STRAIGHT FROM THE

Heart

S

Sharing Christ and loving people is at the heart of everything we do here at Joyce Meyer Ministries. I often say I want to help as many people as I possibly can in my lifetime. But I had to fight a battle in my flesh for awhile to get to this place. You see, I was such a mess inside; I simply couldn’t give what I didn’t have. I was selfish.

BLACK

The flesh is inherently selfish and self-centered. We want what we want; however, we may not be as quick to give it. But walking in love is the highest form of spiritual warfare. And one thing I have realized is the only way any of us can walk in love is to do it on purpose—so we have to declare war on selfishness.

Yellow

Magenta

CYAN

In order to fight selfishness and combat it with love, we have to know what love really is. I think many of us have the impression that it means to become a doormat and let people just walk all over us. But that’s not true…because to truly walk in love toward others, we must first love ourselves.

This may sound contradictory to declaring war on selfishness, but it’s not. When we get a revelation of God’s love for us, we can begin to love ourselves in a healthy and balanced way. We learn to value our lives…take care of ourselves…invest in our future. Then we are able to love our neighbors as we love ourselves (see Matthew 22:39), meaning, we will be more encouraging, patient, compassionate, helpful, and so on. In other words, when we have a good relationship with God and with ourselves, we will be able to build good relationships with the people around us. And we’ll have more freedom to reach out and help those God puts on our heart to help.

lk “To truly wa rd in love towa others, we ve must first lo ourselves.”

Like I said, I want to help as many people as I possibly can in my lifetime. I guess another way to put it is I am living to love…because God’s love is overflowing. Live to love!

TESTIMONY

Thankful for Jesus and Joyce Meyer Ministries

My wife and I started watching your program about eight years ago. Day after day, we noticed that your messages had been for our daily problems. I don’t know how to explain to you our story, and it would be more than 500 pages if I did. I just want you to know that we were Muslim. From May 2013, we changed and now we are Christian. Your testimony is ours also. Please know that you had this mission for us and now we are glad to have Jesus share every moment of our life. Now we have Jesus’ messages from your daily program and it is forever the most important part of our lives. Thank you so much and God bless you.

Thank Outside the Box LEARNING TO WALK IN THE SUPERNATURAL POWER OF GRATITUDE

FIRST THESSALONIANS 5:18 says, Thank [God] in everything [no matter what the circumstances may be, be thankful and give thanks], for this is the will of God for you [who are] in Christ Jesus….

Encouraging others is one of the greatest things we can do. Life can be difficult, and most people have plenty of reasons to feel discouraged. But we have been given a tremendous gift—the ability to encourage and uplift other people and make them feel good about themselves.

The Bible has a lot to say about “giving thanks.” In fact, it’s one of the most powerful things we can do! Why? Because a thankful person is focused on God…and all of the good things He does in our lives.

I challenge you to be a person of action. When someone has blessed your life, take a few moments to send a card or call them on the phone. Why? Because those few moments out of your schedule—that simple action—can completely transform their day!

CYAN

Now, I’m not a person who lacks confidence, but if I stopped receiving words of encouragement, it probably wouldn’t be long before I was fighting discouragement.

Magenta

Express Yourself — Let’s take another look at 1 Thessalonians 5:18. It says to “be thankful and give thanks.” I believe a lot of people are truly thankful for someone, yet they never take that next step and tell them.

I think many times we assume people know how we feel, or we think they don’t need to be encouraged. People frequently come up to me and say, “I know you hear this all the time, but your teaching has changed my life.”

Always remember: Whether it seems like it or not, everyone has a basic need to feel appreciated.

of employing many wonderful people at Joyce Meyer Ministries. And, without fail, we are always drawn to those who have great attitudes—employees who are happy, cheerful and grateful. In short, they are the employees that we refuse to do without!

Over time, God helped me understand an important principle: What we focus on has the ability to make us happy or miserable. We can either dwell on the negative things in life, or we can choose to magnify the good.

You see, when you walk through life with an “attitude of gratitude,” you make yourself indispensable because you add value everywhere you go. Giving thanks bestows favor and opens doors that otherwise wouldn’t be open. I believe this applies to our relationship with the Lord as well.

The old saying, “Count your blessings” is terrific advice. Regularly taking inventory of what God has done for us releases new faith, hope and joy. It also breathes new life into our circumstances and relationships.

Philippians 4:6 says, Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God (NIV).

