Therapeutic activities or group activities for teens help them recover from stress inducing situations or any kind of physical or psychological pressure. The Us Centre for Medicare and Medicaid Services states that therapeutic activities are aimed at enhancing somebody’s physical, emotional or cognitive health and well-being. These activities work on a person’s self-esteem, social skills, comfort, educational problems, enhancing of creativity, success orientation and independence. The following are a few therapeutic activities for teenagers which they would love to engage in, and which can contribute to improving their inter-personal and intra-personal skills as well as self-development. 1. Roll the Ball - This game encourages positivity and self-confidence. Teenagers are made to sit down in a circle and are handed a soft ball. This ball is rolled from one teenager to another. The teenager who is currently holding the ball is encouraged to first share with the group their name and one positive thing that describes them the best. They can also be encouraged to share other interesting aspects of themselves such as their likes, dislikes, personality traits, hobbies or what makes them happy. This is an interesting and comfortable way of inducing self-confidence and to form healthy and positive associations with other teens. 2. Find Your Buddy - This is a fun activity that a encourages self-reflection and awareness within a teen and encourages them to acknowledge what they really like and relate to in life. It also helps them feel a sense of belonging. The main motive of this activity is for teens to discover which teen in the group can they relate to the most. Teens are handed a pen and a paper and are asked to write down five words that describe them the best. They could also write down things that they love or specific things like five things they love to eat. They are then asked to read them out loud and see which teens have matching answers. The teens with the highest matches are partnered up and encouraged to get to know each other better. This also helps teens interact and break the ice. 3. Who Am I? - Therapists for teens in Mumbai organize group therapy sessions where teenagers can come and discuss their problems in an integrated setting which helps them realize that they’re not alone and that their support can also take someone a long way. Getting accustomed to this, however, can be intimidating. This activity involves a round of introductions where teens introduce themselves in a unique way instead of just saying their name out loud. They can use adjectives that they believe describe them or any other positive factors that they believe hold true to their identity as an individual.
