, came to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi after touring many colleges. “None of the other universities had the same feeling as A&M-Corpus Christi,” said Chapa. “They were all either too big or too small. The Island University had everything I wanted. Everyone here was so kind and welcoming, and as soon as I got here, I knew it was the college for me.” After graduation, Chapa plans to attend medical school at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.

CONHS Orientation Welcomes First Class of DNP Students to the Island University
The College of Nursing and Health Sciences (CONHS) was pleased to welcome its newest graduate students during their graduate student orientation held on Aug. 20, which also included the first cohort of students entering the new Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program.

We have worked very hard on this program and are excited to have such a strong group of students,” said Yolanda Keys, Graduate Department Chair and DNP Coordinator. “The potential for these nurses to improve the health of South Texas is what is driving all of us to have a strong DNP program.”
Amy Thornberry, another DNP student attending the orientation, felt similarly. “I knew this new program was coming,” she said. “I knew they had been working on it for a couple of years and I told myself, ‘I’m going to be in the first class.’”
The new program focuses on helping DNP students take existing research and put it into practice. This allows the Island University to assist in closing the almost ten-year lag that can exist from research appearing in an academic journal to its results in the patient care setting. Students at the orientation shared their excitement about being part of the first class for the new DNP program.
Throughout the orientation, students were introduced to the campus and many of its resources, such as Blackboard, the Mary and Jeff Bell Library and the CASA Writing Center. There were also presentations on graduate-level writing and distance learning strategies. Students also had the opportunity to have lunch with the nursing faculty, allowing them to become more familiar with their future professors. Such in–person meetings were especially meaningful because both the Master of Science in Nursing and DNP degrees are offered exclusively online.
“It feels awesome to be a part of this program,” said Ashley Hughes. “As soon as I heard that Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi had been

GROWTH Second Phase of Momentum Village Housing Helps Prepare for Enrollment Increase The Momentum Phase II construction is the latest addition to the University’s Momentum Campus. Momentum Campus includes the first phase of Momentum Village student housing, which opened in August 2015, the Dugan Family Soccer and Track Stadium, and the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center and recreational sports fields. The Island University is preparing for continued increases in student enrollment. Enrollment has increased 21 percent in the past five years, including a 19 percent growth in freshmen and sophomores since 2011.
New ‘Tidal Hall’ to Offer Enhanced Research Opportunities For Students
With the addition of these new buildings, the Island University will have 2,832 total residential units for students.
Elected officials, along with community and campus leaders, attended the Sept. 6 groundbreaking ceremony of Tidal Hall, the new Life Science and Engineering building, which will be placed next to the Early Childhood Development Center near the first entrance to campus.
In April, the Texas A&M University System Board of Regents granted Past President Flavius Killebrew authority to negotiate and execute a lease for the second phase of housing.
The three-story building will support two of the Island University’s fastest-growing programs, life sciences and engineering. Tidal Hall will include six new instructional labs, 34 research labs, as well as faculty office space.
The new housing, which will feature townhome and apartment-style living, will offer 560 additional beds, bringing the total number of residents in the entire complex to 1,042 students. American Campus Communities is the developer for the $35 million project, which is scheduled for completion by fall 2017.
The new office space will allow the University to repurpose the space within the Engineering Building for expansion of electrical and mechanical engineering programs.
The University provides students living at Momentum Village with free shuttle service to the main campus throughout the day.
Approval for Tidal Hall came from the Texas A&M University System Board of Regents in September 2015. The Island University was appropriated $60,000,000 for the construction of the building. Anticipated completion of the project is July 2018. The name, announced at the State of the University Luncheon, was chosen through an online contest, which was open to Islander students, faculty, staff and alumni. Garrett Arnett, a sophomore environmental science major, submitted the winning name.