BLACK

For example, I have watched God time and again heal troubled marriages. Usually, one or both of the partners make a decision to stop complaining and purposely focus on the good things about their spouse.

Maintaining a grateful heart is a vital part of prayer. I believe when we ask God for things with a thankful attitude, He delights in giving us more. Years ago, I would make my list and ask God for all the things I wanted…all the while complaining about the things I already had. I’ll never forget what the Lord spoke to my heart one day during my prayer time:

CYAN

Just imagine if everyone decided to regularly tell others everything they like about “Joyce, if you’re not thankful for what you have now, why should I give you more to complain about?” them. So many of our problems would be solved! You’re just trying to ignore that hungry feeling so you can shift your focus, ignore the pangs, and participate in class and learn.

Yellow

Such is the daily life of undernourished students in America.

In the same country where many children are struggling with childhood obesity, one out of five students are going to class hungry. And their numbers are increasing. Today, nearly 10 million kids get free or reduced price lunch during the school week. Another 10.6 million are eligible for these programs, but aren’t enrolled.* For a lot of kids, hunger begins at an early age.

Alexis Gavina is a Pre-K teacher in West Texas. There are twenty students in her classroom, and five of them depend on school lunch assistance. “Every one of our twelve classrooms typically has five or six children in need,” she says. “That adds up to a lot of hungry four year olds.” If you’re a seasoned teacher like Gavina, it’s not hard to spot a hungry kid.

What can you do to help alleviate the burden of childhood hunger? One way to help is to partner with Joyce Meyer Ministries. Our partners provide nutritious meals to hungry children every day! Partnering with Joyce Meyer Ministries, Hand of Hope allows you to do more than hand out a bag of groceries or a plate of food. It’s a golden opportunity to pour God’s love on families who need His love just as much as they need a helping hand. “When Jesus saw a need, He filled it. And He calls us to do the same,” says Gavina. “There are a lot of problems in this world, but we can help solve them if we all pitch in and do our part.” Anne Williams is a staff writer for Joyce Meyer Ministries. *No Kid Hungry (2013). ST. LOUIS, MO

Derek Johnson calls himself “Mr. Mom.” He’s a dedicated father who works as a security guard. And he counts on the St. Louis Dream Center, an outreach of Joyce Meyer Ministries, to help put food on the table at home. “You would think that if you’re working you wouldn’t need help feeding your family, but actually, I do,” says Johnson.

BLACK

“When I was a kid, I spent my days at Grandma’s house, playing,” says Gavina. “I never had to worry where my next meal was going to come from. These

kids just roll with the punches. But there are some things a four year old should not have to worry about.”

“You would think that if you’re working you wouldn’t need help feeding your family, but actually, I do,” says Johnson.

CYAN

Hunger affects school performance in a big way. Not only is a student’s ability to concentrate in class compromised, undernourished kids are more vulnerable to illness—and they are less likely to graduate high school, making it even more difficult to climb their way out of poverty.

St. Louis Dream Center

His children take part in the Dream Center’s after school meal program and the family receives groceries from its on-site food pantry.

Magenta

“Some of them will try to sneak home snacks that we provide at school,” she says. “When a child is hungry, you will notice that their weight fluctuates and they need to go to the bathroom a lot more often. They’re usually sleepy and it’s hard for them to pay attention.”

“It’s not just there for the homeless,” says Johnson. “It’s for anyone who needs help making ends meet.”

Elicia brought Charlie to us not because he was ill, but because she had been forced into it. The villagers in her town threatened to get rid of the baby if she didn’t. Babies like Charlie are viewed as cursed by a culture steeped in voodoo and witchcraft. In a desperate move to save Charlie’s life, Elicia made the heart-wrenching decision to bring him to us.

A Happy Beginning for Charlie Today, Charlie is in the United States being fitted for prosthetic limbs. His new mother, Vanessa, is the founder of Angel Mission (the organization that arranged Charlie’s travel out of Haiti). She and her husband are purchasing land in Haiti to build an orphanage for children like Charlie. This will be his new home. Elicia is pleased with how things have turned out for Charlie. And when he’s back in Haiti with his new family, Elicia will be able to visit him. A happy ending for the Hand of Hope Joyce Meyer Medical/Dental Outreach Team!

Only when the blankets fell away were we able to see that he was born without arms or legs.

ait here and keep the doors locked.” Even though it was daylight, the situation could turn dangerous at any minute. Men lurked in the doorways sharing glances with others nearby. We had invaded their territory and they weren’t happy about it. We were about to steal something they thought belonged to them…a young woman named Nardos.

