Merlions Monster Camp & World Cup Wrap Up
The Merlions had an incredible week, kicking off with our annual Monster Camp and culminating in the final leg of the World Aquatics World Cup at the OCBC Aquatic Centre. On Monday and Tuesday, we were thrilled to host eight Olympic swimmers who shared their remarkable journeys with us:
Chad le Clos, South Africa, Olympic Champion 200m Fly from 2012 (beating Michael Phelps!)
Louise Hansson, 3x Swedish Olympian, World Champion
Sophie Hansson, 3x Swedish Olympian, World Championship medallist
Isaac Cooper, 2x Australian Olympian, current World Champion 50m Backstroke
Mary-Sophie Harvey, Canada, '24 Olympic Finalist
Ingrid Wilm, Canada, World Championship medallist
Sophie Angus, Canada, '24 Olympic Finalist
Kacper Stokowski, Poland, NCAA Champion
These elite athletes provided invaluable insights into their paths to the Paris Olympic Games, early swimming days, balancing academics with professional swimming, overcoming injuries, and their favorite memories in the sport. Our students were thrilled to meet them, collecting autographs and photos as keepsakes
After the meet-and-greet, students broke into smaller groups for a one-hour technical clinic in the water, where each received personalized coaching from these world-class swimmers
On Friday, after Monster Camp training, 45 Merlions boarded a bus to the OCBC Aquatic Centre to watch the World Cup Heats session. They cheered loudly for their new international friends as well as eight teammates Stella, Anand, Maddy, Amanda, Nathalie, Chloe, and Natasha—who swam alongside some of the world’s best athletes. Over the three-day competition, each student competed in three events, achieving personal bests, school records, and countless unforgettable memories that will inspire them for years to come. We hope the photos capture the magic of this unforgettable week.
