The Salvation Army Angel Tree
Christmas is the season of giving, and it is so important to me that my children experience the goodness that comes from a giving heart. Last year, I took my daughter to pick an angel off the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree. We shopped for the little girl she chose, and she picked out everything by herself. It brought so much joy for the both of us. My heart exploded to see how happy it made her to be giving in such a beautiful way, and it made her excited to know she was helping to provide special gifts for a little girl on Christmas morning.
Christmas Tees
In my opinion, you just can’t have too many Christmas tees. Christmas only comes once a year - so why not dress for the occasion all December long? Henderson is full of amazing shops to stock up on your Christmas wardrobe this holiday season.
Simply Southern Christmas Blanket
Last year, my kids bought me a Simply Southern Christmas blanket from Sweet Pea’s Gift Shop located right here in Henderson. I had been talking about wanting a blanket – not only to use as a decorative piece – but to keep me warm during the cold winter months. It is the perfect size and so incredibly soft! Christmas is almost here, and I couldn’t be more excited! There is just something so special about this time of year - the gift of giving, Christmas music and lights everywhere you go. It’s a season you just can’t help but be filled with joy.
I thought I loved Christmas as a kid, but being a parent and seeing my own kids on Christmas is even better! We love going places—so experience gifts are definitely something my kids enjoy receiving. However, we recently received an Amazon Christmas book, and my three-year-old said he wanted just about everything in the book— ha. As much as we love seeing their little faces light up when receiving a gift, my husband and I also want our kids to know how amazing it is to give to others—expecting nothing in return. The feeling of knowing you have done something for someone else with a humble heart is such an amazing feeling.
In this issue, we have some inspiring features to share with you about those within our community doing just that—giving to others. From the new non-profit Gift Skateboarding to the Henderson Cotillion to a local family’s wish being granted with the help of volunteers from Old National Bank—we truly are a community who come together and make Henderson such a wonderful place to call home.
This is also our Shop Local issue. Inside, you will find a listing of local businesses to shop at this holiday season. Downtown Henderson has grown so much—it provides such a welcoming feel. Grab your favorite coffee from one of Henderson’s amazing coffee shops while you browse and shop all the stores. Henderson reminds me of a little town straight out of a Hallmark Christmas movie—and who doesn’t love that?
Don’t forget to check out our delicious, hot chocolate pancake recipe that’s sure to put you in the holiday spirit. Need a fun craft for your kids? We have a super cute Christmas tree ornament craft to share—all you need are your leftover cupcake liners.
