DRIVING INDUSTRY

The CDL program is designed to prepare students with the knowledge and ability required to pass the CDL written and driving skills tests. Through practical skills training, the CDL program helps students become safe and knowledgeable entrants into the commercial vehicle driver work force, and provides short-term workforce training certifi cates that meet industry standards. Upon successful completion of the CDL program, students earn industryrecognized credentials for the truck driving industry.

UNM-Taos also o ers a yearly CDL B Passenger endorsement course.

3D PRINTING

This certifi cate is designed for students who want to gain knowledge about 3D printing and hands-on experience using 3D printers. 3D printing is particularly relevant for students in preengineering and computer-aided drafting degree programs, but the courses are open to anyone interested in turning a design idea into a real physical product. 3-D printing technology is currently used in architecture, industrial design, the automotive industry, aerospace, the military, engineering, the dental and medical industries, biotechnology, fashion, footwear, jewelry, eyewear, education, and many other fi elds.

HOSPITALITY

This program prepares students with the skills necessary to serve as front-line managers at hotels, restaurants, and resorts. Students gain practical experience with hands-on training, including outside work experiences. This program includes instructions in hospitality marketing, planning, management, and coordination of operations.

Students will receive ServSafe certifi cations upon completion.

CULINARY ARTS

The Certifi cate in Culinary Arts is a preparatory experience for those interested in pursuing a career in the food service industry. The Culinary Arts program teaches basic food preparation, service, and innovative trends. Classes include classroom and an internship experience (students may choose from Table Service “front of the house” or Culinary Arts “back of the house”). It is a hands-on professional experience designed to provide students the skills they need for a career in Culinary Arts. All classes are conducted in our state-of-the-art commercial kitchen.

CONSTRUCTION

The Construction Technology Certifi cate provides students with a technical foundation required to compete in today’s construction fi eld. Upon successful completion of the Construction Technology program, students will have the knowledge, skills, and experience to identify, assess, and participate in many entry-level construction trades.

ENTREPRENEURSHIP

The Entrepreneurship Certifi cate Program prepares students to start a small business — a viable career pathway in Northern New Mexico where there is little industry. This program gives students the skills they need to set priorities based on business needs, to manage employees, and to market their product or services. In addition to general education core requirements that support the development of crucial math and literacy skills — this program requires students to take courses covering communication, accounting, management, and marketing, as well as courses that develop core business computer skills.

BUSINESS

The Associate of Arts in PreBusiness Administration is designed for students who plan to pursue further studies for a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration at UNM Albuquerque’s Anderson School of Management or other BBA programs.
