President’s Message

Glenn Nielsen, TAPPA President

What a month it has been for all of us. Depending on your point of view we either got lucky, or despite Irma being less severe for us than was predicted, we still got clobbered. It could have been worse, but those who were affected are certainly feeling the pain. Then we need to think about Puerto Rico and Maria’s total devastation. It is hard to imagine the total breakdown of everything in their life, food, water, shelter, and day to day life. We must do whatever we can to help those less fortunate than we are. At the same time we must continue with our lives and get back to normal as soon as we possibly can. In that vein, remember that TAPPA will be meeting on October 10. Our program deals with our pets and how to best preserve your memories of them. Everyone loves animals, right? I’ll bet we all have some special stories about the pets that we’ve owned or crossed paths with at some point in time. Maybe you have been thinking about adding pet photography to your offerings. This is a great opportunity to get some inside information about what to do and what not to do. I apologize if I am rambling across different subjects. This is a time for reflection and reevaluation of our goals and our achievements. When someone gives you lemons, make lemonade. We need to find the good in everything around us. Sometimes that is a challenge, but those who succeed learn how to bounce off the wall and look for a new opening. Spencer Johnson addressed this fact very succinctly in his book, Who Moved My Cheese? We can dwell on what used to be, or we can try to find a way to

adapt to the changed world. We must do that as individuals and we, TAPPA, must do it as an organization. We the Board of Directors are seeking ways to adapt. You may not always agree with the changes we are making, and if that is the case, we encourage you to voice your opinion. Declare yourself a candidate for the Board. Get involved with the committees. Do something. We are only as good as the sum of our parts. I think that TAPPA is a great fraternal organization. We need to keep it that way as we evolve. Let’s finish 2017 strong and start 2018 with a bang. Each and every one of you hold the key to make that so.

September Meeting Canceled as Hurricane Irma Approaches

Last month, with the imminent threat of Hurricane Irma the monthly meeting of TAPPA was canceled. The scheduled speaker was Megan DiPiero presenting her program The $5,000 Close. Megan will be rescheduled to another date and we’ll let you know once a date is set. The Tampa Bay area was spared major damage and most suffered little more than an inconvenience and a few days without electricity. This is a good time to evaluate your own preparation for your home and your business and make plans to be even better prepared next time there’s a natural disaster.
