Framing a School’s Culture With an Early College High School Partnership Speaker:
Tina Herrington, Superintendent, Wharton ISD This session will highlight a district located in Wharton, Texas, that has successfully partnered with Wharton County Junior College to implement an Early College High School. The ROAR Academy is located 60 miles southeast of Houston and consists of 100 students. This model was implemented in 2014 and is preparing for the first graduates. Success stories shared by the students will inspire participants to frame their own campus cultures around college readiness.

This session is designed to share Fort Bend ISD’s approach to aligning the district’s governing documents with one another and to share the process the Vision and Planning committee engaged in while developing the Profile of a Graduate.

This section will use the symbolic tools of Wonder Woman to make connections strategies of self-leadership and self-development.

MicroSociety at KISD—Framing Children’s Educational World with Words and Work! The MicroSociety model’s philosophy states that if we expect children to one day run the world, we must provide them with a world to run! The expectations are 1) As each community does in real-life, each model should have its own uniqueness, and 2) MicroSociety allows KISD to continue providing 21st-century learning skills. This also gives students the opportunity to explore various career paths. The structure of MicroSociety begins with the Governance process. The students learn about different governments, and they get to vote as a student-body on what kind of government they would like their society to have. Then come the ventures, or businesses. Ventures will vary by campus, and they include Banking/Finance, Education, Media and Technology, Travel and Tourism, and many others. Because of the hands-on skills the students are using in their ventures, they are learning other skills, such as vocabulary, team work, leadership and time management. It takes learning beyond having to memorize a lesson in the classroom. MicroSociety also gives students the opportunity to look at different caree