SCHOLARSHIPS New PlainsCapital Bank Endowed Scholarship Assists A&M-Corpus Christi Finance Majors PlainsCapital Bank pledged $100,000 for student scholarships at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi during a grand opening event for their regional headquarters in Corpus Christi on Feb. 4, 2016. The generous donation will create the PlainsCapital Bank Endowed Scholarship in Finance for students studying finance in the University’s College of Business. “We are excited to have this new partnership with PlainsCapital Bank,” said Dr. Flavius Killebrew, Past President and CEO of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. “Endowed scholarships such as this one give us a steady stream of funding to recognize students’ outstanding performance and exceptional potential and keep a college education affordable.”
New Islander Venture Fund Supports Student Entrepreneurs

Two startup companies led by Island University students received $10,000 to continue their business plans from the newly established Islander Venture Fund.
“We are excited about supporting the University,” Hastings said. “PlainsCapital Bank is committed to the community and this donation shows that support.”
Derek Drozd received $7,500 to continue development of an online platform called The Mobile Fitness Network, that enables the everyday individual to book in-home training from a qualified fitness professional at an affordable price.
PlainsCapital Bank is the sixth-largest Texasheadquartered bank and operates more than 60 Texas branches with more than 1,200 employees. The bank entered the Corpus Christi market in 2013.
Shelby Polasek and Vanessa Galindo received $2,500 for their product, The Quick Clip Reminder, a universal seat belt attachment which allows users to record messages that will automatically play back once the seatbelt is unbuckled. The Islander Venture Fund was established by Charles and Martha DeCou, who wanted to specifically support students with innovative thinking and great ideas for new products. The DeCous selected the fund recipients after hearing them pitch their plans. “The Venture Fund investment is the next step in the process to support student entrepreneurial activities,” said Dr. John Gamble, Dean of the College of Business. It is by no means the last step, either, Gamble said. Students will receive support and guidance from the College’s faculty with entrepreneurial expertise.

GRANTS Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Partners with Del Mar College for $788K Unmanned Aircraft System Grant
Professor of Geospatial Surveying Engineering and Geographic Information Science (GISc) at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, and Co-Primary Investigator for the grant proposal, will assist with developing the curriculum and engaging participants in relevant research and internship opportunities.
The Unmanned Aircraft Systems Technology Educational Consortium, made up of Del Mar College and the Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Lone Star Unmanned Aircraft Systems Center of Excellence and Innovation, recently received a $788,000 National Science Foundation Advanced Technological Education grant to develop and implement a UAS education program.
The grant will run through June 2019 and foster articulation agreements between the Island University and Del Mar College. The program will enable Del Mar’s Geographical Information Science students to apply earned credits from the program toward the pursuit of either a Bachelor of Science in GISc or a Bachelor of Applied Science in Digital Information Mapping at A&M-Corpus Christi.
The new program will be offered at Del Mar College and will include classes in UAS and Remote Sensing. Classes will instruct students in drone technology, their use for mapping and other applications, safety for flight operations and federal regulations. Dr. Michael Starek, Assistant
$681K Grant Provides Island University with New Scientific Research Tool
College of Nursing and Health Sciences Receives $2.6 Million Grant for Full-Ride Student Scholarships
Researchers in the College of Science and Engineering (COSE) at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi recently received $681,415 from a National Science Foundation Major Research Instrumentation grant.
The College of Nursing and Health Sciences (CONHS) at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi is now able to give full-ride scholarships to select students thanks to a $649,224 per year grant, which will total $2.6 million over the next four years, from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). The college received this grant after Dr. Mary Jane Hamilton, Dean of the CONHS, submitted a 50-page proposal to HRSA.
The funding will be used to purchase a high accuracy/ high resolution Orbitrap Hybrid Mass Spectrometry system, which will be equipped with an Ultra Performance Liquid Chromatogram. The new mass spectrometer will be the crowning jewel to what the COSE will call their “Analytical Core Facility Lab.” The lab will allow the Island University to conduct complex research projects completely in-house and without having the expense of sending samples to a larger lab.
This grant will provide 71 scholarships for disadvantaged students each year for the next four years to full-time students who display financial need. The students will receive $9,144 each year to cover tuition, uniforms, educational materials, clinical supplies and books.
The addition of this state-of-the-art piece of equipment will also allow Island University researchers to separate and identify molecular compounds that are too small to see with the human eye.

This HRSA grant will also allow the CONHS to graduate more registered nurses who will then go on to work in medically underserved areas in the Coastal Bend and fulfill a rapidly expanding community need.

Island University Part of First-Ever NASA Drone Traffic Management Testing In April, the Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Lone Star Unmanned Aircraft Systems Center participated in the largest test yet of NASA’s UAS traffic management (UTM) research platform. The test included 22 unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), commonly called drones, that were remotely flown simultaneously at six Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) UAS test sites around the country. Using the UTM platform, engineers at NASA’s Ames Research Center in Moffett Field, California, monitored the flights remotely from the six test sites. The purpose of this test was for operators from all six FAA test sites to interact with the UTM research platform at geographically diverse locations. Rural and within line-of-sight UAS operations were tested using various aircraft and different software clients to assist NASA, in collaboration with the FAA, in obtaining information to further develop UAS research.