Back at the home, Nardos joined several other young women who have experienced unbelievable pain and horrors of their own. But here, they are covered with the love and healing that only comes from a relationship with Jesus Christ. When a young woman enters the home, they are first allowed to rest as much as they need. Then they begin learning the Word and studying a trade so they can one day make a healthy living.

We would love for every young woman’s story to end perfectly, but unfortunately that is not the reality. When it comes to human trafficking there are so many layers of pain, deceit and bondage that many girls end up returning to the lifestyle. It’s been two years since Nardos was rescued and I wish I could say she was one of the success stories. Unfortunately, she left the program about a year ago and last we heard she had moved in with family. As far as we know, she hasn’t returned to the Red Light District. Please continue to pray for Nardos.

We had met Nardos earlier in the day at a medical outreach Joyce Meyer Ministries was holding for young women who lived in the Red Light District of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Most, if not all, who came for care, were prostitutes.

In partnership with International Crisis Aid, Hand of Hope sponsors two safe homes for girls rescued from human trafficking. It was through this partnership that we were able to bring a medical and dental team to the area. Nardos was one of the first women in line. As we waited in the van, a couple from the home helped her to her tiny room (approximately 4 x 6 feet), and she carefully placed everything she owned into a small duffle bag. An Unexpected Journey the miracle that happened while watching tv

BLACK CYAN

Her mother had watched Joyce on TV for years and would purchase many of the teachings for her unsaved daughter. Kimberly would graciously accept them and store them neatly away. Honestly, those teachings didn’t mean anything to Kimberly until that day on her mother’s couch. After several months and many programs later, she walked into a local church and gave her life to Jesus.

Kimberly has since listened to and watched all the teachings her mother faithfully bought for her over the years, plus many more. “They were a true blessing to me in the first years of my Christian walk. I listened to them daily— over and over again. I needed to hear those messages before work, during lunch, after work, before bed…to drown out the chaos that seemed to surround me. I still watch and am still blessed by this ministry.” As a partner with this ministry, you have helped reach millions like Kimberly around the world with the life-changing Gospel. On a daily basis, people are encountering the immeasurable love of God. They’re also being equipped to practically follow Christ in every area of their lives. Thank you so much for making this possible!

Magenta

As Kimberly “pretended” to watch, God began speaking to her heart little by little, and although she didn’t realize it, her journey to healing and a relationship with Christ had begun.

“I believe that Joyce’s messages began to chip away at ‘the ugliness’ just enough that my heart could receive the gift that was awaiting me in the church that day,” shares Kimberly.

THE LAST THING she wanted to do was watch Joyce’s TV program. But Kimberly’s life was completely spinning out of control. She was full of anger and feeling dejected and pitiful, so she reluctantly plopped down next to her mother on the couch.

Love is the most important commandment in the Bible. John 13:35 says, “By this shall all [men] know that you are My disciples, if you love one another….” Unfortunately, love is a word that many people don’t fully understand. We think we want somebody to love us, but really, what we need is someone to love.

“LOVING THE WAY GOD LOVES MEANS WE’RE WILLING TO LOVE OTHERS EVEN WHEN THERE’S NOTHING IN IT FOR US.” The Bible says that in the last days, people will be utterly self-centered and callous, lacking human affection (see 2 Timothy 3:1-3). To be callous means you can notice a need but not necessarily feel you should do anything about it. We might expect the world to behave that way, but as Christians, we really need to know how to put love into action.

BLACK

God’s formula for solving the world’s problems is to help us forget about our own. You see, even when we cannot help ourselves, God enables us to reach out and help others. God’s love will melt the coldest, hardest heart. Because God’s love isn’t just words or a theory—it is displayed through loving actions that can be seen and felt by others.

Loving the way God loves means we’re willing to love others even when there’s nothing in it for us. I know and can tell you from experience that it will soften people's hearts—the hardest people that you can imagine. If you watch my TV program, you’ve probably heard me talk about how my father sexually abused me for many years. My mother knew what was happening, but she was afraid of my dad and didn’t know how to stop him, so she just let it happen. You could say that I was both abused and abandoned by my parents.

