President’s Message
Glenn Nielsen, TAPPA President
Here we are in November. The year has gone by so quickly. There has been so much that has happened and there is so much more looming on the horizon. November is a time to give thanks for all the good that has come into our lives. We have many problems, but we have so much more for which we should be thankful. We live in the greatest country in the world and we are able to follow our passion to earn a living. Are you following your passion? I would certainly hope so. Yes there are challenges and we must work, sometimes doing things that are not our favorite activities, but there is nothing that can replace the welling up of pride when I show a client their images and the emotion just overwhelms them. This is why I do what I do. This is why we need professional photographers, those who know how to use the light to flatter their subject, to create a certain feeling, or to evoke an emotion in the viewer – to tell the story. This is why I feel that TAPPA is so important to me. I am able to be with people who understand what it means to create that “perfect” image; the camaraderie that we share in our meetings; knowing that if you needed someone to help you or to step in for you if you were unable to complete an assignment for any reason. This is what TAPPA provides to its members. Yes, we also have the ability to compete, to offer our work up for critique and praise and through that we improve our skill set becoming better photographers. I’m sure that each and every one of you have your own experiences that make TAPPA a great organization to be a part of. I would be grateful if you would share those experiences with me.
On a different note, being November it is time to look at your goals for 2017 and to prepare your goals for 2018. How did you do this year? Are your new goals specific and measurable? Are you comfortable with your goals or are they a stretch for you? Have you written them down and do you look at them every day? In order to achieve your goal you need to work toward success every day. If you believe, it will happen.

Member Spotlight: Ginny B. Otto
By Amanda Pratt
The Tampa Area Professional Photographer’s Association, like most organizations, benefits those who do more than just show up. Members who get involved, join committees and help run the TAPPA machine benefit widely from their involvement. It’s simple: get involved and you’ll reap the benefits. Every month, TAPPA features a member who has attended at least 4 monthly meetings during the calendar year. Want to be a featured member? Attend, participate and volunteer and you could be in the spotlight next month!
Let’s Meet... Ginny B. Otto Ginny holds a PPA Master’s degree, a PPA Craftsman Degree and an IPPA Fellowship for Photographic Artistry. She is located in Spring Hill, FL. Q: Tell us how you got started in photography. A: As a wildlife painter in the early 80’s, my husband bought me a Contax camera so that I could photograph wildlife and paint from my

photographs. I was thrilled to be out in the environment and my brushes quickly became abandoned and I began my journey as a wildlife photographer. On January 1, 1993, while recuperating from cancer and encouraged by my husband, I photographed the local ‘Polar Bear Swim’. It was the beginning of my work for the local newspaper and later that year I opened my first portrait studio. Q: Describe your work as a photographer. A: Over the years, my work as a photographer has included, but not been limited to, portraiture, photojournalism, sports, newspaper, magazines and commercial. I am most well known for my wedding photography. Following my husband’s retirement and a move from Wisconsin to Florida in 2015, I began a transition to photographic art work, concentrating on wall art and enjoying wildlife photography again. I am currently working on completing my Artist degree with PPA to complete my goal of obtaining all three degrees.
Q: What is your favorite piece of gear right now? A: I just received the new Nikon D500 camera, along with the Tamron 16-300mm lens and look forward to taking it with my on my outdoor adventures. Q: What is on your gear wish list? A: Having recently purchased the D500 and Lumix GX7, My gear list is complete! Q: Describe your dream photo shoot. A: I have a number of things on my bucket list that include a trip to Cuba, an African safari, Antartica wildlife, ice caves in Iceland and the polar bears in Canada.
Q: What’s one thing that you love about being a TAPPA member and how has it helped your photography career? A: Having been involved with several professional photographic organizations and holding many positions on the boards since 1998, it was only natural for me to join when moving to Florida from Wisconsin. I have never felt so welcome throughout the years as I have in both TAPPA and FPP here in Florida. The level of speakers and opportunities for further education I find exceptional for both seasoned and new photographers. It keeps all of us on top of our profession!

CJ Moment
Glenn Nielsen
CJ Moment was born and raised in the Tampa Bay area. He is a member of the TAPPA Board of Directors and serves as Membership Chairman. He has been in business for over 15 years specializing in his first passion, videography, and seven years ago added still photography to his business. CJ enjoys both video and still photography and is an event specialist.
I grew up on a farm and we were really, really dirt poor. My dad had a camera but we didn’t take many pictures. When I was a teenager he gave me a black and white box camera and I would take pictures and send the film off, and 2 or 3 weeks later they would come back, and hopefully they looked good.
He has also been a Technician at Ringpower, a Caterpilliar heavy equipment dealership for over 20 years.
I have no pictures whatsoever from my childhood. I love people and I love babies. This gives me the opportunity to make sure your children will never have to say they don’t have pictures from their childhood. For me it’s the joy of participating in the creation of life and the development of a child’s personality. That’s what makes it all worthwhile.
CJ is known for his strong work ethic, positive attitude, and always looking for opportunities to learn new things.
About Glenn Nielsen: In addition to being a professional photographer and owner of Pics in the Glenn, Glenn Nielsen is a published author
CJ is 38 years old, has been married for over 20 years to his Wife Yolanda and together have three girls; Takisa 21, Telia 18, and Tiana 14.