RESEARCH FUNDING A&M-Corpus Christi Partners with Scotland on Marine Research Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi researchers recently visited Scotland to take part in a Global Marine Sustainability Workshop. The three-day workshop was co-organized by the NSF-funded Research Coordination Network CE3SAR, the Harte Research Institute for Gulf of Mexico Studies (HRI) and the Scottish Association for Marine Science (SAMS) at the University of Highlands and Islands (UHI). During the workshop, Dr. Luis Cifuentes, Vice President for Research, Commercialization and Outreach at the Island University and principal investigator of the NSF project and Professor Ian Bryden, Vice-Principal of Research at UHI, signed a statement of their institutions’ commitment to future collaboration. Like HRI, the mission of SAMS is to deliver world-class marine science that supports society with innovative solutions to developing a sustainable relationship with the marine environment.
Island University Uses Autonomous Underwater Vehicle to Research Red Tide
With similarities between SAMS and HRI, this collaboration could increase international research and study abroad opportunities for A&M-Corpus Christi students.
Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi students and faculty are working to improve the health of the Gulf Coast by researching marine environments and their harmful algal blooms. Students of the Marine Biology and Coastal and Marine System Science programs are taking full advantage of an otherwise negative environmental event, red tide, and collecting samples using a high-tech research tool called the EcoMapper. The EcoMapper Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) is a torpedo-shaped system which scans the water to generate data. The EcoMapper can scale the surface of the water or it can travel depths and distances, and is programmed through satellite and geographical coordinates. Although the AUV was first introduced at the Island University as a tool to research water quality, campus researchers hope the EcoMapper can also assist with predicting the location and persistence of future red tide blooms.

UNIVERSITY NEWS A&M-Corpus Christi Online Masters in Kinesiology Ranked on ‘Top Ten’ List Affordability, flexibility and academic prestige are the three qualities that put the Master of Science (MS) in Kinesiology online program at Texas A&M UniversityCorpus Christi at number nine on the “Top 10 Best Online Masters in Kinesiology Degree Program” list, distributed by SportsManagementDegreeHub.com. Housed within the College of Education and Human Development, the online MS in Kinesiology is a relatively new addition to the Island University’s growing portfolio of web-based offerings. The fully online 36-credit hour program sets the groundwork for a career in biomechanics, exercise physiology, leadership/management of sport, motor performance, nutrition, assessment of sport performance, sport psychology, professional coaching and strength and conditioning. The Island University is one of only 11 institutions in the world whose educational program in Strength and Conditioning is recognized by the National Strength and Conditioning Association at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Island University Reaches Momentous Enrollment Milestone of 12,202 Students Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi is delighted to announce a fall 2016 enrollment of 12,202 students. The number includes undergraduate, graduate and doctoral students. The increase in enrollment aligns with the University’s Momentum 20/20 objective of reaching 15,000 students by the year 2020.
The 12,000th student was Angelique Flores-Cano, who intends to earn a Master of Science in Educational Administration. She is a current teacher in the Corpus Christi Independent School District. Momentum 20/20 is a strategic plan created in collaboration with faculty, staff, students, alumni and community members to boost the Island University to an Emerging Research University, thereby giving the University access to incentive funding from the Texas Legislature. Official enrollment numbers for fall 2015 were 11,661.

UNIVERSITY NEWS Island University Innovation Center Helps Veteran’s ‘Reboot’ Outlook on Career Opportunities and Small Business To assist those who have bravely served our country in building the foundation for a better future, the Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Coastal Bend Business Innovation Center (CBBIC) launched its first-ever “Veteran’s Small Business Week.” Teaming up with the United States Small Business Administration (SBA), the multi-day event was held Monday, Oct. 31 through Friday, Nov. 4. The event came after the initiation of a Strategic Alliance Memorandum (SAM) in September between the CBBIC and SBA intended to strengthen and expand small business development for local veterans. During the week, the CBBIC encouraged veterans to learn first-hand what opportunities are available by hosting several informative sessions including “Funding for Veterans” and a free “Boots to Business Reboot” workshop. Islander Alumna Recognized by State, Excels in Education Cynthia “Cindy” Hopkins has been on the forefront of science education for more than a decade. As a science teacher at Kaffie Middle School in the Corpus Christi Independent School District (CCISD), she finds her passion by inspiring her students to dream big.
Participants were also able to attend a “Funding for Veterans” panel that explained financial assistance opportunities, how to understand subsequent growth and its expected challenges, and an open house that provided education on resources and networking opportunities.
Hopkins, working concurrently to earn a Doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction and a Superintendent Certification at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, has won awards from CCISD, Texas Regional Collaborative, was a semi-finalist for an H-E-B Excellence in Education Award and even won an award for her education research. After receiving a teaching certification, Hopkins then went on to pursue her Master of Science in Curriculum and Instruction and a Master of Science in Educational Administration at the Island University. Hopkins has strived to collaborate with educators and colleagues to construct the most efficient teaching methods for STEM education across the state.