I thought that I’d forgiven them, but as my parents were getting older, God began to put it on my heart to buy a house for them and take care of them until they died. Believe me, it was the last thing I wanted to do. I remember asking God, “Why should I? What did they ever do for me?” And this is what He said: You’re breathing, aren’t you? Well, I started looking for a cheap house and then God spoke to my heart again. He said, No. You’re going to buy them a nice house. I really hoped my husband, Dave,

would object and that would be my way out of it. But Dave just looked at me and said, “If you think this is God, then you had better obey.” Long story short, after three years of taking them grocery shopping and to doctor visits, and making sure their grass was cut and their bills were paid, my mom called me and said, “Your dad has been crying all morning and he wants you to come over. He wants to tell you something.”

That day, with tears in his eyes, my dad said, “I’m sorry for what I did to you when you were a kid.” He asked Dave and me to pray for him, and he received Christ. Ten days later, he was baptized.

The point of that story is this: God wants us to be good to people who haven’t done anything for us because love is powerful, and it can change a heart. Here’s my point: We can think it’s okay to stay mad at people who hurt us, but God commands us to forgive. And when we do, we put ourselves in a position to receive incredible blessings from Him!

What Are You Thinking?!

O

Seriously…Your Thoughts Matter More Than You May Realize

One of the greatest revelations I’ve had in my life is that I can choose my thoughts. It sounds simple, yet many people don’t really think about what they’re thinking about much of the time, and it causes a lot of problems.

CYAN

BLACK

Proverbs 23:7 says, For as he thinks in his heart, so is he. This means that our thoughts are important because they determine what kind of life we will have. I like to say it like this, “Where the mind goes, the man follows.”

The good news is, you can choose your thoughts on purpose, and your mind doesn’t have to be a garbage dump for the devil. You can purposely think about things the Bible says you should think about so you can have the good life Jesus died to give you.

Set Your Mind and Keep It Set

Magenta Yellow

Now, I’m not talking about humanism and the idea that you can just think about whatever you want and make it happen. But the fact is God is faithful to everything His Word says. When we get into agreement and think on His promises, our lives will be blessed. That’s why 2 Corinthians 10:5 tells us to lead every thought and purpose away captive into the obedience of Christ…. See, if you think about something long enough, it will affect your attitude, as well as the words that come out of your mouth. For example, if someone has hurt you and you dwell on what they’ve done, going over and over it in your mind, there is a good chance that when you see them, you won’t treat them very well.

Colossians 3:2 says, Set your minds and keep them set on what is above (the higher things), not on the things that are on the earth. We all experience

various temptations, and the way to have victory over them is to think ahead of time about how we will respond to them. Because there’s not much hope of successfully resisting a temptation if you wait until you’re in the midst of the situation to decide what you will do. At that point, your emotions are stirred up and fighting your will to do the right thing. If there is a specific area you have trouble with, think about how you want to handle the temptation it brings before you face that situation. You may need to decide….

• “I’m not going to overeat at dinnertime.”

• “I’m not going to look at pornography on the Internet.”

• “I’m not going to gossip when I’m spending time with my friends.”

• “I’m not going to spend more than I have budgeted for shopping.”

If you think this way ahead of time, you’ll find it’s easier to make the right decision when a temptation comes your way.

Renew Your Mind Along with setting our minds on right things, we also need to renew our minds. Romans 12:2 says, …Be transformed (changed) by the [entire] renewal of your mind…so that you may prove [for yourselves] what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God….

NEW! Power Thoughts

Renewing your mind is a continual process. You can’t expect to be a victorious Christian if you don’t spend time studying the Word of God on an ongoing basis. This means we need to make a commitment to study God’s Word consistently and think about the things it tells us to think about on purpose. One good scripture to start with is Philippians 4:8, which says to think about things that are true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent and praiseworthy (NIV).

It takes time to grow in your relationship with Christ and renew your mind to think like God thinks. I want to encourage you to be determined to press on, one day at a time, in your decision to spend time with God in prayer and by studying the Word. Focus on Jesus and the progress you are making, by God’s grace, little by little each day. And resist any condemnation that comes against you with thoughts about how far you have to go.

God loves you and He’s pleased with you as a new creation in Christ. So you can confidently think and say, “Because of Jesus, I have right standing with God, my sins are forgiven, I’m okay and I’m on my way!”

