This school year, we marked TASIS Dorado’s 20th Anniversary of its founding in 2002. This Report on Progress and Philanthropy also commemorates an exceptional year in school history as the challenges of the ongoing pandemic continued to disrupt education around the globe. Yet, it did not stop TASIS Dorado from returning to in-person learning and delivering a world-class education to our students. I am immensely proud of how the School’s faculty and staff gracefully engaged with students and parents every day despite the changes throughout the year, adapting to constantly shifting conditions and public guidelines. Thankfully, collaboration and community have been hallmarks of the School from its inception. the joyous evening was a welcomed success engaging over 100 community members while raising $515,000 to support TASIS Dorado’s overall fundraising goals.
TASIS Dorado’s supporters of $2,500 or more gathered on Friday, September 24, 2021, at the inaugural Celebration of Giving reception. The musical talents of our teachers, Joel Bracero, Jonathan Martínez, and Fabián Rivera, and students Kamalkali Toraño '22 and Miguel Baños '24 delighted guests at the start of the evening. Later, Deborah Monroe, Head of School, offered a gracious and heartfelt welcome to kickoff our formal program.
Federico Stubbe, Jr., President of the Board of Directors, highlighted upcoming building projects and future areas of support, including the TD HUB
and Wellness & Athletics Center. Betzaida García, Chair of Institutional Advancement, shared recent successes in fundraising efforts for the Capital Campaign for the Wellness & Athletics Center and outlined remaining targets for the project. To conclude the formal program, Gildren Bengoa, Director of Institutional Advancement, outlined future ways to get involved and support TASIS

EXCELLENCE IN TEACHING FUND
BEE TASISPROJECTDorado’sBee Project, led by the Bee Club, is an educational initiative focused on research, environmental education, and social entrepreneurship established after Hurricane Maria, when 50% of the Island’s bees and beehives were destroyed. In the first year, funding supported the Bee Club in its efforts to install a small bee yard at the Sabanera Farm. This year, the Bee Project received $15,000, which helped over 200 students maintain the bee yard, enhance product development of the Bee Club’s Bear Hive Honey Company, and support the educational efforts of the Club’s mentor beekeeper.
Each year, TASIS Dorado awards full tuition scholarships to deserving, young students. The recently endowed Maritere Matosantos Scholarship Fund supports the school’s efforts in offering an exceptional education in our Upper School program. This year, $167,000 was donated to support 11 students in their educational journey.
The Tim Howard Excellence in Teaching Fund received $45,500 in donations in its inaugural year. This restricted, endowed fund recognizes teachers who demonstrate instructional growth, expertise, creativity, and innovation. Drawing on its revenue, this fund will benefit exceptional educators and may be distributed as a monetary gift, funding for a passion project, or professional development. The school will focus on growing the investment through targeted fundraising efforts during the next five years. Once fully endowed, deserving TASIS Dorado teachers will be rewarded through a vetted process.

DESERVING PRIORITIES
Contributions to the TASIS Dorado Fund, our school’s annual fund, serve as unrestricted gifts that are critical to the success of our program and pave the way to meet institutional demands throughout the year. The fund received $92,000, which supports pressing needs beyond planned operations, making way for new opportunities, program expansion, and unexpected challenges.
Since I was a little girl, I dreamed of being a part of the Bear community, but TASIS Dorado was not something my family could afford. Today, I am so grateful for this opportunity because the possibilities are endless. I can focus on my studies, learn many languages, and one day become a surgeon. SINCE 2018, THE START OF THE CAPITAL CAMPAIGN, OUR DONORS HAVE RAISED $ 5,137,643
Under the guidance of a Director of Wellness, the center will enhance TASIS Dorado’s current Wellness Program with a curriculum focused on emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual balance. The culinary arts classroom will foster nutritional exploration and programming. School counselors’ offices will invite students to gather and converse in a safe and comfortable environment. Multipurpose spaces will facilitate active programs such as yoga, pilates, dance, self-defense, and boot camp.
Construction is well underway on the future Wellness & Athletics Center, set to open in fall 2023. Due to this year’s trends in increased construction costs and labor supply constraints, the Wellness & Athletics Center is now estimated at $8.5 million. Understanding the importance and value of this addition to the TD experience, our community remained committed to the project.
Students, and the larger community, will significantly benefit from this state-of-the-art facility where they can embrace a healthy lifestyle, develop leadership qualities, and cultivate essential life skills. The venue will feature an air-conditioned gymnasium, a Toro Verde-sponsored rock climbing wall, a fitness center, and basketball, volleyball, and indoor soccer courts. External improvements include new turf for soccer, track & field facilities, a beach volleyball court, and two playgrounds.
This new facility will lend itself to growing and improving our current TD Athletics program, including possibilities for pre-season workouts, year-round training, expansion of programs for our younger athletes, additional coaching staff, and unique physical education opportunities.

