TAURANGA GIRLS’ COLLEGE
April 2017
Tauranga Girls’ College Pauline Cowens Principal
Message from the Principal Dear Parents, One more week of Term One remains after this current one is over and we are still in very busy, very productive mode as we approach the April holiday break. Our Year 13 Ball is on the second Saturday of Term Two after the holidays and our iconic PTA Fashion Parade also comes up very early in Term Two on May 17 and 18. This is the PTA major fundraiser for the year and I recommend early purchase of tickets when they go on sale, to ensure that you can enjoy the event and support the PTA. Thank you to all Year 9 parents (well in excess of two thirds of you) who took the time to support your daughters and to meet with tutors on our first ever Te Ara Ako (learning journey) day. Coming up next week we have the next parent/ teacher contact point, our Year 10 report evening. Our on-line booking system is available for appointments to book a face to face learning discussion on your daughter’s progress and our learning environment is at its best when there is a three way partnership of support between parent, student and teacher. Year 11 to 13 students have also received their first report for the year and while there are no formal meeting times arranged for these
levels until later in the year, their progress is very important to us and individual appointments and contact can be made with teachers, Deans or Deputy Principals where there is anything that needs to be discussed. Outside of the classroom there has been so much happening and congratulations to all participants in Summer Tournament week in and around Week Eight. There were some hard fought battles and, as always, our girls were ranked at the top of their chosen sports. Particular congratulations this year go to our medalling rowers in Maadi Cup and to our cricketers, once again Northern Districts Cricket champions and off to Nationals in Term Three. Balance in life is essential and after such a full-on term I wish everyone a restful, restorative and relaxing term break as we look forward to being back into the busyness of Term Two on 01 May, fit and ready to pick up again on all the opportunities here that make up the journey towards “empowering tomorrow’s women” . Farewell to Chrissy Brooks Whaea Chrissy Brooks, HOD Te Reo Māori leaves us at the end of this term to take up the role of Senior Language Adviser at the Māori Language Commission. On behalf of everyone at Tauranga Girls’ College,
staff, students and wider community congratulations to Whaea Chrissy on her appointment as we acknowledge the outstanding contribution she has
made over many years to our school. We wish her all the best in her new career.
