WELCOME

TO THE 2009 TAVISTOCK CUP

It started as a locker room conversation about who might win a tournament if they played each other. As the roster of golf professional members deepened at Isleworth Golf & Country Club and Lake Nona Golf & Country Club, so did the burning desire to answer that question. Now celebrating its sixth year, the Tavistock Cup has returned to Lake Nona to bring together these crosstown rivals in the ultimate showdown to determine the World Golf and Country Club Champion. After exploring the idea of this team competition with a few players, the tournament was embraced by all, and in 2004 the Tavistock Cup began. Team Isleworth claimed the inaugural Tavistock Cup in 2004 at Lake Nona Golf & Country Club. Isleworth hosted the Tavistock Cup matches for the next two years. Following a sudden-death play-off that resulted in a tie in 2005, Team Isleworth was victorious again in 2006. Team Lake Nona’s home course advantage helped clinch its first Tavistock Cup victory in 2007. Last year, Tavistock Cup rookie J.B. Holmes helped lead Team Isleworth to its third victory. The Tavistock Cup is played for pride and bragging rights, but above all, charity. The tournament has donated millions of dollars to many worthy organizations across the globe over the past five years. In 2009, the Tavistock Cup through the Tavistock Foundation will once again donate $1 million on behalf of the players on the winning team to the charities of their choice. We would like to thank Tavistock Cup’s contestants, sponsors, volunteers, staff and spectators for making this event such an incredible success year after year.

We hope you enjoy the tournament.

THE PAYNE STEWART SALVER AWARD

The Payne Stewart Salver Award, a commemorative award that honors the legacy of late golf icon Payne Stewart, is presented each year to the Tavistock Cup’s Round 2 low medalist. The Tavistock Cup established the award in memory of Stewart, who was an Isleworth member and resident and one of the most memorable golfers of all time. Stewart, who won three major championships and claimed more than 20 worldwide victories, was a crowd favorite partly because of his singular sense of style on the course, which included tam o’shanter caps and patterned knickers. His real legacy, though, comes from his unwavering love for the game and the respect he had for his fellow competitors. Team Isleworth members have claimed the Payne Stewart Salver Award every year since the Tavistock Cup’s inception in 2004 at Lake Nona. Stuart Appleby won the inaugural award after he finished 6-under-par with a score of 66. Tiger Woods became a three-time consecutive winner of the Payne Stewart Salver Award from 2005-2007. In 2005, he took home medalist honors by firing a 6-under-par round of 66. In 2006, Woods took home the award again after shooting a 7-under-par (65). Woods earned his most recent Payne Stewart Salver in 2007 after sinking seven birdies in a row and finishing 8-under-par (64). J.B. Holmes became the first Tavistock Cup rookie to clinch the award in 2008 with a score of 4-under-par (68) on a day that Isleworth’s course proved extremely difficult.

Rituals Revealed Some successes on the green come through an incredible stroke of luck. It’s no surprise golfers rely on lucky charms to help guide them to victory. Whether they call them superstitions or tendencies, golfers have adopted a variety of practices to keep their game on course. Find out how Isleworth and Lake Nona’s members attempt to control their destiny off the tee.

I just try to make my tee time. -J.B. Holmes

I always start with five tees in my pocket. -Nick O’Hern

At the 2008 Masters, I made Trevor peanut butter sandwiches before his Thursday and Friday rounds and thought nothing of it. By Saturday and Sunday, Trev’s caddy was looking for me to get the sandwiches ASAP before he teed off. -Carminita Immelman

-Ryan Longwell Isleworth member & NFL player

When preparing for tournaments, I always alternate my irons. I warm up with evens one day and odds the next. -Mark O’Meara

After I push my golf cart out of the garage (it doesn’t have reverse), I check to make sure I have pipes, matches, golf balls and my wallet, since I expect to lose to the Lake Nona Bandits. -Lou Holtz Lake Nona member & sports commentator

My superstition is not to abide by superstitions because I’m afraid of bad luck. -Stuart Appleby

My first and by far most important pre-round ritual is asking the family for permission to play!

