Introduction

EXPERIENCE BETTER LEARNING Adrian Mc Cormick

Better Learning is all about you. It’s what you want to give your students if you’re a teacher of English, or to experience if you’re a student. Language doesn’t stand still and neither does the way we learn. Our resources are flexible and respond to your teaching environment and the needs of your students. Better Learning is our promise to you to provide support, resources and technology that you can trust, so you can focus on doing what you do best — teach.

HELPING TEENS TO THINK BEYOND LANGUAGE Herbert Puchta

Latest studies into the teenage brain reveal why adolescents are prone to risk-taking, but at the same time have amazing potential for change and social adaptability. For educators, this offers excellent opportunities to build strong language skills while at the same time challenging their teenage students to think beyond language, with an emphasis on critical thinking, values and self-esteem — ensuring academic and lifelong success. In this session, Herbert will use examples from his new course book, Think, in order to demonstrate how language learning for teenagers can be made more memorable by engaging students in real‑life thinking tasks aimed at developing their self-esteem and critical thinking skills. You will also see examples of how you can maximize teaching time and track students’ progress with the help of Think and the Cambridge Learning Management System.

DISCOVERING THE WORLD THROUGH ENGLISH

POWER UP YOUR CLASSROOM WITH CAMBRIDGE DIGITAL TOOLS

Annabel Marriott

Julien Lannoy and Michelle Van Toorn

We know that student engagement and an enjoyable class environment are crucial to successful learning. But it’s also true that in our increasingly competitive world and intense focus on targets and exam scores it’s not always easy to create engaging, motivating lessons that also thoroughly prepare teenagers to achieve good results.

Our range of digital components and resources create a stimulating classroom environment and help free up your time to do what you do best-teach.

So how can we achieve this balance and start to reignite our students’ natural curiosity and love of learning? At the same time, how can we encourage them to broaden their minds and learn more about the world around them through English? In this session you will see examples of material from our new Secondary course, Eyes Open, with a particular focus on how video can be exploited for enjoyable lessons that are also easy to prepare.

This session will give you an overview of all of the teaching resources for both Think and Eyes Open on the Cambridge Learning Management System. This is a simple, easy-to-use platform that creates a place where students can interact with content, collaborate with other learners to practice language in a social context, and communicate with their teacher outside the classroom. It allows you to manage classes and track progress, highlighting areas of strength and weakness for ongoing performance improvement. We will also demonstrate our easy-to-use Presentation Plus technology with student and workbook content, embedded audio and video! We will finish by showing some of the web resources (tâches complexes/champs thématiques) available to download.