Your Personal Power Thoughts

On this page, we always try to give you the opportunity to make God’s Word personal for you; because even though God speaks to us as a body, He also guides us as individuals, according to His purpose and plan for our lives. Listed here are a few of the “power thoughts” from Joyce’s book by the same name. Choose one or two that resonate with you. Write down your thoughts. Expand on how the power thought(s) applies to your life. What is God speaking to your heart specifically? What changes are you making or experiencing? God loves me unconditionally. I pursue peace with God, myself, and others. I live in the present and enjoy each moment. I can do whatever I need to do in life through Christ.

…Fill your minds with those things that are good and that deserve praise: things that are true, noble, right, pure, lovely, and honorable. –Philippians 4:8 GNT

Is America a Republic or Democracy? Our FounderS’ Plan to Establish the True Source of Government Authority

by DAVE MEYER

More than 235 years ago, the United States of America declared its freedom and established a government “of the people, by the people, and for the people.” Our Founding Fathers laid the groundwork for a system of law that was revolutionary in its own right.

Although many people—including several government officials—believe we are a democracy, the United States of America is in fact a republic.

It’s a Matter of Law— Both of these terms are so commonly used that it may be difficult to separate their meanings. In short, a republic is a government ruled by law, and a democracy is a government ruled by the people.

In an absolute democracy, the entire population votes on every issue and the outcome is decided by the majority. Thus, whatever prevailing opinion sweeps through the majority of the people will become the law of the land. Our Founding Fathers understandably called this a “mob-ocracy.”

Magenta

Is the United States of America a Republic or Democracy?

CYAN

A democracy is completely different. This form of government allows the people to change the laws anytime they want. Therefore, as the people change, the laws change.

A Firm Foundation— In the years since the Declaration of Independence, other nations have attempted to adopt our form of government.

Americans continue to celebrate this remarkable achievement today. However, somewhere along the line, a few misconceptions have surfaced. After all of these years, this question commonly arises:

BLACK

This means we are self-governed, but self-governed under the law. In other words, we elect representatives to represent us according to our law— the Constitution. They don’t represent us the way they want to, and the people don’t change the laws. In a republic, the laws remain the same, and they are upheld by the people in charge.

best “Other nations have attempted to adopt our form of government. However, few have enjoyed success because they overlooked the very foundation of our Constitution—God.” However, few have enjoyed much success because they overlooked the very foundation of our Constitution—God. Our government was founded on the authority of the Bible and Christian principles. The Founders knew that the people’s knowledge of these values was critical. If these principles were ever lost, then our foundation would be destroyed. This is the reason they set up a republican form of government instead of a democracy: They did it to establish the source of government’s authority. A republic ensures that these laws based on godly principles will not be changed by the prevailing opinion of the day.

Back to Basics

Original Intent Paperback by David Barton

We continue to reap the rewards of this decision. The freedoms we enjoy do not rest on the whims of an everchanging majority opinion, but on the God-inspired documents we call the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence. I like how David Barton put it in his book, Original Intent. He says: “Consider the stability this provides: in our republic, murder will always be a crime, for it is always a crime according to the Word of God. However, in a democracy, if the majority of the people decide that that murder is no longer a crime, murder will no longer be a crime. The transcendent values of Biblical natural law were the foundation of the American republic.” 1 Guardians of History— Now, many consider a republic to be the highest

form of government devised by man. However, it also requires the greatest amount of human care and maintenance. Why? If neglected, a republic can deteriorate into a variety of “lesser” forms… • A democracy— a government conducted by popular feeling • Anarchy— a system in which each person determines his own rules and standards • Oligarchy— a government run by a small council or a group of elite individuals • Dictatorship— a government run by a single individual When examining laws and regulations, this is why we should ask questions like, “Is this consistent with our form of government?” and “Is the information supporting this policy based upon the Constitution…or is it the product of revisionism?”2 Our Founding Fathers gave us a tremendous gift. They established the laws of our land based on the solid foundation of God’s Word…then chose a form of government to safeguard these laws in the future. I encourage you to take an interest and get educated. Reading books like Original Intent, America’s Providential History and others we feature will make you a powerful advocate for the godly principles of our Constitution. They will help you protect this republic for which we stand—“one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.” 1. I can honestly say I’m thankful for those small beginnings. It was then that my faith was strengthened and I learned to lean on God for our every need. And I don’t think that’s a bad place for people to start, but you don’t have to stay there your whole life.

CYAN

The Bible teaches us that everything in creation belongs to God (see Psalm 50:7 and 9-12). He simply allows us the great privilege of caring for it. And one of the best ways we can do that is to not be wasteful.

