WELCOME FROM THE HEAD OF SCHOOL Looking back over the past year and a half, we see how quickly our lives can change. Yet, in spite of earthquakes and a global pandemic, TASIS Dorado remains a leader in education, honoring each student as an individual, and inspiring all to see learning not as an achievement, but as a lifelong pursuit. We began the 2019-20 school year with a gala celebration to kick off our Wellness & Athletics Center Capital Campaign. On March 11, 2020, we held a forum for our community at which Board President Federico Stubbe, Jr. unveiled detailed plans for the Wellness Center and other campus projects. On the same day, the W.H.O. announced that COVID-19 was a pandemic that would affect the entire world. We all know what happened after that and I dare say we never imagined that we’d still be combatting the virus a year later! Distance learning and the lockdown have forced us all to learn new skills and strategies. We understand better than ever the importance of talented teachers and social relationships for our children. I am proud of the way our students and faculty pursue excellence. If we stay true to our mission, we will remain united as a community and develop the skills and good character that will enable us to contribute to the world beyond this community. We are passionate about learning at TASIS Dorado. Without education--without literature and science, without math and history and music and art, in summary, without learning, self-knowledge, and spiritual sensitivity--there is no kind of life worth living. Learning and relationships give quality and depth to life; I doubt there is much joy possible without them. In the pages that follow, you will find the names of many who have helped us take TASIS Dorado to the next level. Over the years, the support of our donors has expanded to meet the evolving needs of our school. Our donors give generously to support our curious, passionate students working with caring, dedicated teachers. This report on our progress is one small way of expressing our gratitude for those who have helped in a special way. Thank you. It is something we cannot say enough.

OUR MISSION

TASIS Dorado challenges and nurtures students to pursue academic and personal excellence so that they become engaged global citizens and innovative, selfless leaders.

OUR VISION

TASIS Dorado aspires to be a world-class school that transforms students’ lives through love of learning, beauty, truth, goodness and wisdom.

OUR VALUES

TASIS Dorado instills in its students the values of courage, kindness, integrity, humility and a commitment to building community.

Sincerely, Timothy Howard Head of School

Gala &Auction A L L VS T A R BENEFIT

SEPTEMBER 7, 2019 • LOUIS R. CHRISTIANSEN PERFORMING ARTS CENTER TO BENEFIT THE TASIS DORADO WELLNESS & ATHLETICS CENTER

FUNDS RAISED $394,120

To kick off the Capital Campaign for the Wellness & Athletics Center, TASIS Dorado hosted a spectacular All-Star Benefit Gala & Auction in early September 2019 complete with a live and silent auction, raffle, and musical performances by Puerto Rican salsa legend Gilberto Santa Rosa and his Orchestra, as well as La Super Banda. The Gala was an enormous success engaging over 350 TD community members and friends while raising $394,120 in support of the Wellness & Athletics Center. The Wellness & Athletics Center will provide state-of-theart facilities where our students can further develop their leadership skills and cultivate important life skills including discipline, teamwork, resilience, sportsmanship, and humility. It is a goal of the Wellness Program to have every graduate leave TASIS Dorado with a desire to lead a rewarding and active life.

TD IRONBEAR 30x30 Challenge surpasses fundraising goal and exceeds expectations 2020 brought a great deal of adversity not only for Puerto Rico, but across the globe. Starting in early January, a series of earthquakes rocked the southern part of the Island, but was shortly overshadowed by the global pandemic sending all of Puerto Rico into lockdown by mid-March. Schools were forced to educate from a distance through virtual learning programs, subsequently halting all traditional school activity, including our fundraising efforts. August brought a sense of renewed strength as we entered the 2020-21 school year with the reminder that the TD community is STRONG ALONE, but UNSTOPPABLE TOGETHER! With our fundraising efforts on hold since the start of the pandemic, it was time to both rethink and revitalize our fundraising strategy in a virtual world. Our students, faculty, staff, parents and the greater TD community were suffering from a decrease in both physical activity and social interactions making it clear that TD Bears were ready to come together -- virtually -- to be active, build school spirit, and make progress on our push towards the $3 million

