This play was published in the First Folio of 1623, where it was listed as a comedy, and its first recorded performance occurred in 1604. The play's main themes include justice, "mortality and mercy in Vienna," and the dichotomy between corruption and purity: "some rise by sin, and some by virtue fall." Mercy and virtue predominate, since the play does not end tragically.

A Sunday morning tradition for many East Enders, Brick Lane market is a vast hotchpotch of stalls selling leather clothing, second-hand furniture and bric-a-brac. Here, second-hand stores and leather shops line the actual market itself, and hot dog stands compete for trade with the many cheap and cheerful Indian and Bangladeshi restaurants, trendy bars, and a famous 24-hour bagel shop.