Pass the Tests — Shortly after God called me into ministry, He asked me to quit my job so I could focus on studying His Word. And for six years we had to have a miracle every single month to be able to pay our bills. I remember going to garage sales with maybe $10 or $15, praying for God to help me find basic things we needed, like shoes for the kids.

Magenta

Steward vs. Owner — First, we need to realize we don’t really own what we have; everything is a gift from God. We call ourselves stewards, but sometimes we have the tendency to act like the owner; however, a steward is someone who manages property for someone else.

God’s wisdom and do what is right in His eyes. We are not only accountable to our partners, we are also accountable to God. And I want to be able to say we used everything God gave us to the best of our ability.

Yellow

there are approximately 2,000 verses in the Bible about money, and it’s important for us to have a balanced view of what God has to say about managing our money. God has taught me so many lessons over the years about finances, and I want to share a couple of them with you to help you reach your goal to live in financial freedom.

But God also doesn’t care about all those things. What He does care about is people who are hurting and in desperate need of relief. And the great part is we get the privilege of partnering with Him to meet those needs, bringing that relief and sharing the love of Christ along the way. Hurricane Sandy happened just over a year ago, and many families are still in the process of rebuilding. They’re moving from home to home, hotel to hotel, waiting for “normal” to return to their lives. And that’s why Hand of Hope has partnered with The Legacy Center out of Queens,Madagascar New York, (Unretouched) to help rebuild 11 homes that were severely damaged in the storm.

Kimberly’s Unwavering Faith—One of those homes was for a single mother named Kimberly and her 14-year-old son, Ezron. Kim is one of those ladies whose faith is undeniable. Although she’s had her rough moments along the way, she has maintained the belief that God would show up, and that He hadn’t abandoned her when she had to abandon her destroyed condo in Rockaway Beach, Queens. And God has shown up in countless ways. Her son has an asthmatic condition and God provided a temporary home that would cater to her son’s medical needs. He has sent money when she couldn’t afford to buy any food. He sent Hand of Hope and The Legacy Center into her life to provide a completely renovated condo, down to the very furniture she secretly had her eye on. And He has answered prayer after unending prayer for comfort and strengthened faith. We were able to witness the joyous moment when they saw their home again for the first time. Tears Madagascar Sri Lanka of joy flowed as KimUK took a moment in her new (Retouched) bedroom to praise God for who He is and all He has done to provide for her and her son.

Ezron says the time after the storm was so hard and has left him often feeling numb. He can do anything and I have no doubt about that!” Reaching People with the Love of Christ — Kim and Ezron are one of 11 families who received help with their homes, thanks to the friends and partners of Joyce Meyer Ministries and Hand of Hope and our partnership with The Legacy Center in Queens.

A Tornado Hits Moore, Oklahoma — Even in midst of the rebuilding process after Hurricane Sandy, Oklahoma City experienced their own pain after their community was hit with one of the worst tornadoes in recent history. Our first visit to the Oklahoma City area, just days after the storm, was exceptionally difficult and a tremendous blessing simultaneously. Wherever we went, there was not a dry eye…from homeowners searching through the debris to volunteers helping with the recovery process to grown men who thought they had seen it all. But these tears brought people together...united to help. Hand of Hope, Joyce Meyer Ministries World Missions and our dedicated friends and partners are always ready to lend a helping hand. Partnering with other ministries such as Church of the Harvest, Service International, Cooking for Christ, Victory Church, Gleaning for the World, and The 99, we saw vital progress even in the early days following the disaster and continuing over the following months. Reaching the Forgotten — In addition to the work being done in Moore, there were many people in surrounding communities who’d also endured devastation. With the massive amount of work needed in Moore, places like Shawnee has received little to no help, but our partner Service International wanted to make sure they received all the help they need.

In Shawnee we met Shirley, who owns Grandma Had It Antiques. Her home and 30-year-old business sits on 10 acres, and she says before the storm she couldn’t see the sky because of the massive amount of trees on her property. The storm took nearly all of the trees with it and left her warehouse of antiques smashed under the debris. The cleanup of the trees would have cost a small fortune…money she simply didn’t have. But thanks to your support, we were able to come and help clean up her property and help her begin to see a future for the family business.

Trey Perry, Director of Service International reminds us that this work is all about bringing glory to God. “It restores their hope in humanity. It’s our hope that it also restores their hope in God.”

“I just didn’t know there were so many people out there who cared. It’s been overwhelming,” shares Shirley.
