Community services is the largest industry in Tasmania, employing more than 10,000 workers from around the state in roles ranging from family support, maintenance and construction to home care, public education, allied health workers, strategic project managers and CEOs.
The Tasmanian Council of Social Service (TasCOSS) is the peak body for Tasmania’s community services industry. TasCOSS’s vision is of one Tasmania, which is free of poverty and inequality and where everyone has the same opportunity.
The community services industry is integral to Tasmania’s social and economic recovery from COVID-19. The vital services the industry provides through our paid workforce and volunteers have supported the wellbeing of all Tasmanians at some point in their lives. Not only is community services one of the fastest growth industries, but it is also the largest employer, contributing more to the state’s economy than any other industry.
The TasCOSS biennial conference is a key statewide event for the community services industry – bringing together around 140 visionary and strategic thinkers from across Tasmania’s diverse community services and beyond, from CEOs and Board members to direct practitioners and other professionals at the pointy end of some of our state’s most essential services. This year’s TasCOSS Conference will take a look back at the last 18 months which saw our industry flexibly adapt to support those most impacted by COVID-19 in our local communities. It is an opportunity for us to come together, reflect and explore how we as an industry can best support our communities to thrive into the future.
TasCOSS Conference 2021 will be held at Blundstone Arena, Bellerive, and will take place over two days on Tuesday, 2 November and Wednesday, 3 November 2021.
