No cold coffee: The Nissen News Flash

Dear Readers,

Finally, the time has come. Hot off the presses, this is Page 4 the first edition of the new Nissen News Flash.  Road Equip. Days 2013 / News from both inside Exhibition preview and outside the Nissen  Nissen is expanding Group and information about traffic engineering should keep you up-to-date in future. In doing so, we‘ll endeavour to avoid “serving up” the obvious technical issues – we’ll leave the “cold coffee” to those who have few new things to report. You won’t be reading about how hot-galvanizing is “yet again an advancement” for trailers, for instance. This is the case with the trailers we have been independently manufacturing for nearly 20 years and needs no further explanation. And we aren‘t going to try to “sell” you our Multi-Light 340 LED L9H tested according to WL7 as something new – it’s been the state of the art with us for a long time and is certified according to EN 12352 took place years ago. To us a “news flash” has to be more than just a lighthouse on the horizon. With a wink, it may also shine a light on the things we do in everyday life.

Steel-Pro 500 – narrow in profile, but big in effect With the NisTech Steel-Pro 500 you can set up roadworks and driving lanes quickly, safely and in conformance to standards. Innovatively designed, developed in line with the market. With the new Steel-Pro 500 NisTech engineers were successful in starting a new product offensive in the field of mobile safety barriers according to EN 1317-2. During the test in May 2012 by DEKRA Neumünster the Steel-Pro 500 (T1/W2) with a length of 12 m/unit and a height of 51 cm was successfully crash tested (DEKRA Test No. SH 12.40). Unanchored, the new system on the market attained containment level W2 and was also given an “A” for impact severity level. Equally successfully tested was the required tilt length limiter (KLB) (DEKRA Test No. SH 13.15). “We are very satisfied to once more be able to offer our customers an innovative product to round off our range of products. At only 29.5 kg per meter, we provide the option of offering 600 m per truck load capacity. This enables our customers to plan their construction site equipment more quickly and thus economically“, said Oliver Tauffenbach, NisTech CEO. “Our engineers have once again done an outstanding job, giving the green light to the NisTech family of mobile safety equipment“. According to Mr Tauffenbach, upon completion of the T1 series testing has already begun for more traffic barriers.

With this in mind, we hope you enjoy reading it. Your feedback, praise or criticism is always welcome.

BASt test passed successfully Over the past few years the trend away from conventional illumination and towards LEDs has become ever stronger. So it‘s only natural that after the general changeover of “construction site lighting“ with incandescent and halogen lamps to LED that Xenon flash lamps have also taken this step. That’s why the Multi-Light 340 LED Flash has been added to our series of lamps that are also approved in Germany. It easily passed the BASt (BASt stands for Bundesanstalt für Straßenwesen, Federal Highway Research Institute) test for TL-90 warning lamps, lamp class WL5 after being just as successfully tested in accordance with EN 12352, class L9M/O3 lights several years ago.

As an LED lamp the Multi-Light 340 LED Flash has the advantage of relatively low power consumption, which permits, depending on the battery, an operating time of up to 1,400 hours. The mandatory automatic day-night adaptation also ensures that power consumption is kept low.

Full-fledged replacement for Xenon flash lamps Of course, the Multi-Light 340 LED Flash has all the important features of the Xenon flash lamp, making it a full-fledged replacement.

The Multi-Light 340 LED Flash is the successor to the 340 mm Xenon flash lamp, which is used in Germany as a twofold system on warning trailers. For this reason, it of course has type approval in accordance with European Directive 72/245/EEC, which defines the criteria for radio interference (electromagnetic compatibility, “e1 certificate“).

Another new addition to our product range is the rapid use Star-Flash LED Type 627. It can be used both in standalone mode as well as in any number as a guide light system, synchronization is done via the proven and integrated infrared diodes.

The Star-Flash Type 627 is particularly suitable for use by police, fire and other emergency services. Thanks to its slim design, space-saving portability and charging cradle, the Star-Flash Type 627 can be easily integrated into any emergency vehicle. The innovative charging technology, which is powered by the electrical system, ensures quick and safe charging, so the lamps are ready for use at any time. But even if there is no possibility of immediately charging the battery after use, this is no problem, because due to its newly developed Lithium-Ion battery with very low self-discharge, the lamp

can attain an operating time of up to 70 hours. It is however also available for use with ordinary dry cell batteries.

Up to 70 hours of operating time thanks to the new generation of batteries In addition to the high warning effectiveness by the active light, double-sided retro-reflective “POLICE“ or “FIRE BRIGADE“ labels on the lamps are available. This provides an extra level of warning for police and fire emergency calls. All in all, the Star-Flash LED Type 627 is an ideal safety device for all emergency services.

Great partner for action forces.

High overhead with the Pharos Modelled after one of the seven wonders of the ancient world, the Lighthouse of Alexandria, our mobile, three-level LED overhead warning trailer was given the name “Pharos“. The job of our “lighthouse“ is similar to that of its namesake, but the technology is anything but antiquity. Equipped with variable message signs in the latest LED technology, the Pharos directs motorists safely through traffic and informs them of hazards ahead of time. Even if a car driver’s view is limited by a truck driving ahead him, the top-most warning can be still seen from a long distance due its height of more than 7 meters. This makes a timely response possible, significantly increasing traffic safety. The Pharos can of

course also be used as a “normal“ LED warning trailer. If the traffic situation does not warrant overhead use, the Pharos can still be used as a normal, two-level LED warning trailer. The “Pharos“ overhead warning trailer is already in use in some parts of Germany and our customers are highly satisfied with the positive experience they have thus far had in practical use. The Pharos variable LED message signs are of course photometrically tested according to DIN EN 12966. The use of light-emitting diodes with a large beam angle makes is possible to recognise all of the characters being displayed from virtually any viewing angle, even in bright daylight. An anti-glare screen also provides glare protection and extra protection against the infiltration of dirt and moisture. With the assistance of the optional Web-based NiCo application powered by Almo®, the Pharos can be controlled and monitored from great distances. Furthermore, without much effort it is possible to integrate it into existing traffic management systems, whereby traffic on each section of the road can be influenced at any time.

Innovations at the 6th German Road Equipment Days At the 6th German Road Equipment Days taking place from 20th to 21st March 2013, which this year is focussing on the themes of road marking, traffic safety, traffic signs and restraint systems, visitors were offered a comprehensive trade exhibition. As in previous years, we are presenting a cross section of our extensive product range.

20th to 21st March, 2013 in Potsdam One of the main innovations being unveiled at the exhibition is the Multi-Light 340 LED Flash advance warning lamp. The Multi-Light 340 LED Flash is one of the few LED lights on the market which has been tested and approved by the BASt in lamp class WL 5 according to German standards. Fitting for the “Traffic Safety“ working group, the crash absorber (TMA) is being presented for safety vehicles. Another new item is the Star-Flash LED type 627 guide light system.