I believe there is only one birdie in every ball. After it achieves that, I leave it in my bag. -Ernie Els

I always start the first round with a No. 4 ball and work my way down, playing the final round with a No. 1. -Retief Goosen

I don’t have any superstitions ... I just always mark my ball heads up. And I never use No. 3 balls. -Ian Poulter

MY WORDS

One of the most colorful golf TV personalities, CBS golf analyst David Feherty has plenty to say about the 2009 Tavistock Cup. Here’s the on-course reporter and golf analyst’s take on this year’s tournament. “We just saw probably the greatest Ryder Cup of all time … I think the European Team played better than any European Team … r a that has ever played, but they still ye s i h e t lost. You know, there were a bunch rag rty them d n i of the Lake Nona guys there.” pa ly be

2009 PREDICTIONS: WINNING TEAM

“I think it’s time … the time has come. The key will be the ability to chill and consume alcohol. LAKE NONA wins big!”

LOW MEDALIST

“I hope it’s someone that Payne would approve of. I always like to think of him looking down on these things. A great friend of mine, and one of the greatest, I’m thinking Darren Clarke…”

LONG DRIVE

“I don’t think Tiger will be able to jump at it. So if anybody gets it past J.B. Holmes, we’ll need some urine.”

Ernie Els: “The big friendly giant.”

Justin Rose: “The next Faldo … ”

Henrik Stenson: “One of those players who, up until a couple of years ago, people would think, ‘Who the Henrik is Stenson?’ I mean, you know, one heck of a player.”

Graeme McDowell: “Graeme McDowell is an Ulstermen … Graeme McDowell is following in Darren Clarke’s footsteps … which are fairly large. He has quite the torch to carry.”

Trevor Immelman: “Oh boy, Trevor Immelman, geez, he’s one of those guys … I would like to be Trevor Immelman.” Ben Curtis: “Ben Curtis gets no respect … he is the Rodney Dangerfield of golf.” Ian Poulter: “Ian Poulter is beautiful. He is beautiful. If he were a man, he would actually be even more beautiful. His hair looks like the U.S. Open rough.”

Retief Goosen: “If he really is there, people won’t notice. He actually can assume the characteristics of a gecko. He will blend into the scenery, where if he stands still long enough, the grass will actually mate with his shoes.” Chris DiMarco: “Chris DiMarco is one of the finest athletes … despite the fact that he is a Florida Gator. He has come back from an injury that most people don’t know about.” Mark McNulty: “Mark McNulty gets more out of his game than any one player I’ve ever seen.”

DEEP THOUGHTS ON PLAYERS

OF THE CUP Mark O’Meara: “Mark is the elder statesman of the team. Did I mention two MAJORS?” Tiger Woods: “The Golden Gimp.” Robert Allenby: “The walking 1-iron. The best Australian player nobody knows much about. He’s a funny guy … not right in the head.” Stuart Appleby: “The Australian player everybody knows about. Whatever is on his mind, you can actually see it through his hair – he just has no filter. Don’t ask a question, unless you want the answer.” J.B. Holmes: “J.B. Holmes is a freak of nature. That boy is from Kentucky, and there is some stallion in him.”

Nick O’Hern: “Nick O’Hern is a left-handed Australian … who you know … in Australia is almost like being … well … I can’t say it.” Daniel Chopra: “Daniel Chopra is one of those guys who has reinvented himself several times.” Charles Howell III: “Charles Howell III … I want to know about the other two, to be honest with you. You know, is there a fourth?” Darren Clarke: “Most popular player to play on the European Tour since Sam Torrence.” John Cook: John Cook could easily be considered the most enjoyable guy to spend time with out on tour; too bad he’s a Buckeye. A LBANY O

pening in 2010, Albany has attracted families from across the globe to this luxury resort community nestled among 565 oceanfront acres on the southwestern end of New Providence in The Bahamas. Albany is a unique collaboration and partnership between Tavistock Group, Tiger Woods and Ernie Els. Celebrating the very best in island living, Albany will provide some of the finest amenities ever assembled in a resort community—including a mega-yacht marina for vessels up to 240 feet, an 18-hole championship golf course designed by Ernie Els, a beach club, a family water park and a state-of-the-art spa and fitness center. One of the things that makes Albany truly distinctive are the people who have come together to create it: Tavistock Group and golf icons Tiger Woods and Ernie Els.

“Albany has been designed to deliver something for everyone,” said Christopher Anand, Albany’s managing director. “The community has an array of amenities that appeal to every member of the family, and families have responded to this unique offering.” The resort community, which broke ground in 2008, is teeming with construction on an assortment of world-class amenities and its initial hotel residences. The 71-slip mega-yacht marina has capped several major construction milestones. The sheet piling installation for the marina is complete, and the channel excavation process will conclude in mid-May. Installation of the state-of-the-art floating concrete dock system begins in September.

