department of undergraduate studies The Department of Undergraduate Studies focuses on assisting enrolled students to succeed by providing the First-Year Learning Communities Program and the Honors Program. For future Islanders, our partnership with Flour Bluff High School enriches the academic careers of University Preparatory High School (UPHS) students and Islander Academy participants each year. First-Year Learning Communities Program (FYLCP) All 2,000 first-year students at TAMU-CC register for learning communities consisting of two to four linked courses — one of which is First-Year Seminar — with a cohort of 20 to 25 of their peers. These small learning communities help students make a successful academic and social transition to the Island University by connecting them to faculty, resources and other students. FYLCP students will: • Explore connections between their classes • Develop critical thinking, communication, research and information literacy skills • Enhance their ability to learn through reading, writing, discussion and collaboration • Reflect on their personal values, goals and strengths FYLCP students participate in a First-Year Symposium at the end of the fall semester and have the opportunity to present original research at the First-Year Research Conference in the spring. For more information about the FYLCP, please visit dugs.tamucc.edu/fylcp.
honors program
The Honors Program provides the same opportunities distinguished students may enjoy at an exclusive, private liberal arts university within the broader advantages imparted by a larger public university. This experiential program goes beyond just classroom learning and helps you to reach your greatest intellectual potential. Admitted students take 18 hours in addition to their major, receive scholarship funding, opportunities to work on original research, study abroad, travel and engage with a community of like-minded individuals. To learn more about the benefits, requirements and admissions process please visit honors.tamucc.edu.

We actively encourage students to explore their interests, try new things, meet new people and get the most out of their college experience.
