Child Therapy, For A Better Future Why does any kid need child therapy? Because growing up is tough. It is a confusing and complicated process full of learning from one’s environment and experiences which ultimately mould the child’s personality. Some children get through the phases of their life alright, without any traumatic experience, learning to deal with their environment with normalcy. Some kids need the assistance of a child psychologist to help them along the way. That does not mean your child is a “weirdo” or is “abnormal”, it just means that you as parent think it is important for your child to develop in the right way when it is easy to mould his or her mind so that the rest of his or her life will be set on path. Enrolling your child into child therapy means getting your child to engage with a stranger, which is why it is very important for your child to like that adult. So how do you identify if your child needs a psychologist or not? It is very simple. The major reasons one would visit a child psychologist could be- helping a child deal with a disease and the mental trauma that comes with it, helping a child deal with the death of a loved one, it could even be about helping a child who is a victim of physical or mental abuse by either a family member or someone from school or other surroundings. Special guidance and child therapy can also be organized for those children who haven’t particularly been troubled by any external factor but has more to do with certain imbalances of hormones or certain mental disabilities they were born with or developed with the passage of time. The patterns in your child’s behaviour should be observed. Often kids are scared to confront adults about a horrific incident that has occurred with them. Monitor your child’s behaviour. Is he disinterested in school, does he not care about the things he used to. Is he overall unhappy or depressed and no longer communicates. If this happens over a week it is alright, sometimes kids have their rough patches, however if the behaviour is prominently consistent then you should consider visiting a child psychologist. Participation however, from your child’s end, is very important. You could take your child to the best child psychologist who will be able to provide short-term benefits. Through talk therapy, games, arts and crafts and just playing and theatre, there are ways to reach your child’s mind and understand the root cause of the problems he or

she is facing. In this scenario often the teacher, the parent, the psychologist and the child come together as one to help the child benefit overall and move past the situation in his life. However, if the child does not want to co-operate then even the best child psychologist will not be able to help you beyond a certain extent. This does not mean that the child therapy sessions will be abandoned but it does mean that the entire duration may take a lot longer than was anticipated. Overall, visiting a child psychologist could be very beneficial for your child in the long run, helping him cope with problems and overcome barriers to communication.