With rough grading complete and its irrigation system installed, Albany’s golf course is beginning to take shape. Grassing begins in May and grow-in is slated to finish in December 2009. Albany’s course, which features four sets of tees measuring more than 7,400 yards from the back tees, will offer one of the purest golf experiences with fairways free of residential development. “It’s an opportunity to create an instant classic that will be challenging for all levels of play,” Els said. “It will be demanding, but very enjoyable to play. Given the family nature of Albany, the teaching facilities and programmes at the club will be exceptional.” Substantial construction has been completed on the Albany Cottages, the first 40 residences that form the cornerstone of Albany’s luxury boutique hotel. Comprising three to five bedrooms, the cottages are inspired by traditional Bahamian architecture and offer charming outdoor living spaces, including private pools and gardens. Renovations on The Albany Beach Club, a 20-year-old beachside mansion that overlooks the ocean, began in February. Once complete, the beach club will feature an elegant dining room and second-floor ultra lounge. A nearby family restaurant currently under construction will provide an ideal place for families to gather for breakfast, lunch, casual dinners and special events. CONTINUED ON PAGE 83

A PERFECT PAIRING

Q& A

A mainstay at the Golf Channel and a staple of the Tavistock Cup, Rich Lerner has anchored the annual tournament since its 2004 inception. For more than a decade, Lerner has been seen conducting player interviews, delivering signature essays and providing play-by-play commentary for golf’s major championships, the Ryder Cup and the Solheim Cup. Lerner, who brought a number of in-depth specials to the Golf Channel, was honored with a Women’s Sports Foundation Journalism Award and landed a Cable Ace Award. The veteran golf analyst also received The Hands of Peace Award for his continuing efforts to curb violence against women and children in Orlando. Lerner, his wife, Robin, and their two sons, Jesse and Jack, call Orlando home.

How many days are you typically on the road during a year? 160

Best tournament finish you have witnessed? Tiger and Rocco at the 2008 U.S. Open

Hardest part of your job? Travel

Favorite tournament to broadcast from? The British Open in the wind and rain. It’s like another planet.

Carmel, California, for the views and the vibe Favorite restaurant “hot spot?” Alan Wong’s in Honolulu for an outrageously tasty Pan-Asian experience Best hotel you have ever stayed in? La Mamounia in Marrakesh, Morocco, regarded as one of the most romantic hotels in the world. Too bad I was on assignment with my 225-pound cameraman, Mike McGarry, and not my wife. Pacific Dunes, Augusta National, Pine Valley, Pebble Beach and The National

Retirement plans? Sitting in a cheap folding chair swapping stories at a driving range, just like the one my Dad operated in Pennsylvania. Your handicap? 5

The golf’s been excellent, the winners are the best in the sport, but it still hasn’t delivered that last gasp, the last Sunday punch that it should … Thoughts on Feherty and McCord? Dysfunctional, occasionally delusional, but damn it, they’re fun to be around, especially when Feherty asks you to pull his finger. Interests outside of golf? Love to play and watch basketball, and politics – just watching, not playing.

Who’s going to win the Tavistock Cup in 2009? Isleworth. With Tiger they’d be tough, without him they’d fight like the Americans did at the Ryder Cup. Medalist will be Tiger. Long drive will be J.B. Holmes. The J.B. stands for Just Bombs it. Who’s going to win the four majors in 2009? Tiger, Tiger, Camillo Villegas and Phil Mickelson Surprise story of 2009? The return of Davis Love III to the upper echelon

