FANZINE ISSUE 1

This fanzine is a bit of a cheeky little teaser to get you in the mood for Tantrum’s debut issue and features the kinds of things you can expect from us in the future. But don’t hold us to that because we don’t ever really do what’s expected of us. And we don’t like playing by the rules. Stay tuned, and stay gold. Navneet Gill - Editor in Chief

EDITORS.LETTER

Editor’s letters can sometimes be a bit pretentious, but not this one. After all, that whole ‘snooty’ aspect of the fashion industry is one of the things that sparked us to create this magazine in the first place. Tantrum started life a whole year ago as an unconventional kind of blog where we could showcase snippets of what we like in the fashion, music and arts world, and it evolved into… well, a magazine that does pretty much the same thing. Sure, it’s been an insane year for us to get this far, filled with stressful long nights, millions of emails and phone calls, endless supplies of pick & mix and tea and yes, of course we’ve chucked the odd tantrum or two but you know what? It’s all been totally worth it.

LONDON FASHION WEEK

Famed for their rock-chick aesthetic, Felder Felder stayed true to their habits of catering for the hip, alt-fashion girl, who’s more into Iggy Pop than well, just pop. Injecting some colour to their usually monochrome palette in the form of a dark electric blue, Dani and Annette Felder’s AW collection offered looks ranging from chic tailored dresses

lightly embellished white blouses teamed with spaceage silver skirts, all toughened up with cropped biker jackets and AW’s must have accessory: blue-dyed goats hair cuffs. This collection had us thanking our lucky stars we didn’t give in to the cold and go home and certainly proved the point that we kind of knew all along: When it comes to fashion, the Felder girls know best.

FELDER FELDER

ASHISH Our favourite pieces from Ashish’s AW11 collection included the cobwebbed-knee tights (inspired by punky elbow tattoos) and the insanely cool moth-eaten holy jumpers, emblazoned with slogans like ‘Teen Idle’ and ‘Holy Crap’ (Ashish, if you’re reading, if you send those over to Tantrum HQ we’ll love you FOR.EVER.) Ashish has a habit of epitomising cool London style and he definitely did that with this tongue-in-cheek collection. An inspiration for this collection was said to have been ‘girls wearing their boyfriends clothes’ and well, whether they’re our boyfriends clothes or not, we’d LOVE to be wearing Ashish this AW season! Being coerced into leaving my bed to travel a deserted field takes a certain degree of talent. On this day in particular, I was invited to meet musician, Dorian Oddwood at Kenwood House and not only had the British winter fully taken hold of London, t

Dressed in an olive green mohair coat by graduate designer Benedicte Zuccarelli, an abruptly checked shirt and deep purple pair ski pants and construct ion boots on his feet, we went full swing into an interactive shoot in and amongst a

he aforementioned field was also covered in a thick blanket of snow. I was introduced to Dorian Oddwood by our mutual friend, photographer, Nedim Nazerali. Dorian is an alternative pop slash indie musician with more London dapper than hair on his head. With a certain quirky swank and a soulful voice only comparable to the likes of John Legend, his performances and acoustic versions (which you almost never come across these days) have been thoroughly savoured by those who have come across his talent.

mass of white stuff and sunshine. With singlesv like The Love Routine, Keep off the Grass and Bees Don’t Sleep, and regular appearances of his dog, Dorian is a unique talent undeniably set to achieve greatness in a more contemporary music industry. If his outrageous afro or unique London style isn’t to your liking, his voice is sure to change your mind.

M U S Described as a 60s girl group/beat combo, their perfect brand of off the wall pop will have you feeling like you’ve walked right out of a movie... so long as the movie had kick ass characters, classic fashion sense and witty dialogue. This is never seen any more clearly than in Narcissus in a Red Dress - ‘High school skinny fades away, and you’re just left with Polaroids capturing your fifteen minutes. Ain’t it great?’ That’s not to say that they can’t do the cold hard truth wrapped with a bright musical bow; just try He’s Not A Boy or Wishing He Was Dead. And if you can listen to Walk of Shame without humming it for days afterwords, you are better people than us! Kirsty Gillspie

S I C To celebrate the legendary Mick Rock’s recent book ‘Mick Rock Exposed: The Faces of Rock ‘n’ Roll’ the Idea Generation gallery, Shoreditch, welcomed him with open arms, exhibiting some of the renowned music photographer’s best work. Stepping into the tiny entrance to the gallery was like stepping out of the wardrobe in Narnia (cheesy, we know, but it’s true!) The white washed walls and simplistic layout of the gallery was offset by the colourful, explosive collection of Rock’s work, featuring an extensive mixture of rock ‘n’ roll royalty - from huge David Bowie wall hangings to images of Andy Warhol and Lou Reed chilling out on a sofa.
