December 2014

Dear Parents / Caregivers The last newsletter for 2014! The year has gone very quickly for me, particularly with a term out researching future learning approaches in successful schools here and overseas. It seems hardly any time at all since we returned to school in February to our usual outstanding results in NCEA and scholarship and picked up the challenge for another year of empowering tomorrow’s women. For much of the year we have been in the process of building remediation, including the transformation of our library into a modern learning space and the revamp of our administration building. Students and staff have coped well with all the changes and we are heading into 2015 well on track to see the campus wide reforms completed by mid-2016. To finish 2014 however, there are still some highlights to share, including activity days, year level concerts and the junior school prize giving celebrations for Year 9 and 10 . We invite all parents and whanau who have the time available to join us in those celebrations on 8 December for Year 9 and 9 December for Year 10.

Any learning community is only as effective as every member of it who takes responsibility for their own and others learning experiences. Sincere thanks to all who have contributed to the outcomes for 2014, and to all parents and caregivers for your role in the partnership between school and home. Thank you also to our talented and dedicated staff who have taken every opportunity to ensure that students succeed, something that has definitely happened in a variety of settings in 2014. On behalf of Tauranga Girls’ College I wish all of you a well-deserved, safe restorative time over this upcoming holiday break as we look forward to 2014 and the opportunity to again continue our journey of “empowering tomorrow’s women”