SPEAKERS & VISITORS Art Museum of South Texas Hosts Largest Exhibition in Museum History Featuring Dorothy Hood The newest exhibition at the Art Museum of South Texas (AMST), “The Color of Being/El Color del Ser: Dorothy Hood (1918-2000)” is the first major retrospective to document and celebrate the vibrant career of early Texas Modernist Dorothy Hood.

Presidential Medal of Freedom Recipient and Educational Equality Activist Speaks at Island University In October, Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi hosted Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient Sylvia Mendez, who gave an account of her personal history and the importance of a good education.

SPEAKERS & VISITORS Visiting Artist, TAMU-CC Students Work Together to Create Immersive Sculptural Experience The biblical story of Jonah and the Whale was the inspiration for an art installation at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi held in fall 2016. The installation, titled “A Message for Ninevah,� was created by visiting artist Jason Hackenwerth, who is known internationally for his unique and inspiring art. The entire sculpture measured 60 feet long and 20 feet wide, taking up almost the entire space in the Weil Gallery. With a metaphorical form of a beached whale, the artist hoped to envoke notions of mortality, transcendence, and rebirth. Hackenwerth says he made the sculpture this large so that the viewer would be required to go inside the installation. In addition to Weil Gallery staff, a select group of Islander art student volunteers were recruited based on their skill level and experience working with installations to assist Hackenwerth in bringing the sculpture together.
Dr. Brian Greene Headlines Distinguished Speaker Series The theory of relativity, quantum mechanics, the universal law of gravity, string theory and the nature of time were just a few of the topics discussed in depth by Dr. Brian Greene, American theoretical physicist and string theorist, who headlined the fall 2016 Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Distinguished Speaker Series on Oct. 18 in the Performing Arts Center. Greene, a Professor of Physics and Mathematics and the Director of the Center for Theoretical Physics at Columbia University, has lectured in more than 30 countries and on all seven continents. Greene has published several books and is lauded with numerous honors. At the end of the event, Dr. Sylvia Earle was announced as the next speaker in the Distinguished Speaker Series, to be held on March 2, 2017. COMMUNITY OUTREACH Islander Student Collects Used Starbucks Coffee Grounds, Turns it into Valuable Campus Resource When life hands Melissa Zamora used coffee grounds, she does the obvious—she composts. Since September she has collected and composted more than 300 gallons of used coffee grounds that have been recycled into nutrient-rich soil for the Islander Gardens at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. Zamora, a senior environmental science major and president of the newly formed Islander Green Team, came up with the idea to collect used coffee grounds from the on-campus Starbucks during her Introduction to Environmental Science class. The soil, or as Zamora affectionately calls it, “black gold,” is packed with nutrients, and composting campus waste has many benefits.
Power On Conference Sparks Music Industry Conversation for Coastal Bend
Zamora continues to collect data on the project, which is currently in its first phase. With the expansion of the project, Zamora hopes to collect food waste from several areas on campus.
Power On Music, a conference featuring panel discussions from Texas music industry leaders and aimed at promoting the importance of the music industry in Texas, was held Oct. 19 in the Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi University Center. Mathew Knowles, father of pop superstar Beyoncé and former manager of Destiny’s Child, was the event’s keynote speaker. Knowles is the president and CEO of MusicWorld Entertainment, a leading music and entertainment conglomerate with record sales exceeding 300 million worldwide. Other speakers included Grammy Award nominee El Dusty and popular Texas Country Music artist Jake Ward. Power On Music was organized by State Rep. Todd Hunter and co-hosted by the Governor’s Texas Music Office, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Del Mar College and the Corpus Christi Convention and Visitors Bureau.

