PROGRAM NOTES
Beyond Twilight is constructed of moments inspired by early science fiction films, ethereal grooves, and rock and roll music. I love looking for movement in the night sky, whether it be a shooting star, satellite, or some anomalous movement unclear to me. This piece is inspired by all that becomes visible beyond twilight.

PERFORMANCE NOTES
• Please choose mallets that will create a warm attack; avoid metals and very hard plastics. Most of the cymbal strikes are meant to be light. Using the back end of a birch or rattan mallet will work perfectly.
• Drums should be pitched low to high. All drums should have more of a rock and roll thud, rather than a long, open decay. Cymbals do not need to be placed in pitch order but should all vary in color.
• The glockenspiel player can let all notes ring. The vibraphone player should use their best judgment regarding pedaling to create full notes without too much bleed.
• For the hand on cymbals indication, players should use their palm like a mallet, bending the pitch of the cymbal.
PLAYERS AND INSTRUMENTATION
Beyond Twilight requires 4 players with the following instrumentation:
1. Glockenspiel
+ high tom, suspended cymbal
2. Vibraphone
+ low tom, suspended cymbal
3. Xylophone
+ medium tom, suspended cymbal
4. Marimba (low A)
+ bass drum, snare drum, suspended cymbal