Unlike last year’s virtual format, the friendly competition brought IRONBEARS together for two in-person events. The in-school Kickoff, held on October 25, offered mini-challenges, giveaways, raffles, and the right amount of motivation to get our IRONBEARS moving. The TD community enjoyed the 5K & Fun Run Finale held on November 13 at Dorado Beach Resort to close out the Challenge.
Surpassing all participation, exercise, and fundraising goals, 409 IRONBEARS completed 92,314 minutes of exercise and raised $127,340 in just 20 days. It was a humbling and impressive experience to see what can be accomplished when our community bands together. A sincere thank you to all of our IRONBEARS, with special thanks to our student, parent, faculty, and staff volunteers, and recognition to our full event sponsors, the Powel Family, Patton Hope Foundation, and Dorado Beach Resort.
TASIS Dorado’s IRONBEAR 2.0 Challenge, held from October 25 to November 13, 2021, encouraged the community to build upon the momentum from 2020’s inaugural Challenge. A new two-story TD HUB student center, set to open in 2023, had its first phase opening in March 2022. Students were thrilled to experience the first floor’s renovated Dining Hall, which offers a reimagined culinary experience for breakfast, lunch, and snacks. The communal ambiance filled with an abundance of natural light is complemented by comfortable table seating and a flexible furniture layout encouraging students to gather, eat, and recharge.

These spaces, coupled with cutting-edge technology and equipment, will lend to
collaborative projects, professional development, broadcasting and media classes, eSports, music and video production, podcasts, vlogging, recordings, and virtual learning, serving as a portal to share TASIS to the World.
The second floor of the HUB will serve as home to the newly established Center for Innovation, Teaching & Learning (CITL or The Center as it will be called), which is a dynamic, collaborative environment that inspires the TASIS Dorado community to learn together, exchange ideas, and creatively problem-solve. The Center will enrich teaching and learning by encouraging meaningful interdisciplinary discussions and forward-thinking practices using specialized classrooms, studios, labs, study zones, group spaces, lounge areas, and a revitalized library.

of 2022 marked the Leadership Academy’s first trip to the Global Leadership Summit, which attracted more than 700 students from eight countries, 17 states, and Puerto Rico. Five students from our program were in the final eight teams of the summit’s design-thinking health and wellness product competition. To our delight, Ariana González Negrón ‘24 was a member of the winning team, and her team’s prototype will be displayed in the Nobel Prize Museum in Sweden.
DORADO LEADERSHIP ACADEMY
After a rigorous application process, TASIS Dorado is honored to join the Global Online Academy (GOA), which is an elite consortium of some of the highest-rated private schools in the world. Through this membership, TASIS Dorado will leverage a powerful global network of leading institutions and its collective resources to amplify passiondriven learning for our high school students through unique elective course offerings. Our teachers will also have opportunities to enrich their instructional practices with access to leading thinkers and innovative educators. Joining the GOA is a key step in bringing the world to TASIS Dorado and TASIS Dorado to the world.
This year, TASIS Dorado launched a customized Leadership Academy, a Stubbe family legacy program designed to elevate and refine the leadership qualities of selected students in their sophomore and junior years. During sophomore year, students identify strengths, recognize essential goals, and explore and apply design thinking, while establishing a foundation of leadership skills and self-awareness. In the summer between sophomore and junior years, students travel abroad to explore global issues while leveraging their acquired skills at the Global Leadership Summit in Berlin, Germany. Throughout junior year, students receive professional internship opportunities and focus on capstone projects using design-thinking to tackle real-world
