Tamworth Community Advice Network

Introduction The Tamworth Community Advice Network was launched in January 2009 and has become the primary local network of support providing free advice and support to local residents concerned about issues such as managing debt, dealing with unemployment, the threat of homelessness and many more issues. The network is a partnership supported by the organisations listed in this directory. The idea for the network was originally raised by local voluntary sector organisations through the Local Strategic Partnership. Its subsequent development including the relocation to a dedicated high street premises, has been supported by Tamworth Borough Council. There is a great range of advice and support available in Tamworth. TamCAN as it is known locally tackles perhaps the most difďŹ cult issue i.e. that people do not always know what support or information is available to them or how to go about getting the help they need. Our aim is to make it easier for people by getting local support agencies working more closely together and promoting what they have to offer and offering joined up referral systems and a seamless service for residents. This should remove some of the stress out of the lives of people concerned about their future. In the current economic situation, many people in Tamworth are concerned about their jobs and the impact the economic climate is having on their ability to pay bills and manage money. We hope that both the Community Advice Network and this second directory will go some way towards helping individuals or businesses to seek advice at the earliest opportunity; get some support and see what options they have available to them. Councillor Danny Cook Leader of the Council

Loans: our loan rates can’t go above 26.8% by law. Members who save for 3 months can borrow at a reduced rate over a flexible period. Even if you’re not a member, we may be able to help – just ask. Savings: regular savings can be difficult, but at Tamworth Credit Union we make it easy. • Save as much or as little as you can afford, up to a limit of £10,000; • We can arrange to have your benefits paid direct into your Credit Union account; • Although savings don’t attract interest, we aim to pay members an annual dividend. Free life insurance: all savings and loans are covered by free life insurance so if the worst happens, your loved ones are protected (subject to status).
