This thesis explores the impact of vegetation application to building envelopes – specifically, green roofs and green façade—on building thermal load and urban heat island effect within the context of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Two case study buildings in densely populated, Phu Nhuan District, are the focus of this thesis. This study demonstrates that green roofs and green façades can decrease building thermal load by impacting cooling load with building thermal load calculations. However, factors such as building design, vegetation scale, and solar radiation intensity affect the effectiveness of these green applications.
In addition to building thermal load calculations, this thesis investigates the wider potential of green roofs and green facades in mitigating the urban heat island effect in rapidly urbanizing cities, such as Ho Chi Minh City. The results of urban weather generation suggest that while green roofs and green façades can reduce urban temperatures, small-scale applications are insufficient for comprehensive UHI mitigation.
By offering empirical data, this thesis contributes and highlights the importance sustainable urban planning. It emphasizes the critical role of building-specific vegetation applications in improving building energy efficiency, managing urban heat island effect and enhancing envrionemental sustainabiliy in rapidly urbanizing cities.

People identify themselves with their professions, ethnicities, sexual orientations . But unlike last decades these days people have started to identify themselves with where they live ( not where they were born ) like the cities and neighborhoods. Since citizens realised they influence/ are influenced by their neighbors and these influences became a part of their identities. For instance nowadays being New Yorker, Londoner, Syneysider, Parisien, Berliner, Moscovites, Tokyojin brings an image to our minds. However, Istanbul - with a population of 15 million- has been having some troubles to create an identity. Kadikoy 2.0 questions ”is it possible to create an identity, if so how to create the identity in Istanbul. Throughout the history Taksim Square and Beyoglu area have been the exciting area for the youngs but at the same time it has been always targeted for speculations by politicians. After Gezi Park Protests (2013) people got desperate about Taksim so Istanbullu* people looked for somewhere else to sustain Istanbul’s subcultre.
Could Kadikoy be an option?

“An ordinary day in Erenköy Rehab, everybody gathered around the table and excited. The cork board has laid and wooden pions are prepared for the game. More than twenty people are checking over the board game; some of them have a cold feet, some of them never hesitate to touch pieces. This is the game that has been played every saturday since last year in Erenköy Rehab. The game has been played to manifest different opinion and negotiate about reconstruction of Erenköy Training and Research Hospital for Psychiatry and Neurological Diseases. It is an interesting game to play because the winner changes every time when you play and hard to predict the winner while playing. It helps to create a community and Erenköy Training and Research Hospital for Psychiatry and Neurological Diseases has started to construct according to discussions that has been going on the game.

In the masterplan scenario, at any moment of T40 ( 40 years from now ), the city life is in rush of Istanbul and also other nearby cities, to work. Ths creates an atmoshpere where there is no time or no place to take a peaceful breath. Air isalways suffocating and life is always in rush. Even education has changed from being a theoratical learning system from fully training curriculum to raise students for different industry lines. A monorail line that covers the city connects each production and industrial centers and provides a faster transportation line for workers. Thus, they may work in maximum effort with minimum loss of time. The monorail has three floors in which one floor is organized to human transportation. The last green area in Bandirma is the only thing that reminds the old city. So, it is very precious for habitants and works like a natural social place.
