TAURANGA GIRLS’ COLLEGE

April 2016

Tauranga Girls’ College

Message from the Principal Dear Parents Term 1 is nearly over and what a very busy, very productive term it has been! And with Summer Tournament week under way in Week 10 and our Parent /Teacher evening coming up for parents of junior students in Week 11 there is still much to do, and to share, with our community. Congratulations to all students who have achieved personal goals in these first weeks of 2016 in whatever dimension of the college they have been involved in. For the Parent/Teacher Evening the on-line booking system for appointments is open and parents are encouraged to take the opportunity for a face to face discussion with teachers. Our learning environment is at its best when there is a three way partnership of support between parent, student and teacher all focussed on the best outcomes. Term 1: positive, successful, establishing a culture of involvement and healthy

competition, has been ably led by our senior student office holders, prefects and house captains, giving everyone the opportunity to explore and participate. InterHouse competition has been fierce, via all of our whole school athletic events, lunchtime competitions and challenges and the leader board in the hall for the House Shield has changed positions on a regular basis all through the term. Term 1 also sees a significant change in our senior leadership and there is a very special acknowledgement to be made of a staff member who has been with us for nearly thirty years and whose leadership and contribution to our college has been exemplary. As Mrs Leonie Summerville finishes her role as Deputy Principal with us I thank her on behalf of staff, students and the wider community of Tauranga Girls’ College for everything she has done to ensure the success and

wellbeing of everyone here. Leonie has involved herself tirelessly with every aspect of the college, in and out of the classroom and her wisdom, energy and dedication have been much appreciated and will be greatly missed. I wish everyone a restful, restorative and relaxing term break as we look forward to being back into the busyness of Term 2 on Monday 02 May, fit and ready to pick up all the opportunities here on the journey towards “empowering tomorrow’s women”.
