Volzero UNBOX competition Location : City centre, Sector 17 plaza, Chandigarh, India. Project : Co-working art hub cum exhibition space. Done in group of 2.
Shipping containers are a potential building material that boast of good structural quality, can be easily recycled and are universally available. This project aims to explore the inventive functionality and disruptive quality of shipping containers.

Why Sector 17? The main commercial and business hub of the city, Sector 17 is the heart of Chandigarh and is located centrally in the city, The core area of sector 17 has been planned as a pedestrian paradise of seamlessly interlinked spaces surrounded by concrete buildings. But the lack of a landmark element makes the skyline of the city centre monotonous and dull. The architectural context also makes it an interesting site for housing a disruptive element by BREAKING THE MONOTONY and the RIGIDITY of the CONCRETE jungle.
Major Problems identified Lack of a LANDMARK element. The existing public plazas are lost spaces with no sense of direction. A platform to boldly EXPRESS, ENCOURAGE, and REPRESENT talent is missing in the city. Deserted Office plaza

Design This structure has been designed as a sculpture symbolizing freedom of expression. The design contradicts its backdrop and stands out, bringing the plaza to life. The structure acts as a CO-WORKING ART HUB that represents expression breaking free in the heart of the city.
Free ground floor plan The ground has been kept free to retain the open character of the plaza. This space can be converted to an exhibition space with exhibits fixed at various levels.

The height of the tower is almost double from the surrounding builldings making it a landmark element. A visual lnk is created by staggered levels in section. A sculptural staircase lights up at night and a glass lift connects the four levels.

The school strives to create a new pedagogical space
that emphasizes on student-centric design in behavioral terms as they interact and use spaces . The learning spaces have a deeper meaning attached to them rather than a generic classroom space. All the spaces provide a different experience to the students in terms of their built quality, aesthetics, color, form and overall spatiality. The school allows the environment to teach, inspire and shape the identity of the students. The landscaped zone in the school does not limit to playfields and unused lawns but tries to merge into the learning spaces in a permeable fashion.

SITE PLANNING The blocks have been place on the site so as to create a safe boundary without creating an actual boundary. This placement intends to maintain a safe and cozy environment. The ADMIN block has been placed at the entrance, apart from the classrooms. This keeps the administrative work running without disturbance. The Admin block has been placed at a higher level than the classrooms. This helps the principal keep an eye on the children and the staff. The CLASSROOMS are placed perpendicular to each other with a common OAT. The OAT promotes interactive activities. The canteen sitting is provided in the open under the shade of a tree, creating a natural and friendly environment for the students.

The kindergarten has been designed as a part of the landform and not on the land. The CONTOUR profile gives a safe and cozy vibe at the classroom level while the admin block placed at a higher level helps the principal keep an eye out.The subtle slopes emerging from the land create playful spaces for the kids to play ind roll around in.
9
The open floor plan allows the children the freedom to run around and makes the space multifunctional as well. The brick arches create an interesting play of light and shadow . The use of raw brick brings subtle warmth into the classrooms with an interesting play of colourful niches. A ramp on the inside of the classroom connects to the roof and leads the children outside to the green sloped roofs creating an adventurous experience.

Alternative Public Space Annual NASA Design Competition Location : Bapu Dham, Sector 26, Chandigarh, India. Done in a group of 7.
Shortlisted in top 60. The brief required us to identify a neglected urban space in our city and transform it making a social impact at the same time, involving the community in the design process and creating a vibrant urban public space. The challenge was to engage in real life hands on construction and execute the proposed design on site.

The SITE
Problems identified
Located along a high traffic zone in sector 26E Chandig arh, the site we chose was a dry barren land that houses the housing society and the residents of the Bapu Dham colony. The societies are home to a larg e number of EWS people that belong to the economically weaker sections; while, the residents of Bapu Dham colony are ragpickers or local vendors by occupation. With its perfectly laid grid plan, straight connecting roads and an underlying essence of symmetry; the irony hides in the most pronounced corners of varient lifestyles.

The seating which is a beautiful composition of the Hollow Concrete Blocks and Bamboo, presents a vivid fusion of MODERNISM and
SUSTAINABILITY.
The boldness of the material; stimulates the mind to think of the sitting space in many creative ways.

The custom made seating units incorporate a design that its context. Bamboo and Hollow Concrete Blocks being economical, offer a sustainable yet permanent solution.

HUMAN AS A FENCE
FRAMES
Due to the parallel running high traffic road, a fence was required which would stop the children from running to the road. But the fence being IRONIC in its existence should not in any way divide the two sides even further.
Frames on the border of the site and the road offer a colourful perspective of the site.
The basic human tendency of a protective care for its young, is something that was exploited through the design. The cleverly placed seating units along the roadside not only enhanced the experience but also forms a
HUMAN FENCE.
The frames also act as a safety fence while maintaining the visual connectivity and not completely blocking off the site. This colourful visual access helps in
