DEFINITION OF EDUCATION

Grade 7? O Level? A Level? Bachelor's? Master's? PhD?


DEFINITION OF EDUCATION • Our ideas of education take too narrow and too low a range. There is need of a broader scope, a higher aim. True education means more than the perusal of a certain course of study. It means more than a preparation for the life that now is. It has to do with the whole being, and with the whole period of existence possible to man. It is the harmonious development of the physical, the mental, and the spiritual powers. It prepares the student for the joy of service in this world and for the higher joy of wider service in the world to come. – {Ed 13.1}


Goal of Education


• The truly human society is a learning society, where grandparents, parents, and children are students together.�


• “The central task of education is to implant a will and facility for learning; it should produce not learned but learning people.


Purpose of education The only purpose of education is to teach a student how to live his life by developing his mind and equipping him to deal with reality

TRANSFORMATION

nd do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the newing of your mind. (Romans 12:2 NKJV)

What then Transformation means: A marked permanent inside/ out change, as in appearance or character, usually for the better.


HUMAN BEINGS/HUMAN DOINGS

•God created HUMAN BEINGS not HUMAN DOINGS –- Spiritual –- Mental –- Physical –- Social

•JESUS grew in wisdom [mental] and stature[physical] and in favour with God [spiritual] and men[social] Luke2:52


LIFELONG LEARNING • - From the womb to eternity • - Home • - School • -Church • - Community • - Mother child's first teacher (least prepared for this responsibility • - Both Mother and Father responsible for the child’s education and should receive training for the sacred responsibility


LIFELONG LEARNING • Such an education provides more than mental discipline; it provides more than physical training. It strengthens the character, so that truth and uprightness are not sacrificed to selfish desire or worldly ambition. It fortifies the mind against evil. Instead of some master passion becoming a power to destroy, every motive and desire are brought into conformity to the great principles of right. As the perfection of His character is dwelt upon, the mind is renewed, and the soul is re-created in the image of God. – {Ed 18.1}


TRUE AND HONEST MAN •

The greatest want of the world is the want of men– men who will not be bought or sold, – men who in their inmost souls are true and honest – men who do not fear to call sin by its right name – men whose conscience is as true to duty as the needle to the pole – men who will stand for the right though the heavens fall. – {Ed 57.3}

But such a character is not the result of accident; it is not due to special favors or endowments of Providence. A noble character is the result of self-discipline, of the subjection of the lower to the higher nature—the surrender of self for the service of love to God and man. – {Ed 57.4}


HUMILITY - Moses Moses was a very humble man, more humble than anyone else on the face of the earth. (Numbers 12:3)  Teach ability




Think about such things • Finally, brothers, whatsoever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable - if anything is excellent or praiseworthy – think about such things • Philippians 4:8

Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy (Exodus 20:8-11) • God is creator • Work is divinely institute • Careers begin with loyalty to God • One who does not work should not eat (2Thes 3:10) • Gardening the first job • Holistic look at work (mental, physical, social, and spiritual • Lifelong learning in response to CHANGE • Emotional and psychological preparation for work


The Importance of Work • Stewardship • Life • Tithe • Food and Shelter • Money not the purpose of work


Seek First the Kingdom of God (Matthew 6:33) • Make God your career partner • Sets you apart from peers and gives you awesome advantage over your peers • Have GOALS beginning with the end in mind and results based


Holistic Education • Mental, Social, Physical and Spiritual • Human beings before Human doings • Values emphasis • Broad based Education to deal with CHANGE • Innovation or Resourcefulness


Remember your creator in the days of your youth (Ecclesiastes 12:1)


The greatest should be the servant of all (Matthew 20:25) • Career of service • Jesus came to serve not to be served.


New heaven and new earth will need builders and farmers ( Isaiah 65:17-25)

• Prepare skills now to use in the new world • Build houses and inhabit them • Plant vineyards and eat of them


Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might(Ecc. 9:10 ; 2 Tim 2:15 )

• Excellence and no mediocrity • Not “just getting by” mentality • A workman that needs not to be ashamed


Look at the example of the ANTS ( Proverbs 6:6-11)

• Diligence and self starter • Commitment and organisation


We are all accountable to God ( Rom. 14:12)

• Work as to the Lord (Ephe 6:5-9, Col 3:22-24) • Discover hidden talents


Workman that needs not to be ashamed/ Models (2 Tim 2:15)

A Hedgehog Concept is not a goal to be the best, a strategy to be the best, an intention to be the best, a plan to be the best. It is an understanding of what you can be the best at.
