Tanglin Trust School Music Calendar & Co-curriculum Term Two/Three, 2023-24

WHAT’S ON

Music at Tanglin is inclusive, enjoyable and both aspirational as well as inspirational. Through offering a broad range of opportunities and by sharing our passion for music, we enable our students to be creative and to thrive whatever their individual interests.

In addition to around 680 weekly instrumental lessons, over 50 co-curricular ensembles take place throughout the year, ranging from beginner ensembles to Symphonic Winds, Symphony Orchestra and 'elite' groups such as the Chamber Orchestra and other chamber ensembles. There is also a good number of choirs performing a wide repertoire of music and a thriving Rock n Pop programme with regular performances throughout the year.

From pop-up events and regular informal soloists’ concerts, to formal chamber and solo performances and large-scale Ensemble Concerts (at school or in one of the local concert halls), there are many performance opportunities for Tanglin students. An Annual Choral Concert takes place at the prestigious Victoria Concert Hall early in the summer term and Tanglin musicians have also recently performed at other fantastic venues across Singapore including Eden Hall (The British High Commission), Singapore National Gallery, the Botanic Gardens and St George’s Church.

This booklet highlights the main events for this term. Those concerts or recitals with a description are open to the wider Tanglin community, so please do come along and support our young musicians. As ever, further events will inevitably be added to the calendar for special occasions, such as open mornings, assemblies, pop-up concerts and, later in the term, carol singing across the city.

From early years exploring percussion sessions through to 'elite' senior chamber ensembles, and embracing rock music, world music, and studio/technology techniques, we aim to provide a breadth of opportunities to inspire our students.

With over 50 activities each week, and new additions being added as and when the demand is there, we are confident that we have opportunities for all, whether that be a high-level chamber music performer, an aspiring DJ, or someone who has an interest in learning more about the theory or history of music.
