An Appeal for Peace: DNIPRO EURO FOODS

ABOUT DNIPRO: Twenty-three years ago, a Ukrainian man decided to leave what today is known as Dnipro — formerly known as Dnipropetrovsk but renamed during the process of de-communization. Foreigners were not allowed to visit Dnipropetrovsk without official permission until the 1990s. So, this ex-pat decided to open DNIPRO EURO FOODS, in Latham, NY, nine years ago, to share his love and passion for Ukrainian food. DNIPRO imports its European artisan bread directly from Germany par-baked and frozen — and then finishes baking the bread on the premises — before displaying whole loaves for sale in its store — along with charcuterie and Eastern European groceries…

Before Russia invaded Ukraine, DNIPRO gave me a rare delicacy sample of cold-smoked Omul (Омуль) fish in jelly — Slavic people in the USA recognize a common Kievan Rus’ ancestry and culture… As the Capital Region is home to thousands of Ukrainian-Americans, the Ukrainian community came together in a unified effort to raise funds for the humanitarian needs of the refugees and the front line in Ukraine… This effort is led by the local Ukrainian Churches and the Capital District branch of the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America (UCCA). DNIPRO has been collecting non-perishable donations for refugees. Visit: 518ukrainians.com
