GIVING SETS NEW RECORD IN 2021
As Helen Keller once said, “Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.” In those words, she captured what the TTS Foundation has been able to achieve through collective support. It’s heart-warming to see how the Tanglin community joined together to help reach a record-breaking year in terms of participation and philanthropic contributions in 2021. We extend our heartfelt thanks to all 570 Tanglin families for their trust and support of the TTS Foundation. We have raised $274,927 in donations!
In addition to the Annual Fund campaign in October 2021, the easing of restrictions allowed Tanglin’s inaugural Giving Day to take place in June 2022. This was truly a celebration of community as students across the school took part in a wide variety of challenges – from virtual escape rooms to physical assault courses – to release money pledged by individuals and groups of parents.
Tanglin’s
In 2021/22, students gained meaningful insight from Inspirational Visitors such as performance poet Mark Grist, award winning director Dr Jennifer Hartley, clowning tutor Kevin Tomlinson, contemporary fine artist Ian Murphy, artistic gymnast Daniella Nanova and England’s women rugby players Natasha Hunt and Zoe Aldcroft. Curriculum innovation through Centre Stage enactments, developing critical thinking skills through the Lego Robotics Challenge, leadership opportunities through TedX, and hosting the Across Asia Youth Film Festival are also a few of the many opportunities
Tanglin students have experienced in the recent months. All of this took place during an academic year that began with a good deal of disappointment as ongoing restrictions on travel and group activities curbed some of our ambitions yet again. The year certainly ended on a higher note and we hope that 2022-23 will continue that momentum. We have all learned a lot about the power and potential of connecting virtually and no doubt some of our ‘Inspirational Visitors’ will continue to engage with students online. However, nothing beats in-person interaction with peers and role models and we expect an exciting year ahead.
As we look back on the journey of a decade, we are extremely grateful for the many wonderful projects Tanglin Giving has enabled. There is no doubt that as beneficiaries of the TTS Foundation, our students will go on to be future leaders in their fields of choice, carrying with them rich and potentially life-changing experiences they have gained at Tanglin.
We are excited about the year ahead and look forward to building on the success of the past years, ensuring that all future generations of Tanglin students and Alumni benefit from the widest possible range of opportunities. And to this end, we once again look to your support to take us to ever greater heights.

EXCEPTIONAL PROJECTS IN
2021/22
MASTERCLASS WITH WORLD CLASS FEMALE RUGBY PLAYERS
This was an inspirational opportunity for our children and staff to work with two of the world’s best rugby players. They are Natasha Hunt (World Cup winner) and Zoe Aldcroft (World Rugby Player of the Year). They conducted a mixed training session with Tanglin’s U14 team and a games masterclass for Tanglin’s touch and rugby coaches as well as U19 players who were interested.
GYMNASTIC SHOWCASE WITH DANIELLA NONOVA
Tanglin Lions Gymnastics had a wonderful opportunity to invite Daniela Nanova to host a two-session workshop for our competitive girls’ squads. Daniela is a world-renowned choreographer and a specialist coach for ballet barre, flexibility, and artistic movements in gymnastics. Daniela, who has choreographed routines and worked with British Gymnasts such as Ellie and Becky Downie, focused on ballet barre work, flexibility and jumps and leaps. We are very thankful for this opportunity for our girls’ competitive team.
MUSIC MASTERCLASS
Initiated by TTS foundation, the Wind/Brass and Strings Programmes are now part of the core curriculum for Year 3 and Year 4 students. Last year, the Year 3s enjoyed 20 weeks of group lessons on a variety of string instruments, with over 25% subsequently signing up for individual lessons. Year 4s attended a wonderful musical performance to launch their programme, followed by four weeks of individual lessons on a wind or brass instrument of their choice. A further 36% signed up for individual lessons after the programme, and they were offered the opportunity to join a Wind Band or String Orchestra. These ensembles performed in our Junior Arts Night Concert impressing the audience with the incredible progress they had made in such a short amount of time.
