President’s Message
TAPPA is off to a great start. I have received some feedback from our first meeting and the critiques will be incorporated into our operations. I would ask that you continue to offer suggestions for improvements as we go along. Not only is this the year of change, it is also the year of cooperation. I’m going to ask for your help. We need someone to take responsibility for the audio visual equipment set up, tear down, and storage. This is an excellent opportunity to expand and improve your skill sets. We still need someone to work our 50/50. That is how we finance our scholarships to the Florida Photography Workshops. This is most assuredly the easiest way to meet all of the members of our guild. If you like to socialize and you don’t want to feel awkward about how you approach people you don’t know, this is perfect for you. Everyone knows the 50/50 people. We all have busy lives with innumerable stress points. There is never enough time or money to do everything we want to do. If we could only get to that next level; Get the phone ringing off the hook; Be the go to photographer that everyone is talking about. We have members of our guild who have advanced in their photographic careers. Do we take advantage of those skills? Do we ask our mentors to help us get better? Having someone to point you in the right direction to avoid the pitfalls that can kill a business is not a sign of weakness. The most successful people in the world have mentors and coaches. Do a Google search for business coaches in Tampa. I had over 800,000 responses. I am not suggesting that you need to spend a lot of money to get the coaching you may need. I am suggesting that there are benefits of being a member of TAPPA that you may not realize are available or you are too embarrassed to approach for help. They want to help.
I would ask that you come to the meetings with an open mind. I learn something with every conversation I join. I learn something from every presentation. I learn something from every Salon. You may have different opinions from the speaker, but we all know that there is more than one way to achieve an objective, especially in photography. In the interest of cooperation, I would ask that you show respect for the presenter. Please do not voice your opinions loud enough to disturb those around you. If you must discuss something, you could step out of the room. If the speaker allows it, you may ask for clarification, or ask a question, but you should not argue with the presenter. You should take that off line. Amanda has done an excellent job of getting high quality speakers. continued on next page

President’s Message continued
Let’s offer them the respect that you would want if you were speaking. If you have a suggested speaker, please bring that to her attention. If not this year, maybe we can get your speaker next year. I need your help to make this TAPPA’s greatest hour. Let’s get the format of the meetings the way you as a body would like them to be. Let’s get the speakers that will draw not only our members, but other professional and serious amateur photographers to our meetings. If you have a suggestion, I am all ears. Glenn Nielsen, President

Make Yourself Rejection Proof By Chuck Vosburgh
Everyone has a fear of rejection to some degree and it stands in the way between success and failure in most cases. Rejection Proof by Jia Jiang takes a unique approach to solving this common problem. Instead of affirmations and platitudes, the author gives you actionable steps to permanently solve the problem. The prescribed solution is 100 days of deliberately seeking out rejection to immunize yourself from any fear you may have. This book has lots of personal stories and interesting psychology behind asking and answering requests. I decided to try it out for myself and even after 30 years of self-employment I’m learning new things about how and why people say no. It’s been fun, educational and occasionally scary. I highly recommend this book for anyone who wants to improve their results! I’m recording mine on video and you can watch them here: https://www.youtube.com/ playlist?list=PLkMLhwGml31rHUhnTFLU0Pyshi0avrZy Remember to Suscribe to my channel so you get notice as more are added.
