Getting to know your fellow members
Win Wolloff Hi, I’m Win Wolloff, I am semi-retired professional photographer and graphic illustrator. I am keeping my hand in making images for Tampa Bay Magazine. I also serve on the board of directors of the Tampa Area Chapter of the Professional Photographers of America. I am entering my sixth decade as an imagemaker, and because of that I see the world through eyes that have seen a lot. In my lifetime, I have been a musician, a ski instructor, an animal handler, and a motorcycle salesman. Professional photography lured me away from the motorcycle business while in my twenties and changed what had been a hobby into a profession. While still employed in the motorcycle business my boss took advantage of the upcoming AMA race weekend at Laconia, NH to promote a series of indoor short track events at the Boston Garden. I photographed those races and suddenly found I was able to make money with my photography. After the first success I didn’t make another dime for 6 months and I realized that I had a LOT to learn to make a go of this crazy profession. I worked in a succession of related jobs (customer service at Lustre Color and wedding shooter for local studios on the weekends) trying to both put food on the table and learn enough to make images that

people wanted to buy. During this time, I met Rudy Graziani. Rudy was a very well regarded pro and a customer of Lustre Color. His studio was closer to my house than the lab and when he offered me a job I jumped at the chance. Rudy became my mentor and friend, got me interested in PPA and print competition, and motivated me to learn to print color by buying a 36” paper processor and dumping a pile of manuals and instruction books on my desk saying “Read these, the processor
arrives next week. Be ready to set it up and start making prints.” I will never be able to thank him enough he is the basis of everything I am as a photographer. He was a great teacher and an innovator, being among the first to incorporate umbrella lighting into his portrait workflow. Periodically he would tell me I was fired only to have arranged a temporary job with another photographer who had something to teach me. In this way I learned the ropes of commercial photography shooting jewelry, large furniture sets, automobiles and large trucks and small products. When I would return to Rudy at Cameo Studios he would add the skills I recently acquired to the ad in the Yellow pages and we would go from there. Eventually I moved on from Cameo Studios doing more and more commercial work until I eventually opened a studio, at first with a partner then on my own. In the 80’s as those of us in this business began to see that the light at the end of the tunnel was a train of great changes coming at us with an Apple logo for a headlight. I bought my first Mac when $5000 bought you a 2Si with 5 MB of RAM and a 40 meg hard drive, a 13” monitor and a 300 DPI laser printer. That machine was totally inadequate to the demands of Photoshop but I did learn the basics of page layout and how the computer worked, laying the basis for the rest of my career. Learning Photoshop after creating special effect images on film was a logical process and, by the time we made the move to Florida I was ready to teach the software at the college level
As a photographer I have been privileged to be active from the days of large format film (One of my first studio jobs was shooting business portraits on an 8x10 Kodak Portrait view camera on split 5x7” film.) and through the digital revolution. I have covered sports, portraiture, weddings, journalism, and commercial photography, creating images for advertising, corporate identity, and editorial use. I even had a stint as a photographer for the Tampa Bay Rays Major League Baseball team. I ran my photography studio in the northeastern United States for more than 20 years, and after moving to the Tampa area began a teaching career at the International Academy of Design that lasted another 20 years. In recent years I have been able to concentrate on making images for my own satisfaction. Thankfully, many of these have fared well in print competitions. Digital technology and the Giclée printer have allowed me the freedom to make images in new and exciting ways.

Elections for TAPPA Board of Directors Vote will be held at the December meeting. There are two open positions. Members in good standing may make noninations at the meeting.
Cadidate Bill Cadzow is the proud owner of Liara Studios Photographic Art and Design. Bill has been a professional photographer since 2001. Bill credits the Associations with providing him the knowledge he needed to become successful in the photographic industry. Bill jumped into the industry with two feet. In 2002, he bought the South East’s largest wedding studio. That year the studio shot over 950 weddings with 14 photographers. He became a member of TAPPA, FPP and PPA. He has since earned his Florida Education Degree and the Degree of Photographic Excellence and he is a certified photographer through PPA. Bill has accomplished all of this while serving the citizens of Largo as a Firefighter and Paramedic for over 24 years and retired from the fire service in 2019. In 2005, after propelling the big wedding studio into the digital age, he sold it to start his own boutique style studio. Bill enjoys being selective with his assignments and works hard to keep volume low.
Bill now shoots only a few weddings a year and primarily focuses on Fine Art Family Portraiture. Through the years, Bill has won numerous Distinguished Awards and has finished First Place several times at the FPP Convention. Bill considers himself to be a Classical Portraitist with a Contemporary Feel. Bill is an accomplished studio photographer earning numerous merits with his classical portraits. He takes his knowledge of studio lighting to the great outdoors for environmental portraiture and social functions.