ISLEWORTH COLLEGIATE INVITATIONAL

2008 TEAM CHAMPIONS UNIVERSITY OF GEORGIA BULLDOGS

Each year, the most elite teams in college golf battle for the most coveted title on their schedules at one of the world’s most renowned venues. Since 2004, Isleworth Golf & Country Club has served as the stage for the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational while its resident golf professionals look on as spectators for the three-day event. Five years ago, Tavistock Group teamed up with local organizations to create the best event in collegiate golf by giving players and coaches the feel of a PGA Tour event. The tournament literally draws a who’s who of the best college golf programs in the country. Georgia, Oklahoma State, UCLA, USC, Georgia Tech, Stanford, Arizona, Arizona State, South Carolina, Wake Forest and Florida all make the trip to Isleworth each fall. The University of Georgia competed at Isleworth in the inaugural ICI and has dominated ever since. In late October, the Bulldogs continued their winning streak by claiming their fourth Isleworth Collegiate Invitational title in the event’s five-year history. Following a cold and windy day at Isleworth, the Bulldogs cruised to victory firing an 8-over-par (296) to finish the tournament at 3-over-par (867). The University of Alabama finished second with a score of 20-over-par (884), 17 shots behind Georgia. Indiana placed third at 22-over-par (886), two shots ahead of Texas Tech University who took home fourth at 24-over-par (888). Team victories aside, Georgia has snatched up just as many individual titles since the tournament’s inception. Beginning this year, Texas Tech University will be the new host school for the event, which will be renamed the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational hosted by Texas Tech. The 2009 tournament will return to Isleworth Golf & Country Club Oct. 25-27. “We are honored to welcome Texas Tech University as our host school,” said Andy Odenbach, vice president of sports ventures for Tavistock Group. “Our goal in partnering with Texas Tech is to ensure that the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational is the finest collegiate event in the country.”

ISLEWORTH

GOLF & COUNTRY CLUB Each spring, Isleworth Golf & Country Club and Lake Nona Golf & Country Club vie for a significant distinction – World Golf and Country Club Champion. But one distinction they don’t have to contend for is the elite reputation the sister clubs already share. Both have carved a niche as two of the most exclusive and luxurious golf communities in the United States. Surrounded by picturesque lakes, anchored by championship golf courses and outfitted with a myriad of luxury amenities, Isleworth and Lake Nona are both a home base of choice for famous athletes, entertainers, business leaders and golf’s top players. Isleworth, situated on 600 acres in southwest Orlando along the Butler Chain of Lakes, boasts more than seven miles of shoreline and an abundance of lush landscaping. The only thing more notable than Isleworth’s natural setting is its collection of estate homes, ranging from $3 million to more than $20 million, all featuring breathtaking floor plans and innovative design.

While Isleworth features plenty of first-rate amenities, the community’s jewel is its illustrious 18-hole championship golf course. Conceived and designed by Arnold Palmer and Ed Seay, Isleworth’s golf course is consistently ranked the longest and most difficult in the state. Isleworth’s golf course is complemented by a five-floor, 89,000-square-foot Mediterranean-style clubhouse that features a formal ballroom, full-service locker rooms, golf shop, formal and casual dining venues and a state-of-the-art men’s grill with plasma televisions, an indoor half basketball court, golf simulator and putting green. Beyond the links, Isleworth offers an impressive lineup of amenities and services including a pool, tennis facilities, a year-round children’s program and summer kids’ camp, a full-service fitness center and spa, 24-hour security and concierge services. Isleworth’s natural setting lends the perfect backdrop for the one-of-a-kind collection of monumental sculptures displayed throughout the property, with some available for private sale.

LAKE NONA MEDICAL CITY

Burnham Institute for Medical Research at Lake Nona

UCF College of Medicine Burnett Biomedical Science Building, Home to M. D. Anderson Orlando Cancer Research Institute

The vision for the Lake Nona community revolves around a simple idea – bring the best minds together to plan, develop and build an ideal place that fosters growth, cares for nature, spurs ideas and fuels imagination. And with that vision, its 7,000 pristine acres in the heart of Florida are quickly transforming into a vibrant and thriving community with world-class schools, diverse workspaces, retail centers, parks and residential options. The growing community has been home to a flurry of construction recently, as its hospitals and research buildings rise, and its new roads, parks and schools begin to open. And it is now seeing new scientists, students, teachers, doctors and residents making Lake Nona their home.

Lake Nona Medical City Construction

“Over the next 10 years, 30,000 new jobs and $7.6 billion economic impact to Florida.”

