Touring Staffordshire Hoard Exhibition FREE EXHIBITION Tamworth Castle Sat 27 Aug 2011 - Sun 18 Sep 2011
This summer, discover the secrets of the largest collection of Anglo-Saxon gold ever found, at a free exhibition coming to Tamworth Castle. Tamworth, the ancient capital of Mercia was the centre of military rule and, as the royal seat, it was home to the King of Mercia’s palace. Military power was the key to Tamworth’s existence, and the magnificent sword fittings within the hoard may well be part of the royal treasure store of the Mercian Kings, buried to hide it from invaders. Visit the exhibition to marvel at the magnificent Anglo-Saxon treasures – handle replica swords and helmets to see what the hoard items would have looked like when in use, watch the film footage of the find, and have a go on the interactives. Timed tour slots run from 10am – 4pm each day. For more information and to book free times tickets, exclusive guided group and school tours call 01827 709581/618 or e-mail tic@tamworth.gov.uk