fundraising goal. Ultimately, this led to the virtual TD IRONBEAR 30x30 Challenge, which invited our community to be active for 30 minutes a day for 30 days in an effort to improve, grow, and maintain our commitment to excellence despite unprecedented circumstances. Throughout the Challenge, we marveled as students, parents, grandparents, alumni, parents of alumni, faculty, staff, and friends of TASIS Dorado came together to reach personal fitness goals while raising funds in support of our Capital Campaign for the Wellness & Athletics Center. The IRONBEAR Challenge not only revitalized our fundraising efforts but also further solidified our commitment to being a world-class school that transforms lives. We are a resilient community that pushed forward for the sake of our mission. A heartfelt THANK YOU goes out to all who made the TD IRONBEAR 2020 a monumental success. We are grateful for your unwavering commitment and dedication which further proves we are UNSTOPPABLE Together.

STEAM FAB LAB PROJECT: 3D Printed Face Shields In support of the worldwide effort to provide Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to frontline workers during the COVID-19 pandemic, TASIS Dorado’s STEAM Fab Lab partnered with the University of Puerto Rico School of Architecture’s Fab Lab to produce face shields using 3D printers and clear plastic sheets. As a community, TASIS Dorado raised over $5,200 and produced more than 3,000 face shields for healthcare professionals, vulnerable patients, and other affected frontline workers.

TD Health Center Expansion During the summer of 2020, TASIS Dorado was the beneficiary of a generous $40,000 donation to support the expanded needs of the TD Health Center. This gift supported the addition of a second full-time Registered Nurse (RN) to address the increased workload imposed by the pandemic. In anticipation of reopening schools for in-person learning in the midst of the COVID-19 crisis, the school created a COVID-19 isolation room by repurposing space across campus from the main Health Center. To outfit the room, equipment was purchased to store necessary materials and medication. Additionally, furniture was added for the comfort of individuals presenting COVID-19 symptoms. And finally, a significant stock of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) was purchased to protect the health and safety of our personnel.

Bee Project

Led by the Bee Club, the Bee Project is an educational initiative that was established in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria when 50% of the Island’s bees and beehives were destroyed. Due to the generous donation of $10,000, the Bee Project is expected to install a small Bee Yard of 5 beehives at the Sabanera Farm. This project is in collaboration with Interamerican University and Dr. Bert Rivera, who will act as both project manager and mentor to TD students and the greater Dorado community. The Bee Project focuses on research, environmental education, and social entrepreneurship while supporting the Club’s main goals: • Understand and educate others on the importance of protecting honeybees for the benefit of our ecosystem • Contribute to scientific research by collaborating with established university-level programs • Develop a small business, known as the Bear Hive Honey Company, which supports social entrepreneurship and educates consumers about the importance of bees

BE A PART OF TD HISTORY! Purchase a Brick for the Bear Trail Establishing a Wellness & Athletics Center at TASIS Dorado has been a goal for many years. This new facility will lay the foundation for years of exciting competition and personal growth, while inviting our community to embrace and maintain a healthy lifestyle. The venue will feature a stateof-the-art gymnasium with A/C, a rock climbing wall, physical fitness facilities, courts for basketball, volleyball, and futsal, as well as a dedicated space for our Wellness Program. An upgrade of surrounding areas is also part of the greater plan with a revitalized soccer field with a turf surface, track & field facilities, and two new playgrounds. We invite our community members to lay the foundation for the main walkway leading to our new Wellness & Athletics Center by purchasing a customized brick for the TD Bear Trail. Bricks are personalized to your liking and strategically placed in the walkway to the main entrance of the Wellness & Athletics Center, cementing your place in TD history.

Bricks can be purchased by an individual or group (single or multiple families; a class, team, or club; a group of alumni, parents or teachers, etc.) and come in two sizes:

LARGE BRICK • $500

• 8” x 8” • 6 lines • 18 characters per line • 200 bricks available

for purchase

MEDIUM BRICK • $250 • 4” x 8” • 3 lines • 18 characters per line • 400 bricks available for purchase

With approximately $200,000 left to raise, our final goal of $3M is within reach, and with your help, we can take action on the next phase of TASIS Dorado’s Wellness & Athletics Center! For more information or to purchase a brick, please visit tasisdorado.com/support or contact: Gildren Bengoa Director of Institutional Advancement 787-796-0440 Ext. 222 advancement@tasisdorado.com
