CERTIFIED PASSIVE HOUSE DESIGNER COURSE

Source: passipedia.org

Many Professionals in the construction industry now recognize that our current building standards are inadequate to produce truly sustainable construction, and that far more ambitious goals are required if we wish to attain true energy security and a carbon neutral economy. The Passive House Standard, developed and refined over the past 20 years, delivers these goals today through radical energy conservation, at a price that can be affordable to all.

Target Zero are accredited by the Passivhaus Institut, Darmstadt, Germany, to conduct training courses for Passive House Designer / Consultant, examinations for certification, and to make the first correction of the exam. Our goal is to assist you to obtain international accreditation, and knowledge in the fastest growing global standard for energy efficiency. We’ll also offer you postcourse technical support during the planning stages of your first Certified Passive House building, as well as putting you in touch with a growing national network of component suppliers.

Intensive 9 day course in Passive House design and construction - Each course is a challenging and intensive course of instruction, and is aimed at qualified and motivated building professionals who have a passion to learn the art of Passive House design, the world’s leading standard in low‐energy, sustainable construction. WHAT DOES THE COURSE COVER? Passive House Standard - Basics Passive House history, Definition of a Passive House, Construction design options, The reason for airtight and thermal bridge free design, The role of the windows, Mechanical heat recovery ventilation, Heating and domestic hot water concepts, Quality control and certification process, PHPP - Passive House Planning Package, Samples of built Passive House projects, Retrofitting to Passive House Standard – EnerPHit. Building Envelope & Construction Techniques General requirements, U-value calculations, Thermal bridge free design and calculations, Airtightness, Surface temperature calculations, Thermal comfort, Humidity and condensation, Detailing Examples & Case Studies, Summer overheating. Windows and Doors General requirements, U-value calculations, Thermal bridge free design and calculations, Surface temperature calculations, Thermal comfort, Summer overheating. Heating, Cooling, De-Humidification & Domestic Hot Water Special requirements for heating/cooling and domestic hot water, Heating/cooling load definition and calculations, Heat sources and system concepts, Distribution systems, Temperature zoning, Samples of built projects. Ventilation Ventilation system basics, Strategies, Sample systems, System layout exercise, Quality control, Ventilation system balancing. PHPP Introduction Introduction to PHPP, Calculation methodology, Treated floor area, Transmission losses, Solar gains, Shading, Ventilation, Airtightness, Heating/cooling energy demand and heating/cooling load, Heating/cooling/de-humidification, Domestic hot water, Internal gains and electric energy, Primary energy, Climate zones, Calculation exercise.

Economics Introduction to economic calculations, Static and dynamic calculation methods, Annuity and net present value, Energy price equivalent method, Calculation exercise. Practical Implementation and Site Supervision Quality control, Construction management, Site management & Supervision, Airtightness testing and thermal imaging. PHPP workshop - Simply the combination of components for a Passive House does not necessarily lead to a building that meets the requirements of the Passive House standard. Passive House Planning Package (PHPP) is a key software that is used in the initial design phase to prove that a building meets the criteria for a Passive House. Participants in this workshop will learn the content and structure of PHPP and will gain practical experience working with it. The training is aimed at architects, engineers, consultants, and construction professionals who wish to gain further knowledge, experience & expertises of working with the Passive House Planning Package. One Day Revision and Exam Preparation - Definition of a Passive House, Requirements for components, Design principles, Thermal bridges and airtightness, Building energy calculations, Heating/cooling/ventilation/domestic hot water concepts, Economic calculations, Construction management and defects assessments, PHPP plausibility test.
