Mini TSO for Early Learners

AGES 3-5

Little Red Riding Hood

Welcome to the TSO 2019 Education Program. Our program motto is “Catering for Creativity: Supporting Composers from the Classroom to the Concert Hall”. TSO aims to provide a pathway of activities and teaching resources to help all children, from prep to grade 12, understand how music works, as well as supporting the development of future Australian composers, performers and conductors.

TSO musicians take to the road in 2019 with a brand new take on the classic folk tale Red Riding Hood. Written and composed by TSO violinist Alison Lazaroff-Somssich, Red Riding Hood introduces children to an instrument from each section of the orchestra in an engaging presentation.

We are excited to announce our first-ever animation competition, featuring the TSO recording of Gordon Hamilton’s engaging and thought-provoking work The Ugly Sound. 2019 also sees TSO musicians continuing to engage with the community outside of the concert hall and, as in the case of Red Riding Hood, creating an engaging, interactive presentation from scratch!

Little ones are able to see the different instruments, notice how the sounds are produced and hear the various colours of the orchestra. They also get to sing, clap and, for the very eager, try their hand at conducting! Conducted by the irrepressible Gary Wain and featuring vivacious Jane Longhurst as presenter, Mini TSO concerts are interactive, informative and loads of fun.