Lake Nona’s emerging medical city has been critical to its success. This 600-acre science and technology park will be home to hospitals, universities, research institutions and life science companies. Anchored by UCF’s new College of Medicine, the Burnham Institute for Medical Research, a VA Medical Center, the M. D. Anderson Orlando Cancer Research Institute and Nemours Children’s Hospital, the medical city has already become the epicenter of health and biomedical research in the region. It has also diversified the Orlando economy in a very meaningful way, with a projected $7.6 billion positive economic impact over the next 10 years. In April, the Burnham Institute for Medical Research at Lake Nona will complete construction of its 175,000-square-foot laboratory. This facility is the largest LEED-certified building in Central Florida and will provide Burnham’s nationally recognized scientists with the most advanced technologies to enable their research into diabetes, obesity, metabolism and heart disease. Within the next 10 years, Burnham will employ more than 300 scientists and staff at its Lake Nona campus. UCF received national headlines recently for an innovative full scholarship program for its inaugural class of students. Dr. Deborah German, Dean of the UCF College of Medicine, led an unprecedented effort that raised more than $7 million in donations, which will provide each of its students a full scholarship to the medical school. More than 4,300 students applied to the UCF College of Medicine last year, making it one of the deepest applicant pools in the nation. For this extraordinary achievement, Dr. German was named Central Floridian of the Year by the Orlando Sentinel. Construction activity at the college site remains brisk, with the 198,000-square-foot Burnett Biomedical Science Building nearing completion. In the spring, researchers and students will move into the facility with M. D. Anderson-Orlando occupying the top floor sometime in the summer. The UCF College of Medicine’s instruction building just topped out its vertical construction and will be ready for classes in the fall of 2010. Last October, the Department of Veterans Affairs broke ground on their 67-acre campus at Lake Nona. Florida Governor Charlie Crist and Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary James B. Peake turned the first dirt at the groundbreaking ceremony signaling that work will soon begin on the $656 million facility. The hospital is slated to open in early 2013. This cutting-edge hospital and outpatient facility will see more than 3,000 patients every day.

BURNHAM UPDATE

Burnham Medical Center, Exterior Digital Rendering

Burnham Institute for Medical Research is dedicated to revealing the fundamental causes of disease and devising the innovative therapies of tomorrow. Burnham is a not-for-profit, bi-coastal institute and ranks among the top 25 organizations worldwide for its research impact. The scientific programs at Burnham at Lake Nona are led by Daniel Kelly, M. D. Anderson-Orlando, scientific director and professor. During the past year, Dr. Kelly has recruited established researchers from across the United States to become “pioneer scientists” who will help create a unique research environment within the medical city at Lake Nona. Burnham is one of four NIH national comprehensive centers for chemical biology and drug discovery in the nation, having received a six-year $98 million NIH grant to establish a small-molecule screening and discovery center. With almost half of the funds directed to Florida, Burnham at Lake Nona will house the nation’s most advanced robotic ultra-high throughput chemical screening system, capable of screening more than two million chemical compounds per day. The cutting-edge technology platforms at the new institute will enable Burnham researchers in Florida and California to move discovery research forward more quickly. The technology centers are also available as a resource for other institutions.

Also officially breaking ground at Lake Nona is the nearly $400 million Nemours Children’s Hospital. The campus will consist of a children’s hospital, clinic, emergency department, diagnostic and ambulatory programs, along with education and research centers. Nemours enlisted the internationally recognized design firm IDEO to collaborate on the facility’s world-class design. The hospital is scheduled to open in 2012. Lake Nona is growing beyond the health and life science sectors as well. Construction is nearing completion on the new $80 million Lake Nona High School. Although the school won’t begin classes until the fall, it is University of Florida Medical Research Center Digital Rendering

already gaining recognition for its innovative and challenging curriculum. In partnership with Valencia Community College, the school is developing a Collegiate Academy that will provide high school students an opportunity to take college classes right on campus. But even with so much development underway or in the planning stages, Lake Nona already has the look and feel of a well-established community. One finds homes in all price ranges and styles – from apartments, to townhomes, to single-family homes, to custom lakefront estate homes. There are lakes, ponds and canals spread throughout a landscape that will be interconnected by 44 miles of walking and jogging trails, offering unparalleled amenities for Lake Nona’s projected 25,000 residents. At the center of the community, the planned Lake Nona Town Center will open in the coming years. This upscale, open-air lifestyle center will be home to department stores, large-scale retail, fashion boutiques, restaurants, entertainment options and movie theaters.

“For its length, toughness and the quality of the course, I would call Isleworth Florida’s Augusta.”

– Robert Allenby

“My wife’s already claimed the car. I have the keys, but not for long.” – J.B. Holmes

J.B. Holmes won the 2008 Payne Stewart Salver Award, Cadil ac Closest to the Pin and Old Mutual Long Drive Challenge.