‘Sink Your Shucks’ Oyster Recycling Program Celebrates A Million Pounds of Shells Collected
The oyster recycling program, founded in 2009, was the first in Texas that reclaims oyster shells from restaurants and returns them to local waters, providing the base structures necessary to form new reefs and habitat for sea organisms. With the help of volunteers, “Sink Your Shucks” has restored about 14 acres of oyster reef.
“Sink Your Shucks,” managed by the Harte Research Institute (HRI) for Gulf of Mexico Studies and the College of Science and Engineering (COSE) at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, celebrated its millionth pound of oyster shells rescued from the landfill to be repurposed as productive estuary habitat. To commemorate the occasion, “Sink Your Shucks” organizers, participants and HRI officials gathered at Groomer’s Seafood in Corpus Christi on Aug. 16, to dedicate a new trailer donated by the business to the recycling program.
History Students Create Virtual Tours That Provide Peek at Past And Present of Downtown Corpus Christi
a historical aspect of Corpus Christi that has been selected, researched and designed by graduate students.
Corpus Christi residents and visitors may not be aware of the city’s rich and vibrant history, but thanks to an app created by history graduate students at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, the public can experience history through the Corpus Christi Downtown Walking Tours.
Students used a hands-on approach to apply their research and have gained valuable experience in digital history. Since developing the tours last spring, Brown and her students have received positive feedback.
The idea for the Corpus Christi Downtown Walking Tours app was developed by Dr. Jen Brown, Assistant Professor of History, as a class assignment for graduate students in the history program. Each tour represents

Crutchfield Fellowships This endowment was established with a bequest from John W. Crutchfield to Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, with funds intended for fellowships at the masters and doctoral levels at the Harte Research Institute. In addition to normal educational expenses, the fellowship holder may use funds for purposes (among others) such as travel, workshops, symposia, and the purchase of necessary equipment.
HRI Endowed Chair Coastal and Marine Policy and Law The endowed chair for Coastal and Marine Policy and Law was the first chair created by the Harte Research Institute. The focus is on how marine policies and laws impact humans, as well as understanding how human behavior affects coastal and ocean ecosystems. HRI Endowed Chair Ecosystems Studies and Modeling The endowed chair in Ecosystems Studies and Modeling concentrates on how organisms control and regulate marine ecosystems and coastal environments—research that is critical in guiding resource management decisions concerning the relationship between humans and the environment.
Dr. Joe Frantz Professorship This endowment was established in 1997 with a gift from Margaret Turnball in memory of Dr. Joe Frantz to be used to recognize excellence and originality in the teaching of history. S AND OTHER PROGRAMS HRI Endowed Chair Fisheries and Ocean Health The endowed chair for Fisheries and Ocean Health heads a diverse program that provides scientific data for management of ocean resources. The current focus is on migration of patterns of marine life and the role of estuaries and near-shore waters in sustaining marine populations.
The L.C. Foundation Inc. President’s Fund Endowment This endowment was established in 2010 with a gift from Lena D. Coleman. Funds awarded from this endowment are intended to provide student scholarships, faculty enrichment, and other critical areas of need at the discretion of the University President. Funds are also to be used for numerous annual activities and programs implemented through the President’s office, which further builds upon community engagement.
HRI Endowed Chair Geospatial Science This chair studies the dynamic links between geomorphology, sediments, hydrology, climate, and biology that create the carious environment of coastal zones.
Barbara G. Silverman Professorship in Literacy This Endowment was established in 2014 in memory of Barbara G. Silverman. Funds are used to attract and retain the highest quality faculty in the discipline of literacy for the University.
HRI Endowed Chair Marine Genomics The endowed chair for Marine Genomics researches the evolution of fish genomes and uses genetic molecules to resolve both basic and applied problems involving fish species.
Edwin Singer Presidential Endowment The Edwin Singer Presidential Endowment funds are used at the discretion of the President to support the President’s initiatives.
HRI Endowed Chair Socio-Economics The endowed chair for Socio-Economics seeks to make connections between the natural environment and human well-being that will translate into better decision-making regarding the Gulf of Mexico’s natural assets and the issue of conservation and sustainable growth.
Hans and Patricia Suter Endowment This endowment was established with a gift from Mrs. Hans R. Suter in 2000.
